A few more canon abilities?

I know that Cryptic keep developing new ships with new abilities, but I was wondering if we could have a few upgraded to the existing ships we have?

With the Pathfinder/Intrepid, I've always loved the nacelle animation when the ship goes into warp, but unfortunately the cut-screens almost always have that off the screen so you never see it. I was wondering if the ship could have a new console or abilities...releasing a plasma burst. The engines raise, while standing still, a charge builds and the ship emits heat that damages nearby foes, like in "Learning Curve".

I've never understood why the Defiant has a basic cloak...in DS9, it was firing its phasers and cloaking literally a second later. It was a Romulan cloaking device after all and it never made sense that it wouldn't be a battle cloak.

There are probably a lot more things that these ships could do and I'd be happy if they were C-Store buys or unlocks for a ship, but I'd just love something new to do in my favourites, other than just focus on making them DPS builds :-(

There is no such thing as a "battle cloak" in canon.

The whole "can't use item X in combat" state restriction on certain things is only a game mechanic.

Well, unless I'm very much mistaken...of course there is. The Battle Cloak is the one you don't have to wait until "Red Alert" ends to use. We saw it time and again in DS9 and Voyager...the Defiant leaving in "A Call To Arms", firing its phasers and going. The same with the Bird Of Prey Next to it. In Voyager, the D7 firing and then cloaking, firing then cloaking, etc. They might have been branded by STO as regular and battle, but they're definitely canon.

I personally would like a cloak to be a cloak, otherwise it's pretty useless.

I'd like an Ensign cannon ability. Hell maybe something like beam overload but for cannons.

Yeah no... they aren't canon, all cloaks work the same and can be used at any time.
Its simply just not advantageous to always do so due to the nagging little side effect of shields dropping.

In fact the Scimitar was a singularly unique ship in that it was such a powerhouse it could maintain both a cloak and weapons and shields simultaneously.

Of course there isn't, because on TV "Red Alert" is a signal for crew readiness, not a magical curse that disables half the ship when there's fighting going on. Therefore there obviously isn't any need for a magical curse-proof cloak that doesn't get disabled by it.

It's not a "magical curse"... it's transferring power from non-combat systems to combat systems.

I must be playing a different game as you guys, because on the screen and when it's flashing "red alert" at the top, I can't cloak in some ships.

Yeah, not all ship have battle cloak, some are inferior cloaks.

And there's your problem: What is in-game is not canon.

Doesnt the defiant get a battle cloak with the 3pc?
  • dareaudareau Member Posts: 2,390 Arc User
The "Defiant" set (quad cannons, cloak console, whatever the Valiant has) can improve the cloaking console to battlecloak levels...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Oh, so where's my option to not do that, then?
