Have to say loved it so far :)

I`m on the X1 but there does not appear to be any separate forums as yet? Unless I am blind lol.

Not much to comment on yet but cannot wait to get stuck into this like I did Neverwinter :)

Edit... thought I`d better change the title lol, only played for an hour was so wrong now... been many hours and level 42 now :)

Love the game

there's no forums yet for xbox and ps4. truth be told there may not be for some time if I had to venture a guess. we'll see how it goes I suppose. welcome to STO

You think it's fun now, wait until they finish implementing the full game. It's a little hobbled right now, because they had kind of a deadline to get it out (supposed to be out around the 50th anniversary, ready or not), so some of the controls are still waiting to be implemented, and of course the game itself is a little behind the PC version. (Looking forward to doing the AoY thing on the XBone, though, when that finally rolls out!)

    Thanks :)

I have restarted already and made 3 characters in total, 1 of each class for the Federation so far and sped them all through the tutorial. Also getting used to how to play it, already figured out you can use the front and aft Beam weapons at the same time etc :)

I have not looked up any real info as I like to learn games myself before looking up how to actually play them ha ha :)

Yeah I am used to all that already from Neverwinter on the X1... It is always behind the PC version and I do not have a home PC to play games on :(

Welcome to the game! Delighted you are here and enjoying yourself. But, I feel I need to point out some things to both yourself and any other people whom are new to STO by way of Console play. Best advice I can give someone. I'd take it as a personal favor if you'd pass these on when appropriate.

    - Play the game for yourself and play it the way you think it should be played. You will make mistakes while playing and some events/issues will not come out the way you think they should. Don't get frustrated. Learn from them. This game does not do as good a job as it could in explaining itself.

    - Other players will be chock full of advice about how you should set up your ship and Away Team. Most of the time, this information is good and offered with good intentions. However, like Rikki Tikki Tavi, you should 'run and find out for yourself'.
(There. That gets my somewhat obscure literary reference out of the way for the week, lol.)

    - Lastly. if you are enjoying yourself and you look forward to playing again at the end of the session...
You are winning at STO! Keep doing whatever it is you are doing and you will continue to win at STO.

    Welcome to the Universe

Whilst the general differences in the platforms may mean some variation in the game accross the board, at basic level the hints/tips/ideas etc for the PC should hold true in terms of what gear to use and tactics, so do have a poke around some of the more educational areas.

You may see some comments which whine or complain but remember that is just one person's opinion as opposed to another, like all games you will get out of it what you put in.

You will encounter a variety of missions/scenario's, bear in mind that whilst some may seem boring or sedate they may be an essential part of the story - just consider them to be the same as the budget-saving flashback to previous chapters used to fill out a season in the TV shows.

It'll happen sometime. The confusion will simply be too great between console and PC discussions.

Ditto! (Except I am playing PS4... and never played Neverwinter...)

Anyway, glad to see I am not the only one loving the game so far. I am surpise how much I am enjoying it to be honest, given how I am not that much of a Star Trek fan (Well, I did LOVE Voyager...) but so far I love the gameplay, customization and the story seems good.

Thank you for all the feedback and comments folks :)

It seems like a very nice and respectful place around this forum, including the people. It is a bit weird seeing my name on here with like 4 posts, I have over 2k with my exact same profile on the Arc NW Forum lol.

Anyhoo I have had a few plays on it now and already completely addicted. I spent 3hrs just modifying the 1st few characters you get and my ship ha ha. I have completed a few missions now, I can tell it is still early days as I had to run off for 2mins and leave my ship getting attacks by 3 Klingon Ships... expected death when I came back but I only had 1 Shield down... so killed all 3 sweeeeet.

I am taking it slow and not rushing things, no point in a game like this. It is how I played Neverwinter for over a year completely free (I did buy a couple of not-needed things in support of the game). I played how I wanted to, for fun and just accumulated currencies as I went and sold off un-needed items. By end game you get an idea of how things work and how to make in game currency by playing smart :)

I`m presuming things will be kind of similar here, I am wanting to play completely for free and I love a good grind. But I will buy a couple of things at some point in support of the game, but that would not really aid character progression... so maybe more slots or inventory or something like that.

Oh and I have not looked up anything yet... I did have a look at some thread with links on as a couple would have been interesting, like what I wish I had have known etc.

I am avoiding all game spoliers, threads which suggest character builds and things like that. I like to work most things out for myself and then join in with threads like that in the future.

So if any of you guys have some small tips, as in do not destroy/sell "this" item.
Keep "this" item until end game.
    Do not waste "this" currency.

That would be great :) Sorry to be a pain lol.

My advice on wasting currency. Don't do it. ;) Waste is bad. Only the Malons like waste. You don't want to be a Malon, do you?

Don't worry about spending currency now. You can probably do well with just the dropped gear and the default gear when you get a new ship. It can be attractive to collect well-matched gear - single energy type, all beams or all cannon (DHC front, Turrets aft, for Escorts).

You definitley don't need any ships yet. The only really useful in the long term a low tier ship has to offer is the console (but only few are really worth it), and the costume (if there is an endgame retrofit of the ship).

Selling EC to vendors (except Ferengi and other shady vendors) is better than sending it to the replicator. Some stuff - rare and very rare items might fetch an even better price on Exchange. Check it out.

Also of note. Due the way item upgrading works, low mark items with a high rarity have a higher value then high mark items with a low rarity. Every time you upgrade an item by one mark, it also has a chance to increase further in rarity. Low mark upgrades cost you less upgrade tokens and less Dilithium then high mark upgrades. So it's ideal to start with Very Rare Mark II items if you can, provided you want to end up with an Ultra-Rare or Epic item.

A note: Inflation exists in STO. So EC you earn now is not that valuable - unless you convert it into stuff that will grow in EC value. Example for that are Master Keys - the more EC there is in the game, the more people are willing to spend on them.
So if you ever find you have a lot of spare EC, and don't know what to do with it, check if you can buy a few Master Keys on the Exchange. Their value will rise over the months and years.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

I use to play on my wife's PC before she changed the password, really glad it came to consoles. Now I hope Agents of Yesterday makes it's way to Xbox One :disappointed:

Soooooo update, still playing and really enjoying everything. Reached Level 40 now with my 1st character and had to pick the Defiant Class ha ha... so nimble and powerful :)

Figured out I could reply missions fairly early on so kept most of my Weapons and Consoles up to date etc. Only died a load of times when I went into a Deep Space Encounter at Lv15 I think it was, nightmare and ended up having to abort lol. The AI was just spawn camping.

I am now into the 3rd Arc of the Story Line and pretty addicted. I have received 2 free ships along the way from looking in the store every now and then. I also see a lack of Officer Slots which I may have to spend some Zen on when I get it :)

Glad to see you're having fun with STO. I think sometimes we all forget this is a game. To be played to amuse and entertain ourselves. Mea culpa. I find it enthusing and enjoyable to read something such as you posted. It reminds me of why I started this game in the first place.

And I needed to be reminded.

So, thank you, OP. For helping an old man remember how to just run around and play.

Welcome to STO on the X1!

Only thing I have to say is I am disappointed by the number of people that automatically run to the Fed when starting. I would suggest you give both the Romulans and Klingons a try. The Romulans have by far the most interesting storyline arcs of any of the alliances - loss of homeworld, millions dead, lost territory, attempted takeover of remaining territory by Tal Shiar, huge fight back going on with you having to choose an alliance with either the fed or the klingons at level 10 as the New Romulan Republic is not strong enough to fight on its own.

I actually have levelled a Romulan/KDF aligned character for my first char, and my god its interesting. Also, you probably don't know this, but all Romulan ships have an extra set of weapons powered by their unique engines, the Singularity Core. Nothing like having a bunch of klingons turn up to help you in a tough fight.

As she is an engineer, and now level 50, I want to start a Tactical Klingon I think. That could lead to some interesting stuff.

Ha ha it is probably a Human thing... I imagine we associate ourselves with the more human side of things in video games to begin with, then once you have the hang of things try new things within said game. I made a good looking Trill Engineer for the Fed as my 1st character, Fed is pretty Humany (new word of the day lol), not sure what I will do next but I will imagine I will have multiple characters (I have 8 on Neverwinter).

Truth be told though, I personally thought the Fed would be the 1st Campaign then Klingon's or Romulan's would be next or something like that. I avoid all spoilers so I just assumed that is the way it would be :)

By the way I was looking forward to the Story line until you kind of Spoiled it there lol, next time maybe use the forum tools to hide it as a spoiler alert :)
