Direct3D 11 Question

maxwilsonmaxwilson Member Posts: 61 Arc User
I'm getting the message every time I launch that Direct X will no longer be supported after March. How do I check to see if I'm updated to the newest version? I know it's a windows update. My system is all new, except I'm on 7 Ultimate. Or is there a windows update I can just update and do it, or is this message being shown to everyone and I may not even have to worry about it?

    You can run dxdiag (windows key + R, then type dxdiag and hit Ok) and it'll show you which version of directx you're running.

    This message in the launcher will not appear if you are running dx11, so if you see it you won't be able to play STO past March 1st unless you update your machine's directx to 11 or better.

    This also applies to winxp users, although they have to upgrade to a minimum of Vista or 7 I believe.

    Edit: changed "run" to "Ok" because that's what the dialog box says.

    Open a command prompt and run dxdiag. The last entry on the system tab (default) tells you your comupters current DX version.

    As for the prompt when you launch the game. I personally have not seen that prompt since I deleted the DX9 command switch from the launcher options and set my in game options to DX11.
    LTS and loving it.

    Software specs are irrevelant, pretty much any Windows 7 system is already at DirectX 11, regardless of the processing device. What mattes is the hardware capability - it will not run on DX9-only devices, and I am pesonally not sure there is any DX10 renderer hooked up along DX11 (which means such cards as Geforce 8 and ATI HD 3000/4000 will be non-capable). In your case your GPU should be exceeding or matching the following specs:

    Nvidia: GTX400 series or newer;
    AMD: HD5000 series or AMD K8 APU, or newer;
    Intel: HD4000/2500 (Ivy Bridge), or newer.

    Correction here steelmax, the dev post/blog on this noted that the amd hd 3k/4k will work as long as they support 10.0 features

    however if you can afford it an upgrade to a dx 11 or better card and one with atleast 2 gigs of video ram.

    Oh, even better, meaning they will have the DX10 backend. So, any ancient junk from 2008 onwards will still be able to run the game, although I have my doubts for tessellation and the new lighting.

    Si tienes los drivers de la tarjeta de video actualizados y el juego no quiere fincionar, trata "Safe Mode" en las opciones en el "launcher". So eso no funciona, quizas podiras reinstalar el juego.

    No se de que pais eres, pero se que fuera de EEUU hay muchas copias de Windows ilegales corriendo y causan problemas.

    GTX 260 (Dell OEM crappy version) here, after getting the message and switching to Dx11 I can no longer see, or have problems with:
    - Icons above NPCs
    - Torpedoes
    - Mortar cannon projectiles
    - Shield generator shields: it's just one complete blue haze, can barely see anything through em.
    - and probably more than I haven't bothered to check.

    I haven't changed any graphics settings, theyre set to the high with the sliders, then shadows set to low afterwards as that would always cause massive frame drops for me.
