some assets are not rendering

just installed STO and logged in after many years and am having some issues. all characters are hairless when the camera is close to them, there are also doors and other objects that are completely missing. Im' linking to a video I recorded that shows the problems.

    I get similar effects, however I know that in my case it has to do with my graphics settings which are set quite low just to be able to play. If I turn the settings up the video "glitches" go away but the game will crash within minutes, if not seconds.

    I've got the graphics set pretty high for playing, and I cranked everything to max to see if it goes away, but nope. When I started playing STO years ago I had a pretty weak laptop and was able to play with the settings dialed back and the only problem I had was everything was blury.

    This isn't on Linux, is it?
