The Sydney Class seems about the size of a runabout, could make a nice addition to the 'small craft' section of STO and might work as a 23c Option for our AoY alts
The Sydney class is about the length Miranda class hull not including the warp nacelles based on the studio model using the Miranda bridge on the star trek 6 shuttle model.

based on what? That wording isn't making sense to me....
It doesn't seem that big in the 2 times we see it, but if it is, it'd also make a kick TRIBBLE light cruiser option for TWoK era

TMP bridge dome and engine pods. Gives one an idea of size. It's about Miranda size, but chunkier.
bridge dome and engine pods would only give you a clue if you can put them beside something with a known set of dimensions... Remember movie era shuttles had engine pods that looked like the warp nacelle as well, does that mean they're the same size as the Reliant or Ent-A? nope.
STO isn't canon, and neither are any of the books.

If we use the Jenolan as a reference, she was big enough to wedge the Jenolan Sphere's doors open wide enough for a Galaxy Class Starship to slip through after destroying her by rolling "onto her wing"
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I just watched that episode... notice the jenolan's shields are doin the bulk of the work there. I figure it IS a little larger than a runabout in canon but STO throws so much BS around on anything else I also figured a little shrink for a new runabout wouldnt be a big deal.
When we see one in DS9 its also pretty small, I figure if we were to be honest its closer to the Aquarius in size. Something in a "corvette" or "gunship" size range. Bigger than a shuttle, but not big enough to be a capital ship in its own.
The model uses the hull of an old runabout but has a bridge module and nacelles that shows a larger ship. It is not a runabout. Still, it's be nice as a T3 or so light cruiser.
Edit the runabout it's based on is a separate ship from TMP. They are no more the same ship tha the Yeger and J'Day are. Or the Centour and Excelsior.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

A great idea. But not something that fits with the art style and design intentions of AoY itself.
I could see this being a mission reward for a mission involving the older Scotty, the older Chekov, and the movie era stuff. So I think the idea's got legs and there's definitely a chance for this to happen. I just don't think it works as a 23c AoY type element as that faction really focuses on the 1960s designs.
The TUC shuttle is what I believe the OP was more referring to. The Sydney, itself, is quite large especially since it has a proper bridge module. Though I would love to see the Surak shuttle, or the TFF shuttles or perhaps just more shuttles period.
It is still a lot bigger than a Danube. If you go by its nacelles and bridge module, it is roughly the size of a Miranda, but if you go by how big it is when it was docked at DS9, it is roughly the size of a Miranda.

I really wish people would stop trying to use the shape of a hull accessory as an indicator of size... you can make something that looks identical to the refit constitution's nacelle at 1/10th the original size or 10x the original size....
As for the DS9 shot I thought it looked a bit smaller personally, but Id have to dig up the episode to refresh my memory to be certain. Even then, like I said above I expect its actually closer to an Aquarius in concept bigger than a Runabout, not quite a Defiant/Miranda. But I would think it could be fudged if the developers wanted to without much fuss.
Its an idea to get some more small craft and diverse types of them.

I sorta get you, but at the same time, AoY also had us bouncing around various time periods and interacting with older Chekov and Scotty. And yeah, I would expect it to come from a mission set in that era.

Given that the model for the Miranda that was used in DS9, the Trial was roughly the same size as the Sydney, when both ships docked at DS9, that is where I get my info plus the fact that the studio model shows at least six decks. What you keep referring to is the Sydney VIP shuttle shown in TUC, which is roughly the same size as the Danube. If that shuttle received Movie-era nacelles that would exactly like a Movie-Danube.

I keep referring to the Sydney CLASS vessel that I linked in my original post. And I just dug up the DS9 Episode Chrysalis which is the only time we get a decent look at a vessel of that class in comparison to other ships and the station. I was wrong about it's size, it is about the same size as the Defiant. (for reference it flies just over it in the last few seconds of the episode)
So a bit too big for a runabout if we stick to its original size, which is a damned shame, cause its got a perfect shape for one. Still, could make a really great light cruiser or "utility cruiser" like the Pioneer. And yes, I know its listed as a "transport ship" that's why I suggested a runabout.
A danube is listed as 13.7m wide and 23.1m long, and the defiant is listed at 170m long and 130m wide and having 4 decks. So the sydney could easily be made part of the STO family.
I didn't mean to imply that there was some connection between this craft & the warp shuttle from TMP, I was suggesting that shuttle as an alternative era appropriate (well almost) "runabout".
Sorry not TMP. I believe it (the runabout) is from TUC. It's about 30-40m (so larger the the Danube) the Sidney is also a TMP era ship (though only seen in TNG and DS9) is slightly shorter than the Miranda and slightly larger the the Defiant (about 150-170m).
I would like to see both and the Executive Shuttle (what the runabout is more commonly called) and the Sidney in-game but not as the same ship.
The TMP warp shuttle I believe is also a Starfleet design and about the size of a runabout.

I agree all feds should have access, but I was thinking 23c should get a shot at it free or discounted compared to the cost for normal feds

I' dwelcome a Sydney class in game.
I'd say that's bigger than a Runabout.

Im not talking give away, Im talkin about something you get for in game progression or perhaps a ship you grind for. Not a cash shop freebie
thatd be sweet!
