The New Sovereign Class Model

thomaselkinsthomaselkins Member Posts: 575 Arc User
Lots of pics of the new model here and she's looking pretty good. My only complaint is that the shuttlebay area is based on the First Contact and Insurrection variant. Personally I prefer the look of the Nemesis variant, which has arches come off the back of the saucer and blend in with the secondary hull. It forms a cup around the shuttlebay area that I always liked. It makes it look sleek. You can see the nacelle pylons on the new model are based on the Nemesis version, so why not the area around the shuttlebay too? They even added the torpedo launchers above the shuttlebay. Just look at the way John Eaves paints her. She needs those arches, IMO.

139-1.jpg

Also, minor nitpick: the new model has too many forward torpedo launchers. There should be one Quantum launcher and two Photon launchers on the bottom. The aft launchers are correct, although the two above the shuttlebay lack red lights.

Quick Edit: The shuttlebay also has nine little doors, while the real ship has six little doors and one big door. You can see that in both Insurrection and Nemesis when they launch shuttles.

I saw the tweets yesterday and oooh yes they certainly raised a few red flags in my head -- I'm smelling a T6 refit coming  And maybe a bundled package? Here's hoping. ^^

Anyway, I'm glad that the Sovie gets her own facelift as well

And with the lighting updates coming to PC as well... EYECANDY XD

I just hope the T6 sovie being released in Nov is not the only one. I hope they have one Version in the C store at least. Im still going to track down the Nov limited release one anyway.

With that paragraph, I'm going to assume it's getting a C-store release as well as the freebie.

If not, there will probably be a few unhappy people for a while.

I usually care more for primarily tactical ships or at least secondary tactical engineer ships with my main tac toon, but I am very fond of the Assault Cruiser and I stupidly picked engineer ships when I first started playing this game up until the last free ship where I picked Assault Cruiser (eventually buying a default T5 Advanced Escort and moving on to actual tacical T6 ships starting with a Mercury tactical pilot ship). I am still looking forward to the T6 variant of the Assault Cruiser.

Wait, so I have to find a brick and mortar store that has it in stock and go in person to get it?? FFS this is the 21st century man ... only time I ever go to a store anymore is to get groceries or medicine ... this is beyond annoying

I notice that when I use any hull other than that of the Sovereign on Tribble, some of hte "decals" seem to be flying mid-air.

I highly doubt they are going to release this as a WizKids perk.

Just like a lot of people thought the same about the T6 TOS Connie coming in a R&D promo box. The MU Guardian has never been put in the C-Store to purchase, which is a shame, and you still can't purchase the Ambassador either.

I have to say I'd be extremely surprised if this were not case - a lot of work has clearly gone into the Sovereign revamp - combined with the fact that this is one of the franchise's hero ships we're discussing I find it very difficult to beleive that they wouldn't capitalise on that.

At least they make that easy they have a spot on the web page where you type in your zipcode and it tells you where the closest stores are.

I do not put much stock into the digital renders as I have seen Hi Rez shots of the actual physical model and the Enterrpise E studio model is breath taking in detail. The renders do not do it justice.

You'd think someone so adept at the interwebs would have heard of ordering online by now...

Or do you imagine they have a ****ing spy satellite watching your every movement? "We just had another code entered in... Oh, wait. Oh, no, he didn't go to a store, we're not taking his code entered through the webstite like everyone else who bought one. Nope, nope, nope!"

The message I quoted said that to get it players need to "physically [purchase] the expansion at their local game stores", this wording would seem to explicitly imply that online ordering won't work somehow, which is what I was referring to and what has me rather pissed off.

Do I think they have a satellite following my every move? Hell no, I'm not paranoid like that. However, I could easily see a situation where online retailers are not provided with the codes, if that is the intention as implied.

They are referring to purchasing from a brick and mortar store, many of which have an online presence in the form of a shop that you can order from online, yet you still are purchasing from a brick and mortar store, filling that criteria.

I second that. Come on Cryptic peepz, you already have high quality Galaxy saucer, engineering section and warp nacelles! All you need to do is stick them together and replace the old Nebula model :p

Damn straight!!! She was long overdue to be pushed to the Nemisis styling and also I am sincerly hoping she goes the T6 route and gets hanger bays too equiped with the ARGO and the actually nemisis sov bridge..Then I'd be happy to pump whatever $$$ they want for it as long its not a ridiculous amount..

It's a lovely model, no doubt about that at all, but still not sold - I prefer the Nemesis version.

Although I'm not convinced I would purchase that variant either - mostly because if I were going to buy a revamped Sovereign I'd rather wait and see if one with a more interesting hybrid BOFF layout appears in the C-store, but also because I'm sick of the over-emphasis on cruisers of late.

Outside of the nacelle position and the walls flanking the saucer shuttle bay, the model is pretty much the nemesis version, several of the additional torpedo launchers are present on the model (particularity the ones above the airlock on deck 3 the the pairs on the ventral fore and ventral aft of the engineering hull).

What astounds me... is that they do so good on the model and the mess up the tiny details:

The port nacelle is missing its blue trail (honestly if we could get rid of ALL the trails that would be amazing, but if not lets re add the trail to the port nacelle)

and the port nacelle running light (the flashing on, right behind the bussard collector) has taken a vacation from the ship and is floating off in space

    Yes to both.

It's being 'revamped' and will be a T6 ship with command hybrid BOFF seating, although it will only be available via the promotion advertised on the STO website homepage.

Speculation is that they may well produce a C-store model with an alternative hybrid BOFF though (would be very surprised if they didn't as this particular ship is a guaranteed cash-cow).

Your forgetting cryptics "exclusive" TRIBBLE they doing now with ships :/

Not really; if they produced a C-store version with a different hybrid specialisation to the promotional one, the promtional one would still be unique.

Again, it's much the same as they did with the Guardian; the Mirror Guardian was exclusive to the charity event that it was offerred in, and is unique in that it has Command hybrid as oposed the the C-store version, which is Intel.

I sure hope your right would like to get my hands on a T6 sovie myself, but until they make an official statement i wont get my hopes up :)

I hope so too, for the sake of all those who want the ship.

Again - it is only speculation, but honestly - I really don't beleive that they won't produce a C-store variant. I mean, look at it this way:
A: The Sovereign class is one of the most popular ships in the franchise
    B: It's a hero ship
C: A lot of time and effort has clearly gone into improving the in-game model.

In the case of 'A' - I, personally, still see plenty of Sovereign class ships around in-game.
In the case of 'B' - it was an Enterprise
In the case of 'C' - whilst debatable, I don't beleive that they'd put that much time and effort into remodelling a ship only to limit it to a promotion. I'm convinced we'll see a C-store version with a different hybrid.

I have a feeling that if the C-Store variant comes with any existing spec, it would probably be pilot, with a Lt. Temporal seat. Just my $0.02.

Or they could turn 'Strategist' into a full specialisation and give it a hybrid Strategist BOFF ;)

While there is precedent for that to happen, I'm hoping for a Pilot cruiser. The Sov will be one of the best candidates for that due to how much more agile the ship is when you compare it to other large-sized cruiser-type vessels of it's era; while it isn't a battlecruiser, it's the next best thing to one when you consider the size of the armament.

I've a feeling* that, if it is a Pilot vessel, the Metreon Gas Canisters and Wide-Angle Quantum Torpedo Launcher will form a 2-pc set bonus due to them being able to fitted onto other ships. The ship itself will have either a console will improve the speed of the ship/weapon firing cycles, or a rapid-fire/cluster quantum torpedo launcher.

    *
All of that is purely speculation, I have as much clue about what ship it will be as the next man.

Unless that man is one of the design team.

I think the PIlot specialization has been specific to escort type ships and not cruisers, so I don't think the T6 Sovereign will get that specialization (I agree, the Sovereign would make the best candidate for the Pilot specialization, though).
And the Strategist specialization-although makes sense-won't be made as a primary specialization so we're not likely to see that either on a T6 Sovereign.
The Sovereign I don't think would fit into the Temporal specialization either, so we're not likely to see a Temporal T6 Sovereign.
As the Attack Wing expansion ship looks to be Command, I think we're left to assume that the C-Store T6 Sovereign will have the Intel specialization. Also, all Hero cruiser ships so far have been given 2x Lt.CMD boff seats, which means either the Lt ENG or Lt UNIV will be upgraded to Lt.CMD and then likely also given the Intel hybrid seating.

My thoughts: Lt.Cmd TAC, Ens TAC, Cmd ENG, Lt ENG, Lt.Cmd UNIV/INT for the C-Store T6 Sovereign

EDIT: I suppose they could also make the hybrid seating on the Lt ENG seat too...

EDIT2: (as this is under the "Art of..." subforum) I can't wait to see more art/screenshots of the new T6 Sovereign!
