Ground Combat incentives?

Ive noticed a trend in the last few expantions that there is very little ground combat focused content anymore ,its like they doing it but only the bare minimum,I know ground isnt very popular and I dont understand exactly why ,personally I find it just as fun as space combat only its a lot more challeging,it cant possibly be something like its too hard cos nothings fun without a challege. Maybe a change like 50% more marks than space for a ground mission would make some give it a second chance, dunno Whats everyones opinion on this?

There was a resurgence of ground combat in the previous season - we had a fantastic new ground queue which rarely ever pops because of Cryptic's dumb idea of requiring 10 players on two totally separate teams, which adds nothing whatsoever to the queue.

The colony sim was a good addition and actually gave players a reason to spend time at the holding. Arena of Sompek has been getting regular rotation every couple of months.

Space has always been the money-maker in this game, ground is more of an afterthought.

It doesn't help when we have some people rail AGAINST ground content on the "virtue" of this "being Star Trek", therefor "Less ground, more space because STAR TREK".

Which is a rather shallow argument considering all the stuff that was done on planets. It wasn't all just starships.

I do agree with what u saying ,it shows when you look at how refined space combat is compared to ground .

At least STO's ground game is lightyears better than Champions. Tried that once... actually missed STO's controls.

It would be nice to see some devotion to it,fix some animations ,changes some mechanics maybe. Ground dual pistols needs a revamp they look nice but no one uses them in combat, also running with two guns in your hands arms flailing looks comical. Also more different effects with secondary fire ,the adapted maxo pulseware is still one of the most unique weapons cos of its grenade launcher ,it sets it apart from a lot of cloned effects just changing the colour palette. I know its hard for devs to do this stuff as its a lot of work to implement but maybe one day ..

I suck at ground combat, but I wouldn't rail against it. Everyone has their preferred method of play and it isn't any more right or wrong than anyone else's.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

Well, one of the newer episodes pumped out the Kligat Powervibe 5000 weapon(Leck's Throwing Knives), but Cryptic has a lot of holdovers from an old game they used to run, with some abilities/powers that lock you in place while they activate. Melee is a pretty bad offender at this, inflicting a self-root when you use a bat'leth or the new polearm. Swords and the Furiadon's Fangs weapons gained a mini-gap closer, but you see a lot of flaws come to light when the enemies scatter like roaches as you chase them to attempt a combo. And sometimes the combos don't fire off right for one reason or another. A lot of the ground combat feels really clunky, or was infested with bugs(Voth battlezone) because something was broke when a new patch rolled out.

yeah, Cryptic should have a computer just to rebuild navmeshes 24/7 and pumping them on live servers.

Let me earn ship mastery when on the ground. That would help. I got ships to master and time on the ground doesn't help that.

Ground combat has been promoted by cryptic quite a bit, just left out of the latest reputation.

    Ground holds:

    - Better payout compared to most space maps of similar timeframe
    - Easier access for players since there is far less “right” gear to select & unlock. (DPS bandwidth is like 5K on ground while it is some 350k in space)
    - General easier difficulty setting
    - Much better stage design and more interesting secondary tasks (while in space the respective designer cant seem to comprehend beyond “do X for y minutes”)

I really think in PVE, ground is actually doing better than space. In popularity it only can not compete to roflstomp advanced and normal maps like ISA/CCA/RAs

Because in reward, nothing can. Not as long as everything rewards the same thing.

Except admiralty, of course, but that's hardly comparable.

It does seem like its getting decent attention content wise ,just need some overall polish in places . There is a bug i reported in the bug section quite some time ago that when u use a skill while armed you weapon disserpears and u go into an unarmed state, worst part been when u rearm you crew dont sometimes, this kind of thing can put people off playing ground giving a false sense of ground been not as popular as it should be.

The Gamma Reputation also has some of the best ground rep gear in a long time, especially for tactical. The tac ground kit has a nice team bonus which will be very good in Sompek. The three piece gives a 10% damage bonus for each team member, and a resistance bonus. Seems like a worthy set that will finally rival the Omega.

Champions combat is ok, it's just held back by TERRIBLE TERRIBLE enemy design, EVERY enemy group knockspams and CC spams like hurq or worse.

He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.

Ground combat isn't great but its not that bad either.

What ground suffers from is how awful the boffs are even when trying to nurse them point by point through doorways. Pretty sure cryptic could put out a totally flat, empty map and the boffs would still struggle to walk from point a to point b.

The main differences between space and ground combat here. You can't through your wallet at ground combat. That, and the good ground combats require teamwork. Assault on Terrok Nor, Miner Instabilities, Dranuur Beach Assault, Brotherhood of teh Sword come to mind here.

Space just requires mindless flying in circles and High DPS. I feel more like a vulture circling a corpse here, than I do a fighter of any kind.

But, yes, ground could use some work. The mechanics of it are bit clunky, as it has been for the past eight years. A bit of optimization wouldn't hurt either.

No, not true. I've done some work in the foundry. The blank map is actually safe from this. But, there is an old post down in the foundry about boffs. I created it, mainly about doors. A dev showed what they had to work with, its not pretty, and there isn't a whole lot they can do about it. Boff's don't actually have a set pathing, they follow you, and that's about it. Everything else is a spiderweb of WTF.

The two best things that ever existed in this game IMO are ground based. Dyson Ground Battlezone and Defera ground.

The problem with creating more awesome areas like this are that they do not help to sell c-store ships or master keys. Space content helps to sell both successfully, therefore, ground is not a priority in their eyes.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

So.. this is why, when it comes to Battlezones, or ground stuff. You can find more people doing Defera, Dyson, Nukara, and New Romulus, than you can the space ones?

Space is boring, all super dps pew. The mechanic of Sinister Gathering and Final Assault is a welcome break from this. But space is nothing more than vultures circling a dead horse.

But that's me. I'm the weird on that enjoys the more mechanics oriented queues and such. The whole Derps Per Second genre that we have. Meh, boring and useless, which is why I don't participate in queues often.
