Wouldn't it be nice if every hangar pet would get a playable small craft version?

Just, you know, because. Since small craft are severely underused, have no unique equipment and are basically just copies of each other they only have some sort of space barbie / sentimental value. and I'd love to use one of my hangar pets as a shuttle now and then, for example a Tellarite shuttle or a epoch fighter.

Sorry to say, but the small craft will probably remain an underused and underdeveloped side-branch of the game. The investment-to-reward ratio is most likely way better for the big ships, so that's what the devs will be focusing on, because it brings them the most $$$.

For some time now, I've wanted owning hangar pets to unlock skins for a generic small craft shuttle/fighter.

The other thing that would be nice is to have some small craft with a 1-fore-1-aft configuration, which would open up the small craft to several other builds and space-sets. This wouldn't even require adding new craft, but maybe roundabouts could be modified this way. After all, those were the ships that laid down the self-replicating mines around DS9.

I agree. Runabouts are really in another weight class as regular shuttles. For instance, they should be able to take a few stray shots from a star ship which a shuttle really can't. They were designed to be heavy lifters and I imagined them being able to also slot a few heavier weapons with the right mission pod (for instance a torpedo launcher which other shuttles aren't supposed to have).

I would like to see a whole array of "-S" gear for shuttles and some thought put into their layouts. The playable "small craft" should range from type-8 shuttles to Captain's yachts and maybe even a saucer module. One can dream.

My KDF Tac uses her Voth Heavy Fighter from when she flew her Voth Bastion Flight Deck Cruiser, but it would be nice if more pets were flyable.

    More options would be better!
Especially when KDF have so few options for small craft in Admiralty compared to Feds and Fed-Romulans.

Would be nice but probably not very useful.
Shuttles barely serve any function outside of card games and unless they completely overhaul the shuttle mechanics and everything else I really don't have any reason to buy a new c-store or lobi shuttle.
Not gonna lie though, an epoch fighter shuttle would probably make me spend my stipend.
