I log in for around one minute and can run around and do everything in the game, then the screen goes black and I can hear the music and sound. It always happens every time I attempt to log in.Walk around in Earth Spacedock and blackscreen after one minute and the game is running, only I can't see anything.I look in task manager and the game is still running. This problem only started after the new graphics update.

I had the idea of perhaps being able to revert the changes or disable the K13 patch that caused the problem to begin with.
On my desktop STO runs fine. I also have a modern laptop with a i5 and Intel HD 5500 graphics. That struggled to start STO and had a problem similar to yours.
What I did:
Start the game in safe mode, and then set the settings under Display, Video card to use "Direct 3D 9" Also Directx 9 instead of 11. Also change all the graphics settings to low, change to fullscreen and your native (desktop) resolution.
Restart the game, worked for me.

If this does not work, you could try going to your game folder.
For example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online\Live\localdata
And in that localdata folder you will find two files "Fxprefs.Pref" and "Gameprefs.Pref"
Delete those two and restart the game, again. Start the game in safe mode. These two files contain all the settings for STO. When you delete them the game will revert to default. As if you just re-installed the game.
Start it if in safe mode.
Warning: Deleting these two files will delete all your ingame settings, such as audio settings, visual settings and general game settings such as "auto hails" and stuff. It will NOT delete account bind settings such as HUD placement and keybinds.
you can also add the following command line on the options tab of the launcher -d3d11enable 0 -d3d9
to do this open the launcher, choose options from the tabs/options topright of window, scroll to bottom and copy/paste the above command into the cli box. This will ensure that the launcher starts the game under dx9 every time you launch.
As far as I can tell, it may have something to do with a Federation graphical asset (possibly ship-related). After the first couple times crashing out of my main (who had been on ESD and kinda worked a bit, though much more poorly near the shipyards), I tried playing on KDF and Romulan characters, which worked just fine. The only issues I had on those factions began when I took a Fed-aligned Rom to ESD, at which point I started having the same kind of issues as my main. I managed to escape Sol with both this Romulan and--after a couple reloads--my main, after which, in sector space, even my main worked fine. That is until I arrived outside DS9 (still in sector), and crashed again in the same manner.
The locality of these events suggest to me a Federation ship-asset graphical issue, as it would account for all the trouble spots I've experienced--inside ESD (Ship X on display in the shipyard?), outside ESD (at some camera angles, perhaps in which I could see Ship X?), and sector space by DS9 (where a player with Ship X may have been parked). This is my best conclusion for my case to which I could arrive, given the limited data I've collected and my limited motivation to continue investigating.
Anyone else tried similar things? Are these crashes only on particular factions or in particular areas?
