I hope not. If the level cap went up yet again, or there was some more TRIBBLE to have to grind, I'd probably just stop playing.
Lateral/horizontal progression is the way to go. People demanding for level 70, mk 16 or whatever weapons, tier 7 or 6-u ships are just bored. That itself is an issue but not one you'll solve with a week of grinding a number that ruins the game further.
Im guessing you're joking, but i actually think this is the way to go. No increase to level cap or item levels, but some kind of tweak to existing ships.
What this would look like? I dunno. Maybe using a ship upgrade token lets you rearrange boff seating (as suggested above). Maybe you can add an extra weapon, console or hangar slot? Im guessing stuff like this would be pretty cheap to implement.
New specialisations would be a good way to keep investing in our characters... I love the idea of the 3 classes becoming specs... Maybe add a security and medical spec.
My absolute favorite idea is the ability to form a squadron using my other existing ships in order to solo queud reputation content. We could assign Boffs to captain other ships in the squad. This would be very much like the episode where Picard assigns Riker and Data to command ships in a task force to combat Sela and the Roms.
I think this would be enough to keep me interested. A few other things might be being able to upgrade my Boff rarity with an item, removing faction limits for low tier ships.

Pretty much i couldnt help myself poking a little fun at the whole T5U debocle during DR lol

Your mention of a security spec just makes me think MACO.
As you can see, level 45 and 55 are half-levels, so you don't even need new rank names to expand the available levels. You can also see that there are more level brackets than tiers, so again, nothing new needed.
By bumping the 5 level ranks to full 10 level ranks, ranks could go up to level 80 using the existing rank names.
If each rank name is a 10 level bracket, the game could support up to Tier 9 ships.
Although I am a fan of the rank Commodore, which would be far more appropriate for our 'senior captain' PCs than Fleet Admiral, the game appears to have been built with the potential to expand built in.

I would not be shocked to see an increase in gear level. The real problem with that is quality level. So for gear already at gold it would be no problem at all to raise. However once at 14 and not gold it would be prohibitive to increase quality if the gear level cap is increased. What you'd have is people making endless level 2 gear going for gold. And you'd never be able to get fleet/rep gear past dark purple etc..
T7? I don't know. Never say never. I would have said the temporal futury ships could have been T7 but they're only T6 and have been covered.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Have to take into account if the game will live that long to see a T7, with all the recent decision making over at Cryptic, I believe the population took quite a hit. Also, it is a very old engine.
To be honest I rather not see T7 and higher levels - I rather see more quality content and perhaps another mini-faction. Let us hope for the longevity of STO. Personally I rather see another company pick up the ip and release Star Trek Online 2.
I think additional player "races" would be interesting. Playable mercenary/pirate for example? Existing races all allowable, but when you pick your "faction" it is only through the storyline missions (to level 30 or whatnot), after that a new mission or story line of missions where you become disheartened and go rogue. In doing so, you lose access to your faction base (romulan flotilla, ESD, Kronos) and can only use the universal locations like Dyson, Drozana, etc. Player has access to ANY account unlocked ship? So you have have a human in a Warbird, or a Romulan in a Gal-X
You know, it takes a casual gamer about a month to respawn his way through to level 60.
Why is every gamer in a hurry to max out? The game is essentially over then and endgame is nothing but DPS peen and space barbie. Oh, and a handful of half-hour episodes a year.
Yay.
I wouldn't mind if I could reset the clock, having STO significantly more time consuming in the low levels so you have actual game to look forward to.

I dont think there are a lot of new players leveling... So basically you have people leveling alts, and the money is in getting to buy that t6 level gear... Not likely to happen.
Tier 1 Already has some upgraded ships. Few people bought them because after your first few hours of gameplay you're only using the T1's to store equipment you don't want to discard.
Find a use for Tier 1 ships, though, and players will be demanding more.
Going past T6 without some endgame to use it on seems entirely ridiculous.
Correct. The current game cannot handle T6 power, not even T5 ships that can still rock it.
The time we can complete higher end content is already quick. People do ISA in minutes. CCA is done in seconds. We can roll up to NPCs now and vaporize them in the first attack cycle of abilities. T5 ships can do this.
Player capability has skyrocketed over the years with all the power creep. NPC capability never had.
T7 is completely necessary. MMORPGs get boring when you can no longer advance your character.
I know it would upset the people who can't stop buying every ship that Cryptic releases and already have a fleet of T6 ships. But this is precisely why T7 is a good idea: there are lots of people who can't stop buying stuff in this game.
If T7s came out tomorrow there would be crying and moaning all over the Internet until the next ship sale came along.
Maybe cryptic are looking at console revenue more than overhauling things for pc players, essentially allowing pc players t drift away rather than alienating them en masse.
We already have 140 levels past 60. We don't need more because of some bogus idea that we need to go to 70 ('To Infinity and Beyond!!!').
