What makes your favorite ship class appealing to you?

In other words: Why is your favorite ship your favorite ship?
My personal favorite (as some will have gathered) is the Vesta class. It never appeared on TV, it's from the novel verse, so I have only seen pictures of it. But boy is that thing beautiful. I seriously have to tip my hat at Mr. Rademaker for this design. Its sleek profile, streamlined like a shark, and complete lack of a neck, creating an unbroken form. Then it has all the little details on its hull, like the "gills" on top of the secondary hull. It just looks more "modern" than other Starfleet vessels without being a complete departure from the typical Starfleet design. It's the prime example of a "post-TNG/DS9/VOY"-era design.
Another thing about the Vesta that appeals to me are its capabilities, as demonstrated both in the books and in the game. It has a quantum slipstream drive, and a chroniton integrator, allowing it to take sensor readings of things a few seconds in the future. While it didn't really use its experimental systems like the sympathetic fermion transciever or the multidimensional wave-function analysis module in the books, the abilities it gets from them in the game arte really great and saved my bacon a few times. This is also why I want a T6 version with Intel abilities/BOff seating so bad.

I agree, the Excel looks majestic, the best mix of function and style to leave the Starfleet shipyards in my opinion.
Second place has to go to the Nova, for similar reasons.
1- Daedalus
2- Sovereign
3- Original Constitution
Why?
1- It's a very retro look since it is something straight out of concept drawings. I love that they started with a ball, and then that got rejected and they moved on to the saucer design. It's also got this history, like it's always been in the background of Trek, so it's semi-canon, but it's always been so far removed from the cutting edge of Trek. And it became the grand-daddy of the U.S.S. Pasteur. I just like everything about its lore and history. And then the look itself reminds me of something NASA would actually make. The hull is kind of a space capsule type can. The Ball part is very much like an orbiter type thing if it detached. And it follows the concept of using two nacelles to create a warp bubble. Just every detail about the Daedalus appeals to me.
Side Note: I also like the golfball ships because they remind me of one of my biggest pet peeves in starship design that both Trek and Cryptic have been doing for years: Streamlining designs. All of the movement toward flat, aerodynamic type of ship designs is kind of off to me, because if we look out in space, the fastest moving objects are ... spheres. It's always been a problem for me rectifying the flat piercing shapes of ship design in an environment that favors spheres and has a z-axis. It's just my own quirk and explains why I like the golfball ships, as they remind me that spheres still work in space.
2- Sovereign: It's my favorite ship involving Picard. I just don't like the look of the Galaxy as much as everyone else. But when I saw the Sovereign on the big screen, it appealed to me. And time-wise, it's the last Enterprise on screen sort of (the J shows up in ENT, and the Odyssey was created for this game and I do dig the Odyssey so I'm not trying to take anything away from that).
Confession time: As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE the retro TOS era 1960s Starship designs, and as much as I love TOS ... because of my childhood memories, TNG and Picard are still my favorite crew. My dad passed about 9 years ago. And we used to watch TNG together all the time. So TNG will always have that edge in terms of nostalgia. Soooo ... in STO, the Sovereign was just the ship I took to. In game functionality it was better than the Galaxy, and I liked the look more.
3- TOS Constitution: I absolutely love this ship. Almost as much as the two mentioned above. And have wanted it to be an endgame ship since the very beginning. I love the deflector dish. I love the saucer. The concept of the saucer is to me really awesome. The ship just says Star Trek to me. It hits the retro style button for me. It hits the iconic status for me. It looks and feels like Star Trek. AoY has given me the sounds, the stories, the crew, the ships, the look and the feel of the kind of Star Trek game I always wanted to play in STO. And the T6 Connie is the crowning achievement of that experience. I love this ship.
1. b'rel/kor line. Though she be but little, she is fierce! and I like that in a ship.

The Excelsior-Refit, commonly referred to as the Lakota subtype. Is just a very nice looking ship. At one point several years ago it was the best federation cruiser available in game. It was powerful, maneuverable, and tanky. Unfortunately, even though it has been given the T6 treatment it's probably the least offensive cruisers available and suffers from an overabundance of engineering stations. Really wish they had made that ensign station universal.
The Klingon D7 is the original Klingon ship and it's a design that still holds up today. I unfortunately couldn't afford the new T6 version, but I do have the Fleet T5U and it's still a pretty good ship. Offensively, it's a little weak, but it's extremely agile and relatively tanky as well. Really wish cryptic would fix the model. I thought since they re-released it in the R&D pack they would fix the glow of the warp nacelles, but apparently that's never going to happen. Sad since this beautiful ship deserves better.
The D'Deridex is probably one of the coolest ships I've ever seen on any science fiction show/movie. It's such an intimating looking ship! In game It has a decent boff and console layout and is relatively well rounded. The thing that kills this ship is the abysmal turn rate. I think if it had a better turn rate 7 or 8 that it would be more popular in-game. I'm still not sure why they gave it such a terrible turn rate. Even the scimitar, which is much larger, has a better turn rate.
Honorable mentions to the Herald Quas, Kazon Raider, Ranger, and Mogh.

Why? This thing looks like a battleship more so than it's successors ... and those nacelles ... so awesome!
As far as ingame reasons go, I feel like my Kelvin Connie is the most responsive ship I've flown. A lot of it is probably mental, driven by my love of the ship, but I have a build that works great for me. It's the first ship where I managed to fit every console I wanted to on board, I have every weapon I feel I need on it, and she puts out more damage than any of my previous cruiser builds. I'm not a big fan of escorts because they don't suit my playing preference, a bit too squishy, and I don't get much damage out of science ships (that shield strength though...). The Kelvin Connie has the perfect boff layout for me (I can seat all of my favorite TOS hologram boffs) and console layout. I feel like weapons are balanced too. Like I said, I'm getting much higher dps out of it than any cruiser I've piloted before, and I'm having a blast doing it too. I also love that I can throw a retro look on it, which I fly on occasion.
Thanks to this ship, I can grind without feeling like I'm grinding. I am having much more fun playing the game than I think I have ever had before, and Cryptic is certainly much wealthier for it. My wallet cries every night thinking about how much the Kelvin content has cost me, but the enjoyment of playing with all of it has outweighed it greatly. Anyhow, that's my story

Several still appear in the cut scenes during the Iconian War, and we still have the U.S.S. Stardancer from the Undine mission!
I can decloak, punch you in the face with powerful burst turning you to dust. If you dont explode can take as well as i give, tanking and wait for that gap and THEN blow you to dust.
You just can not beat the Excelsior class i am glad i have the T6 version.
Presidio i actually really like the look of this ship with the Jem'hadar shield it looks really cool and was my first introduction to hanger pets and from that moment on i loved them.
Jupiter from my experience with the Presidio i got this ship over a T6 ship for my rom or klingon character and i am glad i did it has served me very well and is a awesome ship only downside with it is the lieutenant tactical station i would have prefered taking one away from engineering and giving it to tactical i love using the advanced callisto's they really helped with damage against many enemies.
And my latest ship after giving on months ago to a friend i recently picked up a Tholain Tarantula dreadnought.I love dreadnought class vessels it's why i found it really cool when i learnt that the Jupiter was technically a dread because of what it replaced. The hanger pets are really good the Web cannon is excellent and its mastery is perfect it is a perfect ship for my playstyle.
Yeah this is my favorite ship too. When i first saw her in that TNG episode i was so hooked. This thread makes me sad for the one thing i always wanted in this game. Tier less ships. Fly any ship you want. It would all depend on the gear you put on them how tough they would be. The one thing to make it work would be an armor slot for all ships.
When she was given away free last year I grabbed myself a fleet module and upgrade token and played the hell out of her solidly for about 6 months.
Just a shame the T6 variant was so disappointing.
It'll almost certainly be the ship I try out the new ship printing service with. Probably with the Jem'hadar hull material, but possibly Dyson. Still have to think on that.
