Request to change Photonic Fleet to a confuse effect no damge

Photonic Fleet should work like the TNG episode Peak Performance where they created a short term confuse effect. Having thanky holo ships that can shoot and do a small amount of damage is too silly and too unrealistic. Where are these holo ships getting power to fire weapons from, how are they firing torps? How do they have shields and hull points. It's just too dumb to think you can make ships appear like magic and fight for you, why not use a billion holo ships for every battle if they can do that. If they changed Photonic Fleet to a short term confuse effect where the ships didn't do any damage but confused the enemy it would be much more realistic and more in line with trek cannon. Have them so they confuse and are gone after they have been each hit once, confuse effect lasts until the trimmer runs out or all of the holo ships have been hit by a weapon. Ideally it would work as a confuse effect that last for 5 seconds or so in combat.

From a game balance perspective, it seems like a pretty bad idea. Considering how powerful tactical abilities are by comparison. If it were changed into a pure confuse ability, then it should definitely last longer than 5 seconds since that would make it virtually worthless.

Photonic Fleet is originally from a Voyager episode.

    BTW, confuse effects are useless.

Another idea for changing it would be to make it based on firing probes that create the photonic images. The idea is that these probes are also like aceton assimilators that drain power when the photonic ships are fired upon by the enemy instead of generating damage.

Sounds like someone is bitter about photonic fleet diluting his/her all-important BFAW spamming for DPS.

You'd have more of a case to argue if you faulted the ability of Feedback Pulse to return more than 100% of incoming damage. That's just ridiculous and indefensible.

    nope. wrong

Well, that was in no wise clear. Are you responding to both assertions? Or just one--in which case, which one?

What have you got against Science captains, anyway? Without Photonic Fleet coupled with Gravity Well, Sci captains would have a heck of a time soloing when it was required. How is this any less realistic than being able to repair a teammate's ship with (apparently) little more than moonbeams and happy thoughts by clicking on Engineering Team?

I'm pretty sure every Crowd Control archetype in every RPG ever has an "illusory foes that cause damage" power, and this is just the STO version.

Robbing Science captains of damage to suit your particular interpretation of C-A-N-O-N is not good for archetype balance in the game. Their non-tactical abilities are there for a reason.

    Agreed as well.

Don't assume that if it doesnt work for you.. it does not for others. My SCI and my ENG LOVED it and if used "properly" they can do heavy damage.

But both these things are not coming out of thin air and is supported by common sense within the universe, photonic fleet was done in voyager and in the shows it is shown that they can make holograms solid and able to do damage, and fleet support is simply sending out a distress call to a nearby ship (because we aren't the only ship in the fleet). Therefore both of these are possible within the universe and in my personal opinion not stupid, just my two cents.

Sorry OP, but your suggestion would just gimp Science and cater to the mentality of BFAW is God.

Scenario: Tac vs Sci with proposed change.

    Science: Pops Photo Fleet
Tac: Hits BFAW, nukes Photo Fleet INSTANTLY

Ok, change it to a confuse-like effect based around not knowing which target is real (which is what I'm assuming you were getting at), and watch my B:FaW hit you anyway ... it really would be pointless. I'm all for realism, but there are times in games when fun > realistic

AS a science officer myself I just want to say youre using the most useless trait in the game.
I'll make sure to add that to my captain's log and take it under consideration.
