Tech Upgrade Glitch?

I've been getting very sporadic results with this...

Sometimes, it works, and upgrades the item, but most times, it just says something like 'no upgrade slotted', but it deletes the upgrade icon from the inventory and takes the 700 dilithium... The other day, it did it when I tried to use the Ultra Rare upgrade token from Echoes of Light...

I find that I can get one upgrade per log on. Subsequent attempts just don't work, but if I close the game and re-load it, it seems to work again... Is it just me, ir is this hapoening to other folk too?

An 'Upgrade' token applies XP, not an actual upgrade. So you will eventually use multiple to go up 1 level. Once the Upgrade is used, it will disappear. Once you have reached the required XP to actually upgrade the item, it will highlight the option!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Please clarify OP: what are you upgrading and what Mk level is it at now? One weapon at mk XIII will need I think 120,000 upgrade XP to get to XIV. So on average, TEN of the Superior Upgrade tokens or 18 of the Improved upgrade tokens, or 35 of the basic upgrade tokens. And you pay dilithium on each token.

Yeah...I think this sounds like you believe that just one upgrade "token" is all you need to get to the next level. If so, you misunderstand how this works.

It takes many upgrades to move up to the next level once you pass mk vi or so. You should expect to use many many upgrades and dilithium, while potentially getting to the next mk level but not getting a quality upgrade. Quality upgrades are not guaranteed until mk xiv, and even then the guarantee takes a lot of upgrades to achieve.

It just did it again... First it said 'no upgrade slotted', then it upgraded the item, then it said 'no upgrade slotted'... Does it alternate between XP and upping the level?

If it takes multiple tokens to get to the next level, I'm fine with that, so long as it is actually Doing Something... What has been happening (or rather not) is that it's giving the 700 d price, I click, it's Then saying 'no upgrade slotted', taking the d, but not upgrading the item (be it shields, console, torpedos etc...) I'm happy to spend as much d, and ec on the tokens as is required, so long as it is actually Making An Upgrade to the item each time, not just glitching and taking the d, but leaving the item as before... Next time, look at the text for the item. It should tell you how many points are left over from the last upgrade, and how many more points are needed. Like: 700 / 30,000

Then apply your upgrade and watch the 700 number change, even though "nothing happens."

It's just like you leveling up your character in STO and most other games. You do 4 quests, "nothing happens" (+100 XP, + 150 XP, +200 XP, +150 XP). Then you do one more quest and you level up. The first 4 quests were not defective :)

Thanks for the suggestion, and yeah, that makes sense as Levelling Up, rather than Pure Upgrade, which was what I'd thought the upgrade tokens represented B)

Most of my ship and character items are mk12. I'm waiting for an upgrade bonus weekend to take ship stuff to mk14. It's way too expensive in regards to both upgrade tokens and dilithium.

Having your weapons do 6-10 times as much damage is not "way too expensive". you're paying a one time fee to murder any and all challenge the game might offer in its sleep.

This is what I'm thinking... I have responsibilities, and I have to budget, but if I can cost it all out and spare the cash, I'd willingly pay out for the Z for the D to make those upgrades all possible... B) Everyone's budget is different, and I wouldn't want to embarass people who might be on a tighter budget and who can't necessarily just drop cash to buy the immediate PewPew... Personally, I'm happy to build the weapons up gradually through grinding, but equally, I can understand those who might rather 'have it now' and thus pay for the privilege B)

I was hoping I was coming in here to read about some kinda exploit that would take forever to get patch approved on console.

To get my rep gear from Mk XIII UR to MK XIV Epic, I've been tracking how much dil and upgrade kits each time. On average it's been taking around 100 upgrade kits and about 100K dil. This is all RNG based, mind you, so that can swing largely in your favor or against you at times.

EDIT: That's from using Superior Upgrade Kits BTW. Also, I find the experimental kits are not really worth it unless you already have a bunch of Salvaged Tech laying around.

So about 240-250 Zen to just buy the dil? Hmmmm... This is looking like a possibility...
