What would you like to see in the next Expansion?

Hello! To give everyone a breather from the impassioned discussions about the Ground Class Abilities Balance Pass, I was wondering what each of you would like to see in the next expansion? (Pardon the inevitable "Wall of Text")

In my opinion, as an irregular poster but long-time STO player... The next Expansion should focus on the Klingons and their history:

1. 9th Century Qo'nos- Begin with a new Klingon oriented AoY event which starts the player on Qo'nos/Kronos prior to Kahless and Lukara defeating Molor and the Fek'Ihri at the battle of Qam Chee
• The three starter races should include Klingon (Ridged Pre-Klingon Augment Virus), Gorn (Rubber Suit), and Orions
• The player will start as one of Kahless' Warriors/Chronicler of Kahless' adventures in the Paq'batlh
• Illustrate the culture of the time and how it differed between the Klingons of then (more Feudal Japan/Dynastic China/Three Kingdoms Period of Korea) and now
• Show the romance of Kahless and Lukara and how they overcome Molor
• Include standard Ground Tutorial training missions/maybe a Wild Targ Hunt
• Include standard Space Mission with a focus on assisting Kahless getting the knowledge of and the components for forging the Sword of Kahless
• Player encounters a Temporal Agent during the celebrations who makes the player an offer that he/she cannot refuse (indicating someone is interfering in Klingon history and that they need help in solving the mystery to avert an even worse crisis)... Player is beamed to a Korath Temporal Science Ship ...

2. 1400- The player is now transported to Qo'nos prior to the Hur'q Invasion (Insectoid Space Vikings) Player attempts to warn the Klingon Leadership but fails
Hur'q invade, player fights in the defense of the Sword of Kahless, the sword is stolen by the Hur'q, The player is beamed up to time ship

3. 2154- The player is now a member of the Klingon crew on the Bird of Prey that has been boarded by Augmented Humans (EnterpriseKhan’s kin)
• The player tries to warn the Captain and crew but ends up failing, the crew is overrun, and the player is transported back to the time ship

4. 2154- The player is now at the Klingon Research Facility where the Klingon's are trying to make their own Augmented Klingons
• The player tries to warn the Klingon Scientist Antaak about the repercussions of his experiments but fails, Klingon Augment Virus spreads, Augmented Klingons are placed on the Klingon Defense Force front lines while Imperial/True Klingons maintain the core

5. 2270- You are now at K-13... you are one of the Klingon prisoners on K-13 (you have been given a temporary cranial augment if Klingon to blend in with the Klingon prisoners) prior to it being removed from 2270
• You once again attempt try to warn the Federation Station crew but they fail to listen about evacuating and K-13 is pulled from its current location

6. 2410- You are now back on Qo'nos with the standard AoY (with a Klingon slant) missions arch that now leads the player to the Gamma Quadrant... new discoveries and old enemies (already developed each of these below/avoiding spoilers)
• Discovery of someone who was working with the Krenim Researcher turned "Envoy" Noye to defeat the Federation and who was also trying to do the same to the Klingon Empire
• Discovery of what happened to the Hur'q since the first invasion and the reason why the Founders originally created the Dominion
• Return of Molor and the new Augmented Fek'Ihri
• Discovery of the true origins of both Molor and Kahless

7. Ways for the Development team to justify redesigning Qo'nos and flesh out the grind
• A combined Augmented Hur'q and Fek'Ihri invasion of Qo'nos, the destruction of the Capital, and subsequent rebuilding (similar to Earth Space Dock)
• Ground missions on both Cardassia Prime and Ferenginar/Ferengal
• New Ground Battlezones on Qo'nos, Cardassia Prime, and Ferenginar/Ferengal
• A new Fleet Holding Fleet Outpost Gamma (Military Oriented Fleet Holding for all threats and opportunities presented by the Gamma Quadrant)

8. Monetization of the Expansion could include
• Playable Cardassian/Jem'Hadar Race Zen store purchase w/unique racial traits
• Playable Cardassian/Jem'Hadar Borg Zen store purchase w/standard Borg traits
• Lobi outfits: Cardassian, Cardassia Prime, Ferenginar, and Historic Klingon outfits from before 2270
• Lobi Ground Armors/Costume: Cardassian and Ferengi
• Lobi Ground weapon sets: Cardassian and Ferengi
• Lobi Space Weapon Sets: Cardassian and Jem'Hadar
• Zen/Lobi Non-Combat/Combat Pets: Cardassian and Ferengi
• Lobi store Shuttle/Fighter: Cardassian and Jem'Hadar
• Zen Store Ships: Tier 6 Carriers-Klingon Lukara Class and Federation Caitian Atrox w/Frigates and/or Fighters
• And the inevitable New Lockbox with Hur'q and Fek'Ihri items

Well, that is one opinion. What is yours?

just a point here... why would a gorn(rubber or not) or an orion, be on Qo'nos at that point in time, and why would they give a damn about saving/experiencing Klingon history?

Frankly I'd love it if they finished the AoY expansion by adding the missing 23c Klink Empire and Rom Star Empire 6 mission mini-fraction. Galorndon Core shows they could do it, and damned well. Not doing it was just as TRIBBLE a cop out as not allowing Caitians for 23c Starfleet.

For the next expansion tho? Honestly I'd like to see them go back and update parts of the map for 2411. Qo'nos and its orbiting shipyard are years overdue for a facelift and they got slammed worse than ESD did. Mol'Rihan needs its orbiting defenses and Starbase, not to mention the city itself with an academy. There are plenty of older story missions that would be excellent material for follow up stories. Fek'lhri for Klinks, is an obvious choice. What happened to the miners after Madran abandoned that colony? What happened after we went to the Suliban base? Lots of great options for Romulans. Feds could finally explore the 'Children of Khan' thing maybe.

In addition I would love to see racial 6 mission alternative tutorials as an expansion. Perhaps your Andorian start off in a Royal Navy Academy before transferring to Starfleet, or your Orion makes a few really poor business decisions before deciding life in the KDF might be a hair safer for a few years. This would also be a great time to let the Suliban or another race into the Romulan Republic. We could even use this as a great excuse/reason to add a new generation of race specific t6 ships

I generally like and second this idea...

However, your idea is a bit... grandiose, LOL.

    My rebuttal:

    1. Revamp the Fek'lhri arc on the KDF side to more emphasize the involvement of the Hur'q.
    2. A cross-faction mission that shows the discovery of a McGuffin that signals the Hur'q may not be extinct, as thought. Perhaps, they can even tie into the Tzenkethi somehow, like those crystals we're discovering can be used to summon the Hur'q.
    3. The Cardassians are introduced as a sub-faction, with a truncated level-up path to 50 (five-six missions, max). Players will then have access to the standard FE arcs, the Dyson/Delta/Iconian stuff, and the Timey-wimey stuff.
    4. Use the Cardassians as the spearheads of a new Gamma Quadrant expedition to find out more about the Hur'q. They make this peaceful and exploratory overture in a effort to repair their people's image, post-Dominion War.

The new expansion would have the new Cardassian sub-faction, a new GQ/Cardassian fleet holding, and the new exploration system as the major tentpole items. I would pit the Dominion against the Hur'q, and push them towards the eventual peace we'll apparently have in the 28th century.

How about an end to player 'What do you want to see in the next expansion' threads  I would prefer that the Devs only ask that question, because some players tend to get up in arms when Dev's don't pay attention to player demands from a non-official thread.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Thank you for your input everyone! In response...
See folks, this is what happens when you use Charisma as your dump stat.
Lol! True. If only Cryptic tied more of your DOFF Reps to your success/failure in certain Missions where your dialogue choices led to consequences that really impact your game-play. Well, besides the infrequent "you can earn accolade X, Y, or Z if you successfully respond in a specific way during a dialogue sequence."
just a point here... why would a gorn(rubber or not) or an orion, be on Qo'nos at that point in time, and why would they give a damn about saving/experiencing Klingon history?
Good point. I have to confess that the only reason I have Gorn as the third race is because I want to have the option to create a full Rubber Suit Gorn character. ;) I realize the historical inconsistency and cultural issues involved. But we could always argue, just as we did during the DS9 Mission: Second Wave, that the Hur'q and the Fek'Ihri will not just stop with the Klingon Empire. And the reason that the Rubber Suit Gorn could be on Qo'nos is that there was an early period of history where the Gorn and the Klingon's worked together in some formal arrangement for a common goal (Mutual Defense/Trade Pact etc...) which would eventually collapse and lead to the current arrangement between the Gorn and the Klingons.

We could replace the Gorn with another race, but I am not sure who would best fit into this outside of the Romulans or some race from the Star Trek expanded universe like Star Fleet Battles or the Novels. However, I am sure the Romulans would want their own swing at the AoY bat.

Well, Grandiose is my middle name! I mean, I do secretly desire to see a Fallout/Star Trek Crossover beyond hidden content in Fallout 1 & 2. I am thinking a tie-in through the missed opportunity that was "Assignment Earth" starring Robert Lansing as "Gary Seven," the mysterious familiar "Isis," and the embodiment of 1960's idealism and youthful exuberance, Teri Garr as "Roberta Lincoln."

I'd go with Cardassia, with left over alpha Quadrant Vorta and Jem'hadar.

I'd play a klingon arc but they dont allways need to fail.
An expansion leading up to the gamma quadrant would be well recieved.

Personally i'd like a chance to reroll my species. Surgical alteration was a mainstay of TNG and we even have a klingon doff mission that say just that. Logically it seems like a viable option but it has never been put into the game. Add whatever new races you want, charge whatever zen you want, but give me an option to change into a new race as well. Zen Zen Zen sure but how many ships do you really need?
  • evilmark444evilmark444 Member Posts: 6,951 Arc User
I want a Cooperative faction that can use all ships (including T6) from the chosen allied faction but with a mandatory assimilated skin, various borg ships in a mega bundle, and Romulan, Human, and Klingon races restricted to lifetime subs (possibly aliengen too to prevent them from being made that way). I'd also like to see lifers get access to all of the Allied faction's uniforms as well. I'd also like fully customizable TNG, FC, and Voyager Borg drone costumes available in the c-store as Borg faction exclusives.

Gamma Quadrant expansion. The Hur'q are back (or never left), and have an issue with the Dominion. We know very little about the Gamma Quadrant, we can presume the Dominion is a major player, but that doesn't mean it's the only one.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

New Romulus Revamp. Open up the city, give us some new missions in there, maybe add some vendors where we can buy osol twists and jumbo romulan mollusk.

First City Fixes: Fix the floating things on Qo'nos already!

More KDF and RRF stuff all around.

he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.

at this point, the only season most of us would like to see is one named like 'rebuild from scratch, without bugs" "Bug free season" "finely fixing +7year old bugs!" etc...
it could be a great idea before we reach 100% buged, which btw is realy closed to be ;)

humans can sneak into "humanified klingon" timeline as fake klingons, to somehow reverse eugenic dna when they thought it would make them stronger and it went wrong. so the feds can trigger some cure to bring those klingons back to normal.

If you think STO is even close to "100 bugged" I suggest you go play a lot of other MMOs.

I've seen more consistent bugs in Guild wars 2 then in STO

While I generally agree with you, I've never seen a bug in any game stick around as long as the STO bug with moving things in your inventory only working 50% of the time. Has literally been around since beta and never addressed.

you are probably right but that doesnt justify the fact that devs are realy lazy about bugs in any games and just "clap clap" each time they add some.
I've been a dev, back in the 90s. Nowadays people tend to forgot that before Online games we were forced to test and retest everything before going live (floppy, CD,DVD, etc) cause they were no way to fixe it once it's live for most parts.
That's probably why games like Quake/AOE/etc are still running (for +20y) without fix on so many setup with at least 99% of content working perfectly if not 100% : it's because we realy did our job for that without thinking "bah, we'll fix that later, we dont care for now!".

but it's not only games, lots of website are build by bad devs that dont check if their doing will work on a single different bronzer for ex: a realy big insurance company got all it's client stuck at login just because of that. and when they asked the devs why ? "yeah chrome, IE, safari are evil bronzer I dont code for those, deal with that!"
and never got fired cause pple think it's commun doing now...

I have literally never had problems with moving things around in my inventory, and honestly have no idea what bug you are referring to.

When you click and hold an item to drag it somewhere else 50 percent of the time it doesn't register and does nothing. Has worked this way for me every single time I've logged in since beta, on multiple computers, with multiple mice and a laptop's touch pad, on every version of Windows from Vista to 10.

Yeah, I should have caveated this entire discussion with the disclaimer that while I am a fan of Star Trek, I am definitely not an expert nor an aspiring FanFic author. I pulled most of those dates/character synopses from the Memory Alpha/Beta sites and the odd Star Trek forums around the web. Although "50 Shades of Tribble" does sound like a project that could be green-lighted! ;) So I will have to defer to your skill with the pen and knowledge of Star Trek.

What I wrote was more of an attempt at trying to close some gaps in the story lines, give a boost to the Klingon player base, exploit the movement towards the Gamma Quadrant, and figure out a way for Cryptic to earn some much needed cash to support the fixes that @doyouw, @evilmark444, and others have mentioned over the years.

In regards to bugs, I have come to accept that unless Cryptic transitions STO/All of their games to a new engine (not an updated CoH Engine) with a workforce that will commit themselves to Cryptic for years to come, that we will always have the issues that folks deal with on a day-to-day basis. This does not even cover the issues some people have with Cryptic's Server locations and the Internet Provider they use.

It seems that whatever employee turnover methodology they use/have used does not include a proper handover with a mandatory passing of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual on "How to do everything I did, but not as well."
