    Hello, friends.

First of all : I hope I am not disturbing things by creating "oh great, yet another knucklehead requesting x/y". If that is the case, accept my apologies. I'll still be a knucklehead, though.

Alright, in a few words : I love this game, I love being a part of the ST universe. I'm not a big spender (would that I could be) and am content to play a few hours here and there, whenever I'm able to. The thing is... I'm only able to log in a couple of hours a week (when I get home), most often on week-ends. The rest of the time, I just don't have access to the game.

This does mean I'll never get a summer/winter event ship. That's a shame (especially as I like asymetrical ships), but that's just my luck.

But the new season giveaways... Heck, they're giveaways. As in, free for everyone to grab. And I can't even grab them because I'm on the road, sometimes hundreds of kilometres from my computer. So when it's just costume unlocks, I don't really care. But when it's precious things that (at my rate of playing) would take weeks of Dil grind to acquire like additional ship slots, I can't help being frustrated.

So... For the sake of all move-a-lot Trekkies like myself, and maybe for the sake a other people who get stuck in doorways far away from home in these precious weeks, could you please consider making these New Season giveaways available all week? Just so we could actually get that which you freely offer?

    Please?

I agree 1100%. Some of us have lives and job commitments outside of this game. We need options! Freaking options.

This giveaway event is just keep reminding of why i loathed this game and left for a few years. Trying to come back with all tyhe great buzz and graphics improvements and recent movie and TV show announcements. But man, I am beginning to hate things again...

Yes, the giveaways are free, but they put pressure on you to log in *now* -- and then for the next week, each day. This allegedly leads to you spending RL money, once enticed by all the free goodies you received. If they just said, 'It is all free, and come collect it whenever you want,' then there'd be no advantage in it for Cryptic.

And yes, even the span of a full week is an eternity to Cryptic, with you not being 'forced' to log in all the time, as (from their perspective) you'd just lost momentum during the long pauses: they want you to develop enough traction to want to keep going.

I get your point from a business perspective, but honestly they are just doing everything they can with this to loose me again as a customer. So i guess they don't really care?

This is the second day in a row that the launcher has been crashing ever time I try to log in. It does not patch. It does not do anything. It just keeps crashing. So I have not been ABLE to log in at all in the first place.

Just my luck. The moment a giveaway starts, that is when the launcher gets broken.

Sucks man. I only had the problem of the launcher taking forever to patch and then i only got the item on a few toons. Now I can';t get in at all due to freaking maintenance.

Wow you are people are complete ****. Do you have no comprehension of what it means to have responsibilities in the real world? Cryptic shouldn't be acting like a bunch of teenagers who all want to be such special snowflakes that they yell and scream when they come to school and see other people wearing the same thing they are. This is only a game, an entertainment product. Cryptic's job is to entertain ALL its players, not just the ones who have the least out of game responsibilities. Not making the rewards more open to ALL the loyal players is a complete and unforgivable slap in the face to all the loyal players who for whatever reason were not able to log in.

For all you players who are trying to white knight for Cryptic, learn to have some empathy for other people and realize that everyone lives a different life outside the game and that we should seek to be as inclusive as possible, not as exclusive as possible.

I work full time. I still choose to spend time grinding for the event ships. I also take the 5 minutes to log in to claim free daily giveaways.

It's my choice to grind instead of pay lobi or pass on a ship. It's someone else's choice to watch sports, do grocery shopping, take the kids to otter wrasslin' practice or in the OP's case keep on truckin' instead of logging in.

It's fine with me if Cryptic decides to make the giveaways weekly, but I understand that they are a business. It makes business sense to tie the giveaways to daily logins just like at other F2P online games. They do it that way to help bring in the money that keeps the lights on.

If life keeps you too busy to log in, and you can't afford to pay for things, Cryptic is at least giving you the gift of a game you can play without spending money.

Unlike some other games there's no charge for the new story content, or joining queues, or using your best loot drops, or setting your uniform colors in the tailor.

Good points. But I still retain the right to be angry at them for not caring more about ALL their players.

So, putting an entire game out there for free that you can easily play and explore without ever spending a dime, then giving away free stuff on top of that, is not caring about ALL their players? It's a small bonus, and if you don't get it, it doesn't affect your ability to play the game at all. It doesn't really put you too far behind anyone else at all. The only reason it should bother someone is if they are sitting there thinking, "Other people got this, but I didn't, so I feel cheated." Quit worrying so much about what other people got and focus on what you are getting.

I like the subtle hint that those of us who get to log in each day for a few minutes to collect the rewards somehow don't have lives... Real cute, by the way...

Can we have threads like these added to the FCT list and make them bannable offenses? So sick of the "everyone gets a trophy" millennial attitude any more...

And I understand you completely. And let me haste to say those aren't my ideas, of course, but typical marketing strategies. If it were up to me, the business end of this game would be a whole lot less Ferengi. :)

Well, problem is Cryptic rewards so extremely small time commitment with this giveaway that it's ridiculous. The 3 ships took a whole minute of mine to redeem. (Of course I need to put aside some time in the future to redeem on all of my toons. I don't have time for that now.)
And yes this game being the most generous F2P game I have ever seen, I can't really complain. I just work around problems like the canceled mac client, no linux client and unfinished gateway.

Wow guys... I had no ideas my request would cause such strong reactions.

First : while I do bemoan the missed opportunity, I do not accuse Cryptic of anything. Hell, I like the game as it is, and I welcome the opportunity to play it for free. It's actually quite cool of them to offer free stuff from time to time.

Also, I do realize that making the giveaways short-lived is part of a business decision destined to keep players logging in every day for a week. I'm just surprised they feel that they need such a limitation to keep players online (if that's their reasoning), especially with the promises of the new season and the success of the last released episode (Echoes of Light).

I simply do not see how it helps long-term attendance to make each reward only available for one day. I mean, it's not like some fiend would come out of the shadows once in each of the giveaways week, grab every free item and then slink back to its lair chuckling, to remain offline until the next giveaway, right?

I mean, after all, you have to play the game to appreciate the gifts you've received in-game. So why the restriction? The thought of any player, dissatisfied with something in the game, pausing in the middle of his dramatic, cape-swirling exit just to grab the free goodies before uninstalling the client, is as illogical as to be amusing.

I missed day four and could really use the spec points to finish my AoY captain's march to three full spec trees.

My reaction: Bummer. Had other stuff I needed to do more. ((shrug))

Fortunately the $50 triple pack of T5 battle cruisers is a freebie all weekend. Go get it.

You're probably right, @repetitiveepic . Always good to keep things in perspective.

Anyway, just wanted to state that I have read that this week's final reward (the free T5 ships) will be reclaimable not just today but until Monday. So 1/I'm pretty excited to get a new ship for each three of my 40+ level toons but also the admiralty cards that go with it, and 2/ this last reward was made to be available to most players, including the far-from-homes, and I'm really glad I will not miss out on this week's celebration entirely.

So, about that new information, it would be petty of me not to say "thank you, devs!". I truly appreciate it.

Actually, once you unlock the three ships, they're permanently available to your account, including new captains you make in the future :).

Sorry snowflake but if taking tops 10 minutes to run the event is too time consuming you need to stop playing games period and rethink your life. Instead of maybe logging in and bitching on the forums you should be taking that time to play the game insead. If your life is so frazzled you get bent out of shape that you have zero free time to take and have a bit of fun you are heading for a heart attack. No comprehension of responsibility? Really how nice that you know everything about others lives that let you make this broad assumption with authority. I have ZERO empathy for you at all what little I had was gone when you made that statement. But hey you are the expert here on what others do in thier life so hey we will all bow down to your snowflake crown and toe the line and say "Oh I feel so bad you can't take 10 minutes to play. Here's a safe spot for your to stay safe from the big bad mean posters." Really guy you lost any sympathy you may have had with the same old tired lament excuse "I don't have time".

@nikeix and @repetitiveepic : I did not know, about both these things. Well, I don't know if the B'rel will really fit my style (tough, devil-may-care, in-your-face tank), but just the fact that my future toons (when I'll have time to create any) will be able to unlock these ships is cause enough for celebration :)

sadly face tanking is one of a very small list of things the b'rel is bad at. though it can still be surpisingly tough.

I'd like this as well, but not for same reason's as OP... but same reason's as another poster mentioned.

For the past 2-3 days I have been unable to even launch the game due to the client crashing when launching. I open Arc, start STO, it patches, I click "Engage", get the Cryptic loading screen, then straight into application error. I have also tried via the Steam STO client, same problem (yes, I now have 2 separate STO installs as I installed the Steam client to test).

I have been playing STO on this computer for months with no problems, including during previous freebies & giveaways. However as of now I have missed the Spec points & the ship give-away due to no fault of my own - I have had the time, but am unable to log on due to the game unexpectedly crashing out of the blue. This is why I'd wish for the giveaway's to last longer, or another way to access/acquire them for people like myself - and yes, there are others in the same position.

STO is the only game I have this issue with, other games such as ESO, GW1, GW2, D3, W*, etc all work fine for me. I can ping the Cryptic patch server's... but the game won't launch. I've tried adding exceptions to FW & AV, tried disabling them, tried STO's 'Safe Mode'. Nothing. Guess it's just not meant to be. *shrugs*

Note - I just read that the ship giveaway time has been extended. Hopefully something changes and I am actually able to launch the game again... as forgetting the giveaway's, I actually LIKE playing the game. So even if I miss them all... I'd love to just be able to play the game at the very least.

I am just sad that we cannot claim the ships as a box to stay in our inventory, until we can open them. My AoY and my Rom are still on levels 10 and 15.. so i cannot claim them :/

Last year's anniversary i lost the ships for 5 minutes, cos i was working...

You are at the very bottom of the insurmountable pile of TRIBBLE I give about your remark. A mere flyspeck on the radar of life. You are so fixated on the most pointless things in life (punctation in a game forum) that life itself is passing you by. Sad little man.
