I'm getting the message every time I launch that Direct X will no longer be supported after March. How do I check to see if I'm updated to the newest version? I know it's a windows update. My system is all new, except I'm on 7 Ultimate. Or is there a windows update I can just update and do it, or is this message being shown to everyone and I may not even have to worry about it?

This message in the launcher will not appear if you are running dx11, so if you see it you won't be able to play STO past March 1st unless you update your machine's directx to 11 or better.
This also applies to winxp users, although they have to upgrade to a minimum of Vista or 7 I believe.
Edit: changed "run" to "Ok" because that's what the dialog box says.
As for the prompt when you launch the game. I personally have not seen that prompt since I deleted the DX9 command switch from the launcher options and set my in game options to DX11.
Nvidia: GTX400 series or newer;
AMD: HD5000 series or AMD K8 APU, or newer;
Intel: HD4000/2500 (Ivy Bridge), or newer.
however if you can afford it an upgrade to a dx 11 or better card and one with atleast 2 gigs of video ram.

P.S. Yes people, I am a fluent Spanish speaker and it's my first language.
GTX 260 (Dell OEM crappy version) here, after getting the message and switching to Dx11 I can no longer see, or have problems with:
- Icons above NPCs
- Torpedoes
- Mortar cannon projectiles
- Shield generator shields: it's just one complete blue haze, can barely see anything through em.
- and probably more than I haven't bothered to check.
I haven't changed any graphics settings, theyre set to the high with the sliders, then shadows set to low afterwards as that would always cause massive frame drops for me.
