Newbie Rom/Fed ship question

So I am playing as a tac Romulan and have just sided with the Federation and so have gotten access to their ships. I am kinda torn between the escort refit and the dhael warbird. Your thoughts? Any advice? Or would I be better off looking at cruisers?

You will only be able to use Fed ships up to tier 4, not endgame tier 5 / 6.

I'd suggest playing your Romulan as a Romulan, flying Romulan ships. If you don't enjoy singularity ships you might want to park this character as soon as you finish the faction story arc and then create a Fed or KDF.

agreed. no point in not playing a rom as a rom. besides warbirds are pretty fun.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

In addition, I would suggest not buying Zen ships (of either faction) until you reach Tier 6 (endgame) ships - because you'll out-grow the lower ones.

Don't throw away old ships though, since you can't reclaim the free ones. Consoles will eventually get the Admiralty system where you get a ship card for each ship that you currently own (not ones you've discharged).

Somewhat related question. Will there be adequate ships available from t5 to t6 when I get to that point. What I mean is can I obtain good ships at that level without using real money. I assume once I'm at that point i'll need to start collecting tons of ref dilithium for ship purchases later on but I would like to know whether or not its possible to play at the same level with those who have purchased the best ships with real money, ya know?

Just so its known, I'm currently level 31 or 32 romulan commander and just received the arkif warbird. Chose arkif cause I heard the d'deridex, while one of my favorites from the series' was like flying a huge brick with a horrible turn rate.

You get your last free ship at lvl 40. You can manage anything in the game with that one with the right gear/build. Anything beyond that will require a lot of EC, tons of dilithium converted to Zen, real money, or the next event with a ship giveaway.
    LTS and loving it.

The mirror T'varo and mirror Mogai are potent ships as well

The last free ship you will get when leveling up is a T5 ship once you reach level 40. After that there are no more free ships. Having said that, Cryptic does give players a chance to grind for a free T6 ship in the game 3 times a year. There's the STO Anniversary Event in early February. Then there is the Risan Summer Event which starts around mid-June. Lastly, there is the Winter Wonderland Event which takes place in early December.

Each events gives you the opportunity to grind for a specific T6 ship designed for the event. The free ship may not be exactly the type of ship you want to fly, but it is a T6 ship. The grind basically takes around 5 to 15 minutes to complete depending on the event. Generally speaking you need to grind for 25 days to the necessary 1,000 vouchers to claim a starship. The Anniversary Event only requires you to grind 15 days because there is a featured mission that will reward you with 400 vouchers the first you play it. Event ships are account unlocked meaning if you have multiple captains, you only need to grind on one of them to claim and unlock the ship for your account. All current and future captains will have access to that ship.
