Specialization points

I have maxed out all my Specialization requirements, Pilot, Intelligence officer etc and am still earning Specialization points which are sitting there unable to be used. I currently have 6. I read somewhere that any new ones are converted to Dilithium - can anyone tell me at what point - or do the 6 that I already have keep going up relentlessly?.

When did you max out all your specializations and when did you gain those 6 points?

I have earned 22 extra specialization points (after competing all specializations) that are sitting unused, but now when I level up I get nothing.

I maxed them out about 10 days ago and have been accumulating specialization points since.

Hmmm, strange, they should stop being earned once every single specialization is fully slotted. They used to keep stacking but they fixed it twice.

Which platform do you play on? And which faction?

Very weird @garaks31. I can't earn any over 22. I've leveled up countless times, but I don't earn anymore points.

PC - Fed. Reading some other replies it would appear that I am not alone.

How do you earn them? And is it always the same method?

I was under the impression that accumulating specialization points after all the specializations were maxed was no longer possible sometime after AoY came out. I noticed a few months ago that completing the fed admiralty tour of duties was no longer banking points to those of my characters that were maxed and instead I was getting the 5kish dilithium ore conversion. Since the kdf tour of duties reward 30k I just stopped looking at the fed projects and focus of the kdf/rommie campaigns. As to how many points I had banked, two characters have 28 spec points banked, one has 24, and the last has 18 - no consistent endpoint it seems.

My time recruit only recently maxed out his specializations (0 banked) and as an experiment I'm going to do the fed tour of duty one more time to see if he will start banking points, but I suspect he won't so I'm not putting too much effort into the experiment.

EDIT: As to the 28, 24, & 18 points banked. I think those are just the points I had when Cryptic fixed/changed being able to bank the points.

I've not noticed any dilithium gain after leveling. I'll double check next time.

Did you slot EVERY single spec point, for sure? As in all 30 of them in Intelligence, Command, Pilot, Temporal and all 15 of Strategist and Commando.

I have all my specializations maxed out. Then I reached 22 extra points and stopped earning points. Odd eh?

You gain 2,880 dil when you complete a bar of XP after having maxed the specializations out now.
Twice, the devs made it so you couldn't hoard points anymore. They did it once but a patch undid it, allowing you to gain more points, then AoY put an end to this. Those you've earned in excess don't vanish, though.

It's not a whole heck of a lot, only around 2.8k per point, so it's pretty easy to miss.

@saurializard ahh thx good to know. I personally don't mind the extra spec points as I can nearly fill up any new spec when it's added. ;-)

    I definitely agree.
I managed to grab 27 for my main before it was blocked again and my UFP Admirality tour of duty is ready for the last assignment that grants 2. So I'm all set for the next specialization.

Same here. Except every once in a while, the issue of clicking on a tab and not having the screen update to the proper campaign and seeing a tour of duty assignment to complete throws me off and I have to start from square one. I've accidently done quite a few federation tours since noticing the points no longer bank. Not a huge loss, still worth some dilithium, but they were some of those 'arghhh' moments.

My Temporal Recruit went immediately to 2,880 Dilithium after all Spec Trees were filled. Another Character that had all maxed and then maxed Temporal Tree the day that released accumulates and is up to 16.

Before the post-AoY Patch Spec Points earned from the Federation Admiralty 10 of 10, C-Store Giveaways, and Weekly Featured Episode choice Spec Points could be accumulated past max. Spec Points earned by completing a Level Bar were just lost. Supposedly after the Patch, the items listed above would not and would automatically provide the Dilithium.

They started out providing Dilithium when max was reached. Then after the 'infamous' Japori Incident ('In-famous is when you're MORE than famous') Geko, got rid of the Dilithium on overage. When the vaunted Metrics©® showed people were maxing out new Spec Trees in a day, he would have none of that and Dilithium is back. I don't know what the original pre-Japori Dilithium reward was, but now that Dilithium is 'falling from the sky', and all the really really big Dilithium rewards are exempted from Dilithium Weekend Bonuses, it is back.

Something, however, seems to be not working out as intended.
