A ship I'd always wanted in this game was an end-game level Ambassador as Andrew Probert originally designed her. Due to time and cost constraints the story goes, the version we see in the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" was settled on but the original concept was a beauty; a sleek design mid-way between the Excelsior and Galaxy. Does anyone know why it never happened even as an alternate skin? Did anyone at Cryptic ever mention the why of it?
It would make an awesome Miracle Worker T6 now I think.

Yes it was, and I'm 100% positive there was a Dev blog stating the Guardian was the Ambassador's 'upgrade'. Also, apart from the glaringly obvious visual simularities, the stats are practically identical. I have the ALL version of the Ambassador, and the Guardian, and she is, in my view the T6 Ambassador. And yes, I realise you can't use the Ambassador parts, but I'm sure it's a technical thing that a Dev might sort in his spare time.
Needless to say, Dev's have stated that there is no plans to upgrade any more non-T6 designs, as posted in a couple other posts.
Also, if one reads through the descriptions in-game, ships like the Norway and Steamrunner were mentioned as upgraded into the Akira/Alita family of designs.
Because it can't use Ambassador parts. That's their gripe with it.

I like it, it's a nice take on the Probert design
