Hello all. I took some time off from the game and had some questions regarding the Non T6 c-store ships. Basically years ago I purchased the Gladius, Thunderchild, and several others all prior to the release of T6 Ships.....so are these basically useless now? Kinda feel dumb that I bought these back in the day and there is no "conversion" for them aside from being skins now. Is there any actually use for lower tier c store ships anymore? Am I correct in understanding the ship releases now will basically be all T6 going forward?

If you really like those ships, then you can purchase Ship Upgrade Tokens for 700 Zen each or a 4-pack for 2,000 Zen. Once a T5 C-Store ship has been upgraded to T5u, then the T5u variant will be available to all characters on your account as long as they are in the same faction. The basic difference between T5u and T6 ships is the lack of a Ship Mastery trait in T5u ships and they will also not have any Specialization Boff stations (Command, Intelligence, Pilot, Temporal) which can allow for other Boff abilities.
With the release of Delta Rising back in October 2014, all new C-Store ships have been T6 ships.
Also... if you make another Fed, You can skip getting the free level up ship and jump straight into the C-Store ship at that tier, which is slightly better than the stock ships.
And like someone mentioned earlier, Admiralty ship cards.
And Wide Angle Quantum Torpedo. Frickin' AWESOME torp for a cruiser or a shuttle with the 180 degree arc.
If you got a ship using the token from the Admiral upon your promotions; they don't count as reclaimable. I have a Defiant like that.
T5 ships are still fine, you can spend a bit and make them T5-Upgrade if you want an extra console slot and a bit of HP/shields. For T4 you start losing some weapon hardpoints (vs T5) and that could hurt a bit in the dps department.
If you are lacking a T5, I would suggest buying a Rare quality ship off the Exchange. They start at 2-3M. Most are Mirror Universe versions, but there are some alien ships out there too.
But honestly, if you got the cash (and desire to spend it on STO); find one of the T6 three ship bundles. They are 2/3 the price of 3 separate ships. The Temporal bundle is arguable the best one. Ships can be used by all factions and are some of the strongest C-store ships out there atm. And that bundle gives you a cruiser, sci-ship and escort/raider to cover all your pew-pew'ing variety desires. And as always... waiting for a C-store sale will save you 15-20%.
Besides the Thuderchild has Point-Defence Console, which can be moved to any other ship - i actually like put it even on my T6 ships - example: right now i look at it on my T6 Caitan Shikaris Escort.
And of course they are always usefull for geting admirality cards...
Also the STO sometimes adds low tier ships - last time with the release of Temporal Agent Pack, but the main focus of new "constructions" is T6 ships, and it is alright - the leveling up of character in STO is very fast and easy...
That said, as others have pointed out some of those C-Store ships aren't even T5. Even so... nothing wrong with that, though they won't be end-game ships by any stretch. However, all future characters (faction allowing) will have access to those ships, virtually all C-Store ships come with consoles that can be applied to other vessels, and for many the ship model is now unlocked and can be applied to similar vessels of a higher tier.
For example: I own the T3 Valdore warbird for my Romulans. While that T3 isn't particularly viable for my max level Romulan, I can also stick its (legitimately amazing) console in similar ships (Valdores, Mogais, and Morrigus). But there's more! I also own the T6 Morrigu, which means I can make my Morrigu appear 100% identical to a Valdore, effectively allowing me to fly a snazzy Valdore class at end-game.
Heck, going further with it: I have a T5 Mirror Universe Mogai, which I used for a couple months as a Mirror Universe Valdore. With all of those similar ships, my Valdore, my Morrigu, my Mirror Mogai, I can mix and match all of their parts/textures/etc.
Thunderchild is no different: if you one day get a T5 or T6 Heavy Escort Carrier (yes, Oslos/Thunderchilds/Akiras get hangar bays) or Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier, then you could happily make that ship a Thunderchild class since you own it.
TLDR; you've got nothing to regret, you can still get plenty of mileage out of those old purchases.

Oh, and that. My Romulan flew that T5 Mirror Mogai because he didn't have a T5 and I wasn't fond of the free options available to him.
2-3m, honestly pretty cheap. If you can't afford it, OP, shoot me a PM and I'll help hook you up.
But they're still usable to someone who hardly ever plays higher than normal difficulty. Like me.
Id argue they are still useful even at higher difficulties Especially sci ships (but they do take some time to get used to)

That's why I keep it on Normal most of the time. Just not interested in 'testing' myself. Japori on Elite was enough.
Yeah, yeah, here come the giggles. Go ahead, I have a thick skin.
I fail to see how the Gladius or Thunderchild, or any Tier 1-3 ship, at the least, was significantly more useful when you bought it, even if that was as soon as they were released. Tier 5s already existed, so they were nearly as far off from endgame use then as they are now.
