What is the best thing about Lifetime Sub?

sparkbibosparkbibo Member Posts: 14 Arc User
I've read all the things you get for Lifetime Subbing, and I'm wondering what people think about it. Obviously I like the idea of not paying a monthly fee, but what is the best thing about it, or thing you appreciate most, make most use of, etc etc.

Obviously, these are all opinions, but I'm thinking about getting the lifetime sub and was wondering what you guys thought.

TIA

I think it's worth it myself. For one thing I help support the game, sure it's only a one time payment but that's far more than most ever spend here in game.

Play as a Monthly Subscriber but pay a one time price! <-Worth it.

Play as a Liberated Borg or the NEW Talaxian race <-Cool

Access to the Captain's Table - A special area restricted to lifetime subscribers and veterans! <--For the record this is wasted space.

Exclusive costume insignia - visit a tailor in-game to add it to your Captain <-I wear it most of the time.

"Career Officer" title - Show off your commitment <-See me in game you will see it.

Special Forum Perks and more! <--Not sure but OK.
    Positive thoughts.

There are several free ships you get. Are any of them any good?

I agree with you about supporting the game. I already subscribe monthly, just considering the lifetime.

The LTS can make sense if you plan to create more than 1 or 2 characters, especially if you plan to create 1+ in each faction to see the different stories and fly the different ships.

The T6 tacship (Manticore and KDF/Rom versions) is a nice ship with a fun console. One of my captains flies it with a torp-oriented build - 3 x quantum variants + 1 x dual heavy cannon up front, turrets in back. The mastery trait is also good for torp builds.

The tier V token is nice to get a ship you need for a console set, or just to fly something fun like the Kar'Fi carrier for KDF.

I like the android for away teams since I can pick Eng or Sci and it has both Superior Creative to buff powers and self-res to revive itself on defeat.

The +5% XP is nice for leveling up new characters without needing grinding, and helps you earn spec points a little faster.

I'm on PC, and by April 2018 the the 500 zen / month will have paid back the $200 I paid for it.

^ note that on console you do NOT get 500 zen/month, but the LTS price is lower.

I like 'em. They're more on the escort side of things so if you're into science ships or cruisers you'll end up stuck with the ranking ships, use Zen, or rely on event ships, but with a Lt Cmdr universal slot they are still pretty versatile. The non-fed versions use battle-cloak instead of the nastier standard-cloak. And the console is one of the few ship consoles worth using in my opinion, active all the time allowing you to switch between defensive or offensive postures with a special ability for each mode. Not an end-all be-all console, but not a gimmick like most Zen ships either. Also if you're into specializations, the T6 version (go ahead and skip the T5U) only has the engineer-command specialization option.

Bought my LTS before STO went F2P and it paid for itself before STO went F2P so a real bargain at that time.
Now that you can play for free, it's a harder choice. Like said above, if you go alt crazy it's gonna be a better deal. If you have 1 or 2 toons, you're better off subscribing for a month, power-leveling them to max during that month so they qualify for all the subscriber perks. Then if you do want to make new toons, just subscribe again for a month and level up again.

If not getting the 500 Zen stipend on consoles and not going alt crazy, I really can't see any reason; unless the Vet ships just really call to you. Vet ships are nice, but most players will get tired of using the same ship for too long, so take that into account.

Compare a $200 LTS to what $200 of Zen will get you. During a Zen sale, a $200 purchase can get you 28,000 Zen.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I don't know if its a LTS reward a vetran reward or something else, but my main too got a "Crate of Supplies" that could be opened every 10 levels. The last crate awarded level XII very rare items: 8 phaser beam arrays, 4 neutronium consoles, 4 phaser relays, 4 field generators etc. I am inclined to treat this as a negative as I really didn't learn how to gear this toon properly at all.

Thats a reward as part of you being a Temporal agent and not an LTS.

For me I just like a sense that I have worry free gaming in that I always have plenty of space in bags, never worry about losing stuff due to banks missing payments, and generally have a sense of being in control of my own gaming.

Not sure about these forum perks we were supposed to have as pretty much all of those vanished in the last forum revamp, and yes captains table is pretty much a waste of space.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

Thanks for all the good comments and suggestions. I greatly appreciate it. I did monthly subscribe because I appreciate all the hard work that goes into these types of games and I want to support them to keep going.

I will probably do the LTS soon here, mainly for all the veteran rewards.

I did notice several of you guys referred the the LTS as being $200... Did it go up recently? Currently, they list it at $299.

About twice a year they'll put it on sale. I would expect the next sale some time 'round the end of June.

If you are a monthly subscriber now, you could cancel and put the $45 from April - June towards the LTS.

O, good idea! Thanks for the tip. Good idea. I've already been burned by buying things on the Cstore just to have them go on sale the following weekend!

Ship skin option is decent and one I quite often use, like the white for rommie ships as the canvas for some of the shield visuals.

The two free ships are decent heavy escorts (as in midway between escort and cruiser) and captains yacht is a nice looking fed shuttle, sadly KDF version looks like a wedge of cheese and rommie a cereal box toy. You'll probably never use the t5 ship but it's worth claiming for the admiralty card.

Got my LTS back when the game was sub based so it's paid itself off by now. With some patience the stipend can be saved and used during ship sales to get at least a 3 ship bundle. Or converted to keys to trade into EC on the exchange or bartering for lockbox ships.

Possibly the most useful thing is the account bank slots which let you transfer items and ec to any character on your account regardless of faction.

Definitely wait for a sale on the LTS nowadays though, the game has lasted 7 years but it's a sizable chunk of cash to put down on a game.

Patience is a solid rule, only buying during a sale be it zen or ingame store stuff means you shouldnt feel you got burned on price.

The best thing about buying the LTS is that it makes your wallet lighter so that it is easier to carry it around with you.

To crush your enemies ships, see their warps drives explode before you, and to hear the lamentations of their chief engineers!

ehrm... what was the question again?

Oh, I forgot about the ships, 2 each, T5 and a T6 for each faction. The traits are good and so are the ships. So good in my view that after getting the trait I got the Fleet version of the T6. Also you get a LTS skin you can use for all ships, not just the one's you get with the LTS

The shuttle is pretty good too. I think the Delta Flyer edges it out but that costs zen.

Liberated Borg is the only thing I value in it anymore. Tbh when they went F2P the LTS became worthless IMHO, but I got mine before the game even launched so ...

Yup, that's why I only buy when there's a sale. Sure, I'd like that newest ship in the store now!!! but I'll like it even more 2 months from now when it's 20% off.

Thats me. So the best thing about the LTS is the way my account keeps on collecting Zen, so when I inevitably quit for a few months when I return theres a nice pool of Zen I can use to buy nice things.

(Of course, it would be nice if I could crack the the level XII gear barrier as there are only so many episodes, and pve queues quickly loose their luster in an XII geared ship, so I'll quit again soon for 6+ months)

My husband and I are on XB1, we use to be on PC and have the lifetime subscription, sadly it dose not cross over.
we would love to get a lifetime subscription for XB1, but for both of us it would be about $600.00. we wish the developers would do something like a payment plan of may be three monthly installments to make it more affordable.

Life takes its toll on our money, and being the working class with house, car and other life bills our entertainment takes a back seat after all bills are payed.

We love TSO and support it through the Zen store, but would still love to be lifetime members, hopefully ARC will consider doing a payment program in the future....

^ Put a "Trek Jar" in the kitchen and add bills and change to it when you can? :)

AFAIK console LT sub comes without monthly ZEN which IMO makes it not really worth it. Twice if you both already have LTS on PC. If its a couch/TV thing there are options far cheaper than an LTS to make that with PC possible.
