Next Infinity Lockbox

ltminnsltminns Member Posts: 12,572 Arc User
Starting this Thursday and running until the 25th, the updated version of the Infinity Lockbox will be dropping:

http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10199593-infinity-lock-box

As expected this includes the contents of the Na'kuhl Lockbox. Unexpected, however, was that all the new T6 Versions of the Cardassian and Dominion Ships that were released to the Consolesare included.

Fun times ahead.

That would probably been the only way for them to get on the PC since the Dominion-Cardassian Lockbox is a Console Exclusive.
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

Putting them in the infinity box is great, it will mean a glut of them on the market that drives the EC price down as people claim more of them than any other ships. I'd expect them to be pretty cheap (relatively vs other T6 options) by the time the week after the Infinity event is over.

    Nice!

Remember: if all you want is a ship, SELL KEYS FOR EC. You should be able to get the ship with 100% success for $20-60 worth of keys depending on rare vs. super-rare. If you open boxes with keys you can easily spend $200 and get NO SHIP.

This. Only open boxes if you are going to be happy with the lesser prizes you will be getting, because you are going to get a LOT of them, and most likely no grand prizes. Luckily, the Infinity box gives you a lot more control over what you will be getting from said lesser prizes, so it's more likely worth your while than opening a regular box.

Guessing for anyone not too fussy about it being T6, the T5 versions of these ships should drop in price as well since they are being obsoleted by newer versions.
So that could be nice for people who've wanted one for a long time but can't afford the 100M EC or so needed.

Let us hope that the "getting a T5 instead of a T6" fiasco that happened on the console is on repeated on the PC.

And notice that the Jem’Hadar Dreadnought Carrier is in the box and not the Lobi Store where its T5 brother lives.

Also note this statement from the News Blog: ' Each of these new vessels will be replacing their Tier-5 counterparts in the contents of the Infinity Lock Box. When the implications of that settles in to the Ferengi, you may find the prices going up on the T5s.

The T5's will probably raise in price since they will no longer drop once the new infinity box is in place.

I doubt the T6 Dreadnought Carrier will be in the box itself, but replace the T5 Version in the Lobi Store. Since Lobi is the most expensive currency in the game, it makes more sense for them to simply replace it and charge the extra 100 lobi that T6's cost.

I would like to thank you both for telling me what to do with my money and/or ec. It's great to know there are people out there who care enough to take the time to make up my mind for me. I just don't know how I would get along in life without people like you telling me what to do and how to do it. Thank you. Now, if only someone would tell me what I want for dinner tonight I'll be all set.

The Galor's price went up 50% as soon as the announcement hit. The escort carrier is hot on its heels. I would also expect this means the old lockboxes that contain T5 ships are now worth something again.

What the announcement doesn't say is if the T5 dreadnought will also be removed from the lobi store.

I don't really agree with removing the T5's. But I'm happy to make a profit off them if they're going to become collector's items.

Next, we should expect at least a few begging threads to appear as people who own the T5's want the "upgrade" for free/on discount.

So what would happen if everyone took your advice and no-one opened 1 box. Result:- No one gets a ship.

I've been a lucky old soul and won plenty of ships from Lockboxes without spending the £100's that some claim. In fact I've probably only spent about £100 on keys in the near 6 years I've been playing.

It sounds like you want to push up the EC value of ships just so the few can benefit from all that EC that inflated prices will bring in.

At the end of the day. The best advice isn't to just sell keys for EC and hope that someone doesn't rip them off EC wise, but it's buy keys in moderation, open a few boxes, sell the rest.

    No.

What works well is the people willing to open thousands of lock boxes to sell the contents.

If you open 100 lockboxes you'll get an average of 0 ships (since 0.4 is not a ship).

If you open 1,000 lock boxes you'll get an average of 4 ships to sell, plus the space & ground gear, traits, plasmonic leeches, etc. and enough lobi for 4-5 lobi ships to sell.

If you look at the odds and the prices on the exchange, the ships are generally lower than the expected cost of getting a ship not "inflated," because the bulk openers take into account all of the other things they'll sell including lobi ships.

The odds of opening 100 boxes and getting NO ship is 0.996 ^ 100 = 66.98%. That is, two thirds of all people who open 100 boxes get no ship.

The boxes are like lottery ticket with lobi thrown in.

If you buy lottery tickets for the dream of wining big, then go ahead and open a few boxes instead since you'll at least get the lobi and some mini R&D packs or 1,000 XP boosts. Woohoo!

If you want a ship, then sell keys for EC.

The odds of getting a ship when opening each of those 100 boxes is the same as when opening one box, actually. Each box has the same odds as the last one, as there is neither pool size reduction nor cumulative gain when opening more. This isn't a lottery, buying more tickets does not improve your chances of winning.

There are, of course, people who will jump in and point out if you buy enough of them eventually you will get a ship, but in order for that to be statistically valid you are looking at several orders of magnitude over what anyone would be willing to pay.

True, but there is a simple formula to calculate the probability of getting no ship given N boxes, before you open any of them.

This works for NO ships because it is a dependent probability -- you must fail for every single roll of the dice.

    It's what I listed (p) ^ N.

In the announcement it says that the T5 versions will be upgraded with the box. Wondering if this will just affect infinity boxes or if it will also effect the original box and/or existing prizes of the T5 ships.

Do we know if the T5 JHAS ship unlocks the pets for the T6 JHDC? . . . Never mind I had to re-read it.

    Jem’Hadar Attack Ship

These frigates are unlocked in their stores listed below as long as you own one of the following: Jem’Hadar Attack Ship, Jem’Hadar Recon Ship [T6] or Jem’Hadar Strike Ship [T6] and one of the following: Jem’Hadar Dreadnought Carrier, Jem’Hadar Dreadnought Carrier [T6], Jem’Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier or Jem’Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier [T6].

Sounds like pets are available on the JHECs . . . did they overlook this or is it like the Quas and the Raider?

It has one hangar bay, like other HECs. Is that what you're asking?

I know that HECs have a single hanger bay, but it sounds like it can launch bug frigates.

No, the boxes are like trading card packs. There's the occasional rare and a whole lot of commons. But there's always something.

My favorite thing from the lockboxes is the R & D material, perhaps eventually the Lobi crystals (not accumulated enough yet to have made any use of). I've long known that lockboxes are little more than carrots dangling out there enticing folks to keep buying keys to gain access.

For myself after amassing at least twenty or thirty, I might open a third just to see what pops. Buying keys just to sell them on the exchange seems pointless for the main game, and to me is only for those whose focus is more on the PvP stuff!

I'm just here to enjoy the game, not going to dump mountains of money into the system for little to no gain. Ever.

But if you want to gamble you should open the boxes. Nothing beats that great moment, Yes, Yes, Yes !!!!!, I have it.

I have opened perhaps 60 boxes, I don't know exactly. Perhaps it was more, but certainly no more than 90. I have the Galor, the Wells and the Korath. I quess I am a lucky SoaB. Anyway, I don't play them anymore. I bought the 31th century pack and there is a good T6 science ship in it with a similar design.

The Galor came from a purple box. It began with green boxes and rarer purple ones. I opened about 20 green ones and there was just rubbish in it. You could win a set of 10 large hypos. The puple ones had a higher change of giving a golden prize and I was lucky.

I am not going to open those boxes anymore. My main problem is that the ship is only useable on one character. Most likely it costs you more than a ship from the store and it gives less.

Cool. Glad I saved my Zen this past weekend, and didn't buy the Temporal ship bundle.

Gonna keep saving as much as I can in-game until the 25th. Then snag some good deals :)

It's a shame they're retiring the Galor. It would have made a nice runner-up prize.

I own the T5 JHEC, JHAS, JHDC, T6 JHSS. The JHAS hangar units are restricted only for the JHDC.
