Why cant I cycle camera distance closer to see my ship in more detail PS4

Just installed and played several story missions on PS4, I am very impressed with the game and the overall presentation but am baffled by the annoying decision not to have the ability to cycle my camera closer to see my ship. PC owners can do this so why cant I. I would have readily purchased a range of ships, but am reticent to do so when you cant really see them up close ( especially the smaller ships). Seems like a minor gripe but is becoming really frustrating. Having been out for a couple of years now, I very much doubt this will be fixed which baffles me even more when finances can be gained from a simple ( I assume?? ) update.

Closest on PS4 has always been just off the back bumper, 3rd person starfox kind of distance which is probably the reason I actually quite like escorts on console.

If you want to see the ship in detail you have to find a light background such as in the dyson sphere map.

Hmm, can't say I've heard anyone complaining about not being able to get closer before. If you're looking for glamour shots you could try butting up to something like another ship or a space station. The camera doesn't like clipping so will get closer to you, but it's transitory so be fast with the capture button. Personally my problem is not being able to get farther away... some ships just take up the whole bloody screen, it's annoying. And on ground it's impossible to rip the camera off the back of your head... equally as annoying!

Sorry If I did not make myself clear. I am aware how to cycle through all the camera distances available in ship mode, its just the closest is not close enough when you want to see the ship you have just purchased. Its held back from closer inspection several distances more than the PC version. As Ive said this really baffles me, as the overall aesthetic and general design of the game clearly has a lot of thought gone into it.

No worries. It's probably something that the Dev's felt was not necessary, but mainly due the PC's issue of the camera not remaining at the same fixed point for each ship when switching maps etc. It is a major pain on the PC, but the issue doesn't occur on the consoles.

Thanks for responding, I guess it makes sense if there is some camera issues on PC. Im still really enjoying the game so far look forward to progressing through the story missions.

You can do this already! Just hold X I believe and cycle camera distance.
