console player, question about bridge officer promotion. Does promoting a bridge officer give them any benefits? I realise it gives them access to skills they do not already have, via learning books. But if they already have the skills you want selectable on their console, is there any point in promoting them?

    Default boff (bridge officer) skills are not unlocked by default. In order to use your bridge officer's better skills, you must promote the bridge officer first.

    Also bear in mind that you have to have a ship that has slots for those abilities in order to use them.

    The only reasons to promote them to highest level is so they can use available training, all the way to Commander level. However, if a BOFF is only going to be using tier 1/2 abilities (ie LT, LT-CM), then they only need to be promoted to the appropriate level in order to use those abilities.

    Hey folks, apologies... I'm not sure how to promote my bridge officers. They are all still cadets. I'm going to assume it's something simple... My rank is Captain. Just started playing a week ago. I appreciate your help. Thanks

    On any character, go over to the Career tab (RT on XB1), and below you'll see options to Promote and Dismiss.

    [Xbox] In the menu, select :
    - Ship & Crew
    - Select the Bridge Officer by highlighting them with left thumbstick and pressing A
    - Use Right Trigger to go to the Career tab.
    - Lower left corner is a button that allows you to Promote the BOFF. Lower right corner is a button that allows you to Dismiss the BOFF.

    Doesn't promoting also allow them to use better weapons in ground combat?

    The Liniting factor is your captains rank. You cant give them a weapon you can not use. but if you can use mk xiv then so can your boff.

    Yes. Since their highest level is Commander, they ca use up to MK VI gear/weps. Sorry, should have mentioned this is my original post.

    Abilities aside I would suspect ranking up your bridge officers does make them a bit better. My logic is that on your rotary menu auto trigger settings you can set them to LT or higher, Cmd or higher etc. I am meerly speculating.
