Temporal Bonuses Warning

I heard that TOS/Temporal chars get bonuses once they max out their rep trees (UR Gear) and spec trees, so I made one. Spent WEEKS grinding the rep trees to max, but then no UR gear dropped. THEN I found out it needed to be a AOY char with Transponder to work. Unbelievable. That's weeks of grinding down the toilet for nothing.

IMO Rep/Spec bonuses should apply to *all* Temporal Chars, whether they were made the day of AOY launch or yesterday. Or else what is the point of making one?

I'm not expecting Cryptic to fix it, but I wanted to post it, partially to vent, and partially as a warning to anyone else currently grinding a new TOS character, hoping for bonuses. There are none. Do something more productive with your time.

    I don't understand why they unlock an account wide jump in rep gear to xiii but they can't start rep gear out at xiii also. I have all reps maxed (except the new lukari) yet the AOY temporal character with the device starts with xii rep gear.

    My only guess as to why they did this was as part of the "promotion" to get players to create a character during that time period, much like many of their promotions. Since people didn't play during that time, they still wanted to leave the attraction of having the old Star Trek f/x, feel and other things so they left it in place for those who wanted to create a character in that time period but would not benefit. For example you can't create a Delta character at all, even though the story line and everything is still in place, for those Delta created characters.

    Delta Bonuses only applied to Delta toons.
    Temporal bonuses only applied to the TOS toons.
    etc...

    the expansion bonuses only applied to the groups that were a part of that expansion...

    If there was a Lukari Faction this time around for Reckoning addition, then any bonuses would only apply to the Lukari...

    Not sure if I explained that correctly, but close enough. there was some confusion back when TOS was the big thing. Happened to a lot of peeps. Happened to me during Delta. *shrug*

    So basically you took some hearsay as fact and didn't check beforehand?
    When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

    Well, to be fair, most of us knew that we needed a Temporal character that was made during the event and leveled them to the point they got to the 25th century. We had 6 weeks back in July to get them ready to be a Temporal agent and if we didn't make it, it was no fault but our own since it takes what, 2 hours to get to the end of the first arc?

    The point of making one now would just be for someone to experience the story of being an alternate Federation Captain. TOS fed gets unique starting ship and the basic TOS uniforms for free.

    Wait for the next Recruitment event. Chances are they will do one when the Cardassian micro-faction is introduced or do something similar to the Delta Recruitment event. Although, it is somewhat doubtful that Cryptic will release the same rewards as the previous ones.

    check what? the only information i could get on it was what i got from fleet/groups on STO itself. I was encouraged to do it... until I actually finished it, and I got "oh wait, you don't have an AOY, it won't work". gah

    Sorry to hear that, man. (Awesome avatar, by the way. :) BOTP/Gatchaman FTW!) But, yeah, those sorts of bonuses only apply to characters made during the Recruitment Event(s). Good news, though, is that you don't have to complete everything during the Event, just make the character and play to a certain point, usually finish its tutorial. So, next time around, you can be better prepared.

    I agree with the OP, that is ridiculous. Now I wonder if my temporal toons are the "right" type. What is the transponder? Who can keep up with this stuff?

    Simone: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

    Next time try reading NEWS instead of grinding based on chat trolls? But it was helpful to post a warning to others getting their news from third-hand rumor.

    Yep. No warning or bug fix necessary.

    The Temporal Bonus only applies to AoY captains created between July 6th and August 24th and have completed Battle of Caleb IV. If you want to blame anyone, then blame those people who fed you wrong information.

    STO is my first and only MMO so I don't know how others may work, but I'm assuming they also have limited time exclusive offers. Surely Cryptic can't be the only company that does this? Not a big fan of it myself - one unfortunate turn of events and whoosh you've missed out due to nothing in your control, not to mention new players never being able to get that one reward that may be useful to them. But it is what it is.

    On a related note, I wasted an hour of playing time on the last DOff recruitment event because a relatively new player said that epic DOffs were available. Since I only tried the event on it's introduction when, at the time, the best quality DOff was very rare I figured I'd give it a go again to see if Cryptic upped the reward. If anything it was a change of pace from the typical STO grind. After discovering the player was mistaking epic quality for very rare it was a good reminder of why I only did the event once.

    I did the last Doff recruitment event with some of my captains. I do a lot of Doff missions so I don't mind spending a little bit of time on that event when it rolls around. I got two very rare Technicians and one very rare Fabrication Engineer out of it among a couple of other not so memorable Doffs.
