^^^ What he said... They were toying with the idea when they rolled out the PvEvP content and Competitive Reputation, I think, so that players wouldn't wind up in situations where they got vaped during the PvP part of the mission, but they never really implemented it as much as could potentially be applied to all queues...

son Sphere stuff came out, Cryptic has been focusing on enemies with special mechanics, rather then just increasing numbers.
I see then you really didn't play the DR expansion content because bumping up HP to insane levels across the board on the higher difficulty setting WAS pretty much all they did to make the encounters "more challenging".

With the groups I'm around, that's close to an annoyance I've heard before. Most sets in the game simply suck, whether it be due to the set bonuses just being bad or having never been buffed to adjust to competitive options released afterwards.
As one of those that will pop in and insta-vape stuff in PvE queues, it's an issue of there not being enough active high end players to run elite queues, and there not being elites for queues that we like. Many of us still like those old borg queues because we don't have to deal with the timegate stuff most newer queues rely on. Our performance matters and impacts the speed at which we get our reward.
I wish the balance pass would've went over sets more, would really like to see some more viable options out there.
I'm not directing this at you Azrael but the problem is the same people whining about op'd players and builds will still be whining if those op'd players were removed from PvE, but the whining would be about the game being to hard because those whiners have poor builds not strong enough to run the difficulty level they have chosen.
I get you with the set mix and matches thou
I point to Delta Rising and the PvE queue population decline and S13's rebalance and the PvE queue population decline (although the UI Introduced didn't help matters) as examples of what happens when the game is made harder.
Pretty good points here. I think if they would start making elite versions of the missing PvE maps things would even out a bit in advanced as well.

The statistical increases were long overdue minimal balance changes, not even high enough to really match the players of the time, much less now.
What little challenge DR gave us came from the fail conditions...while they lasted.

I did play it actually, a lot. DR is some of my favorite content in the game.
And I can easily say, that while enemy HP number did get higher due to the level cap increase, most of what made the enemies in DR harder was their new powers/tactics, not the HP boosts. Many people were well beyond DR enemy HP numbers long before DR even came out.
What tactics exactly? All the enemy ships in the game act pretty much the same except for their one or two unique powers.
Except getting more than ONE Instance these days is tough enough.
