I was just wondering if all the graphical updates to lighting and what not were also being added to the PC version. I've seen the posts with the comparison shots but they never specified in those posts that it would be for PC as well.
They specified early on that the new lighting system will be coming to the PC. The latest PC test build on tribble, in fact, has the new lighting engine. I've seen it, it's great, but there's no set date on when it'll be coming to the main game.

Actually I tried it on tribble as well. I love it. The lighting seems to be great everywhere I went. Try adjusting settings or upgrade to a better system imo.
Does anyone know if it's going in with the patch today? It's supposed to be one of the highlights of the console version, so one would think the console release means it's ready for release...

Tell me it isn't so, because the glorious PC gaming master race cannot be slighted in such a manner!
Its probably easier to push it out on console first because of standardized equipment. All the consoles are running the same graphics cards and everything. PC has so many variables, that they may be working out the kinks that would come about from all the varied system specs that exist for PC.
Personally I don't mind the wait. Better than pushing it out now and potentially making the game unplayable for a portion of the PC community due to not being able to see anything through the lights.
Perhaps, but the friends and family who were looking to join our fleet are probably going to be a lot less interested now. Ah well. My bad for promoting the idea to them without checking my facts first.
I simply took it for granted that same server meant sticky retention. Their market research must be better than what passes for my common sense.

This doesn't mean you can't help them out though. Or even make a console character and play alongside them on the console.

From what's been said about Tribble, it sounds like the new effects aren't really ready for prime time period (modern console hardware isn't fundamentally different from PC hardware). The first wave of console users are basically going to be QA and loadtesting, which explains why the release hasn't been that hyped too.
The problem I have is I can use everything else bar shadows as soon as I put shadows on my GPU crys tears of pain..
I am not runningba low low end card either but its not top end luxury either.
So the main issue is it badly needs looking into so if like me you cant use shadows or sone other settings due to performance issues *like being able to play the game* your maps dont turn into light shows.
I tried every combo possble to tube down the brightness and the only thing that tuned it down was shadows which I cant use.
It needs tuning so people who had zero issues on HOLODECK can still play with out having to folk out for new GPU etc.
The update is on Tribble, but it's obviously not ready yet for rime time. Currently the game only works with DirectX, which means plenty of gamers with older machines couldn't run the game at all. (Might also be a problem for Linux/Wine users). That is somethnig they'll still have to work on.
That's why Redshirt is active again - Tribble is now for testing the next big (Season?) release for STO, Redshirt is for the weekly stuff.

And I'm glad to it made my GPU scream it needs to be fine tuned a lot before it drops.
It didnt give me any slowdown, and looks great.. where is optimized, some parts of the game.. well, still needs work, but it really looks great!

Fear not brother! The console peasants are contained to their server. They will not tarnish ours with their presence.
Well that was a waste of their time then.
