Why couldn't they just leave us event free until the Summer event? The past couple of months had been the best. Now back to grind we go.
The other massive downside of these tedious 3 week events. Pretty much guarantees no new story content for a whole month.
Very, VERY little would make me want to run a 3 week event (Remember, that's 14 days worth of runs needed, with 7 spare) other than Crystalline Entity. The rewards being Account wide would be about the only reason, even then it would take a strong reward to run Mirror.
In order of Best First, Worst Last, 3 Week Events.
-(Best) Crystalline Entity: Sub 5 mins, easy, fun. Being good improves completion time.
-Breach: 10-15 Mins, Easy. Being good improves completion time.
-(Worst) Mirror: 15+ Mins thanks to a Time-Gate, not fun. Being good DOES NOT improve completion time as first section is guaranteed to take the same, double digit time every single run, whether you close rifts so fast that they stop spawning (resulting in up to 5 mins just sitting there, doing NOTHING), or spend the entire time just shooting the occasional ship to prevent being tagged as an idler.
If you can't solve it logically, solve it like a moron.
51 + 1 Foundry Character Slots is NOT enough. Some of us love our characters. If I want to buy more character slots, why can't I? I couldn't experience the entire Delta Recruitment event without deleting a character.
The Iconians themselves can't time travel because their memories revert, but there is nothing to say an Iconian couldn't write everything she needed to do on a PADD, pin it to herself, travel back, read the PADD, do the tasks and return. Or just get one of her Non-Herald underlings to go back in time for her.
Oh yeah, I do Foundry missions for both KDFs and Feds. Just search KSTF (Short for Kinas Special Task Force, where Kinas is the name of the Admiral you will be serving under). The earlier ones are less story based and more combat based, while the later ones have a much heavier story element, but keep the large battles.
The perfect reward would be a Mirror Skin for the Odissey! it would be nice!
A friend of mine had a good idea. Make the 4 Mirror ship skins (Mirror KDF, Mirror Fed Old (Yellow), Mirror Fed New (Red) and Mirror Romulan) buyable in the C-Store (Account Wide) to be used on all standard Faction vessels (but not things like Gorn, Nausicaan, Caitian, Ferasan, etc). Maybe even an I.S.S., A.K.S., and A.R.W. name as well as a seperate C-Store Purchase (similar in vein to the NX Registry number one).

So, close a few rifts, power a substation or two, shoot a few mirror ships, the go do something else while waiting for the *&^%$ time gate, because it doesn't matter how good or bad you do, (as long as you don't get the dreaded AFK penalty), the event will last exactly the same amount of time, every time. Not sure it's worth it even for the marks.

I approve of this idea; however, I would additionally suggest that all existing Terran ships get the Mirror Fed New pattern (I like to call it Terran v2) added to their hull options as a matter of course.
As for the event itself, if they want to spice it up I have a suggestion...
Tholian Entanglements: the Terrans' rifts have a chance of attracting Tholians (in a 'reversal' of what can happen when a Tholian capital ship is taken out). If a rift gets to maximum size, there is a small chance of a Tholian group spawning near it; this is checked each thirty seconds as long as at least one max-size rift exists; each additional such rift adds a stacking bonus to this probability.
A revamp here would be to get rid of every time gate including the obligatory minute at the beginning which sucks. I finish a step, move on. No forced wait.

That would be great... but if tey want to keep people motivated for the event, they could be giving faction specific skins as a reward, so you have to choose the character for the skin... if i where Cryptic..

please tell me, sto is one of the things.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
Why couldn't they just leave us event free until the Summer event? The past couple of months had been the best. Now back to grind we go.
My guess is because they want people to play the game.
Right now, I just log in, refine dilithium, do admiralty and log out, There's nothing else to do. I've done the story missions. I've got my rep maxed on everything but competitive and frankly, I don't find that wargame stuff much fun so I only do it once a week or so.
Oh wow, so Competitive Marks will be available. Sounds like a fun event too. Quick question, sorry if I missed reading it somewhere, but does anyone know if this will have to be done per character or for the account-wide? Thanks in advance for the clarity & good luck & fun to us all starting tomorrow.
This has always been a per character thing. They may have changed it, and I pray they have (at least for the console), but I'm not counting on it. Want the console on all your character, you'll need to run it on all your characters.
Thanks for the insight iamynaught. That could definitely be a grind per character. Hope it doesn't take to much time & the reward is worth it then.
It's a 12 minute queue with a 1 minute wait for the briefing at the beginning, another minute or so wait time to be briefed before the boss battle and a period of I believe 3 minutes at the end to beat the boss and get the optional reward. It can of course take longer to beat the boss depending on your team, but you are stuck in there about 15 minutes per run.
The queue will pop pretty quickly, but still, if you get 4 runs in per 60 minutes, you're doing well.
Again, thanks for the valuable info. about this event. I'll be conversable in my time allotment for about 20 minutes then.
I'm just hoping that this particular circumstance is a prelude to my dream expansion: Mirror Recruits.
The resurgent Terran Empire has expanded far too quickly to sustain itself properly, hence the incursions into the Prime Universe for resources. The Empire is engaged in a protracted bluff game with the other powers, but a few Terran Imperials are seeing the writing on the wall, knowing that the Empire will soon collapse, and as such defected to the Prime Universe.
This is actually an interesting idea, and can tie in really well with IDW's latest release...
I imagine the setup would be very similar to what we saw for the temporal recruits, with an initial arc set in the MU. Which presents a potential gold mine of opportunity for the writers... and the event that'd be analogous to the Battle of Caleb IV? Why, it could be MI played in reverse - with the player being part of the initial attack wave, and at some point the mission has you take advantage of the confusion to leave the reservation, as it were.
Of course we'd also need some extra missions that build off the concept. For example, Drake (or someone similarly ranked in Section 31) might be using the same tech the Empire has been using for their incursions to facilitate espionage, and decides to tap you for some of those. Bonus: one of those introduction-arc missions actually has you meet Mirror!Leeta, which could then be reflected in dialogue for future encounters.
The worst of the events, imo. Way too long. Half the players just AFK. I will do it on my main, but seeing as I have a job and somewhat of a life, there's no way I could ever spend >15min per toon for 14 days on this thing. That'd be over 2hrs a day (>28hrs total) just on this horrible event.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
Everyone is saying this event is full of moochers/AFKers...why not just do the same?
Everyone just wait to kill the dreadnought at the end and go???? Why bother doing more?
It's not any fun, right? LOL!
Frankly, I kinda like closing the rifts...but that is me.

Can't say I like events, esp 14 days long, but Mirror Invasion is a fun queue assuming there's no AFK leechers. I set up 2 new epic ships and redid the 3rd ship to make it more fun and perhaps queue up for the full 14 days.
I'll be testing the Crystalline entity event reward console some more as I suspect it really doesn't work very well defensively or offensively. If that's the case, I'll just have some fun, grab some new rep marks on mains, and maybe not bother with the full 14 days.
If the console was account-wide unlock (like event ships have become - the epic rare and super rare grand prizes of phoenix box that are char bound on pickup), I'd be tempted to play it even more with other mains and even alts for some marks and fun, but like this, not even sure about 14 days on just 3 mains.
edit to add: I also hate artificial time gates and cut scenes that can't be skipped, and redundant mission start wait timers.
I don't mind this event so much, as long as I'm not put with a bunch of moochers. It's actually fun to go around and close rifts, power up stations and shoot enemy ships. I agree that it should be gated to completing objectives rather than time-gated, but I doubt they ever do this.
Still, to sit and do nothing for fifteen minutes or sit and do nothing for 3-5 minutes after completing objectives....no-brainer.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

Indeed, sir; we do agree on that.
I agree that it should be gated to completing objectives rather than time-gated, but I doubt they ever do this.
Well, if they could do it in a way consistent with the setting/lore - as it is, the timer is explained by the preparations necessary for the anti-tachyon pulse - then, yes, tying progress to actual objectives would be a good idea. In such a case, you could then further incentivize performance by adding a mark bonus affected by clear time.
While , I wonder if the following changes would be in order:
adjusting rift frequency/density so that while it's possible to close all of them in 15 minutes, it'd be a close thing for an earnest team. Bonus points if managing this nets an accolade ('Clear Skies');
making the incapacitation of Vauthil Station result in mark awards being zeroed
Still, to sit and do nothing for fifteen minutes or sit and do nothing for 3-5 minutes after completing objectives....no-brainer.
Agreed.
On another note, I would also propose another possible 'complication': a high kill rate (X ships in 3 minutes?) prompts the Imperial forces to send backup... in the form of Mobius Squadron! No, not the 118th TFW - this is literally a group of TDDs solely tasked with taking out the players. Defeating them all earns the accolade 'Rending the Strip'.
The Mirror Invasion will be returning to Star Trek Online as part of a brand new limited time event...
What exactly is "brand new" about it? You got rid of the video sequence at the beginning of the dreadnought phase. That's all. Instead we now wait for about half a minute for the final phase to begin after the timer runs out. How exciting!

Things I want in STO:
1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!

Yeah, that one missing end cut-scene makes all the difference.

Firstly, I am a ma'am, sir. *Chuckle*
Secondly, I like those suggestions.
I ran it a couple times today and it was nice seeing everyone working together. I look for people to start AFK'ing after the first week or so.
I was trying out a couple shinies I bought yesterday. The Paradox (well that one was a gift from my bestest friend) and Temporal MM I like them both. Don't know how I'll like the raider, we'll see. I do like the Dread too from that bundle. It's a monster.
Now a LTS and loving it.

Well, it looks like Cryptic listened to the complaints about this Queue. People always complained that the first phase should end when all the rifts are closed, often leaving people waiting around for up to five minutes. Well, they addressed that concern by just continuing to spawn rifts until the timer runs out.
All the runs I was on last night, we had a minimum of 32 rifts (one 38) closed coming out of the first phase.
And as stated, no Bonus Marks for any content where Competitive Marks were chosen including this Event. No patch for today for that though.
Also, the Event had two lines in the PVE UI, one for Normal and one for Advanced. Those two entries do have the dropdown to select Difficulty as well.

A new clicky console would be nice, but...
I can't spare the required time to run 13 characters through a 15+ minute mission every day for two weeks.
So, I guess I'll look at the reward more closely in-game (in the event project description), and decide if I want to run through with just my mains.
Or, perhaps Cryptic made Mirror invasion 'quicker' by removing that time gate?
...
...
Hahahahahaha
Sorry, my pessimisim is showing.
