    The rest is self-explanatory.

That is some pretty bad logic.

Could say the exact same thing about you and your friends logic...I mean assassinations and bombings are peaceful resolutions to you...so you aren't exactly the most qualified to question someones logic.

Lmao the stupid is so strong with you guys I really laughed out loud.

The example I gave was not peaceful, it just things happen in another way. It COULD end up peaceful at times, or not. It could end up as a ground combat mission or it could end up as space battle. The point is, having options is a good thing, and it is not so far fetch that this engine could not handle it. We already got choice, and branching off on paths is not mind blowing hard.

Strange, it seems quite logical to me.

That is because you can't think outside of the box. The game is really so bad that you got to lie to yourself each day fool yourself that this is an amazing game. I pity you.

I see no reason for this game story or engine can't do things like this.

Based off your years of software development experience, mainly focused on game engines, no doubt?

Yes, sure, STO could be better. Donuts could be better. Brussels Sprouts could be better. But, as the famous Roman philosopher once put it: est id quod est. This is what we have.

Keep in mind that while the "multiple choice option" style might make for a better experience, it could actually make the game smaller, because it has to run in just under 4GB of RAM. This isn't a 64-bit game. Adding more variations to all the missions means that there's going to be a lot more (slow) disk I/O to get everything crammed into place. Three times the choices would lead to 1/3 and overall story to the content on a mission.

I don't think it would fit the genre. There wasn't, and will never be, any negotiating with the Borg, the Undine, or the Iconians. The several missions we have that do follow the model--which occur during the Cardassian/Bajoran arc and the Iconian arc--aren't really all that interesting, at least not compared to what follows when things go wrong.

Point of order: how would a team get through an option A, option B, option C sort of mission story line? That sounds more suited to solo play, or maybe just something people who like to spend time arguing in a chat window would like to play.

Still, if you think Star Trek: The Negotiator has legs, by all means get hold of Shatner and then call the legal team at Priceline to tell them of your intent to violate their intellectual property. It could sell.

(In the back of my mind there's an alarm going off that says this is just a slow train-wreck of a troll thread.)

You said a whole lot of stupid that I already answered.

I'm sorry, but you morons don't deserve respect. I don't care if you disagree with me, but how you did it is laughable at best. You guys got so defensive so I attacked. You attacked me first by my two cents.

I guess I am one of them guys, because you morons can't be reason with. Can't debate a thing, you act like MMOS can't do what I said, or put words into my mouth.

I put each one of you in your place and still you live in your own worlds. Forget you all, Enjoy your game that keeps getting worse. With fans like you I wonder why.

OP using WOW as an argument against streamling is a joke. Kind of clear you didn't play WOW pre WOTLK. Starting with WOTLK Blizzard started "streamlining" the game starting with skill trees. Fewer and fewer choices forcing you to have "must have traits" that dominated the trees to the point that whatever optional traits were of little consequence to creating a charecter that was tailoered to your wants and style of play. Take a look at the player base pre WOTLK and post WOTLK it has been in a death spiral since. WOW has never recovered the playeer base it once had. STO's player base on the other hand is pretty stable and has grown with the advent of console play. Something WOW doesn't offer. STO has few currencies thank goodness for that and only one that arguably is obsolete (GPL) and the four others are very useful in this game Lobi, Dilith, Zen and EC. Two of which can be easily converted back and forth. Lets be honest for a second STO is a FPS for the most part with a scoopful of Trek and early combat flight sims and some MMO thrown into the mix. It may not be your cup of tea or your friends but thats ok no game can please everyone but it does appeal to a boat load more people then you and Devs listen to folks who spend money and give constructive criticism as to what can be made better. Just trashing the game because instead of asking how does this work (crew missions and such) you assume it doesn't make sense or fit into your conception of what makes Star Trek or not is a sure way to be ignored by them. As far as the crew system goes it makes perfect sense as the ships always had bridge crews with thier own set of skills (Chekov navigation, Sulu Helm, Uhura communications and so on) also there were missions done by non primary charecters in Trek (ensign Roe for example). So I guess you missed that in Trek.
Maybe try another game more fitting to your view of things there are enough out there to try. For the most part vast majority of players like the way the game mixes things could it be better of course but it can be far far worse WOW style with insanely low drops of useful gear (face it the term "vendor trash" describes WOW to a T, impossible to solo quests, nearly impossible to get top tier gear thanks to the way "treasure" is set up in the chests at the end of a quest. Want that rare gear in WOW run that dungeon many times and hope you win the reward roll. Here you can pretty much upgrade any piece of gear to Epic with a little time and effort and you can do it for drum roll please ...zero real world cash spent. So I wish you luck in whahever you play but it's kind of clear once again STO isn't for you or your friends.

I wish this game luck in getting new players. With fans like you. I doubt it will be keeping them.

The very fact you fools argue with me over something as basic as branching story parts is crazy. You fools just stop, you made me laugh enough. I'm done with ya. Let the thread die because some of you people need to stop living in your own world.

At least a few people here agree with me, the rest of you lol just stop.

Funny you telling people they live in their own little world when you constantly blast them with I'm right and everyone else is wrong replies.

You make claims about how easy something would be with no knowledge at all on the subject, how many MMO's have you developed?

You act like a child and claim everyone is attacking you when they aren't...they talk logically and you respond them with lies or opinions (opinions are not facts) and when they don't agree with your opinions, you call them stupid.

They're trying to have a logical debate and you reply like your personal opinions are fact, and you're taking it very personally that people dare not take your personal opinions as fact.

You're the only one here acting like a two year old, yet you have came back multiple times after you said you were done. Well then why not do us a favor and be done?

You obviously have some growing up to do...so maybe it's time you stop worrying about video games and go out there into the real world? Because if anyone is living in their own little world, it's you son...now go little guy...spread your wings and fly away...maybe take in a little bit of reality since all you live in is fantasy.

If you want Trek with a diplomatic option, you're stuck with highly scripted adventure games like Star Trek 25th Anniversary, or simulators like Starfleet Academy. And even in those, diplomacy is only really an option when the script of the mission says it is.

Otherwise, I'd advise picking up a pen and paper and trying the upcoming Star Trek Adventures tabletop RPG. Then your players can attempt whatever solution to a problem they can imagine up, and if the GM railroads them into combat anyway, well that's probably a crappy GM.

Clearly I made you upset. You would attack me from the very start, Question me showing you don't know your place. Clearly never watched Deep Space Nine. Don't understand about other mmos, and act like what people were trying to do is have a logical debate. Are you for real? People got all fanboy up and defended this game that clearly needed it. My personal opinions means more to me than yours. That is a fact. So please by all means keep getting upset. I won't be posting again, but I will read it. I need a good laugh.

To the people who understood what I was getting at. Who disagree without taking it so personal. Thanks, and I pity you guys got to put up with this.

Skills in STO don't have cool downs..... again, what the hell are you talking about?
Let me give you a clue. Click on one of your BOFFs and then click the SKILLS tab.Tada, skills with cooldowns. Maybe you should think before automatically starting to attack someone. But then again, you seem to just be one of the many toxic people on this forum that lives to do that.

That actually wouldn't bother me at this point if they did that. The Trek IP would do well to be with a new game given all the faction favoritism, bugs, and issues that have been hounding STO for years.
