Good T5 or T6 for a KDF Science officer?

kamenridersaswordkamenridersasword Member Posts: 38 Arc User
Title more or less says it all here, the character in question hasn't hit that level yet but I like to plan ahead. I prefer to stick to faction ships and lockbox ships just arent ever going to happen to me with my luck

Depends on what kind of ship you want to fly.

Science Vessels offerings are slim to non-existent. I think the Dyson Destroyers are pretty good, but I know people tend to disagree. I think that's in large part because it competes with the Vesta, which was simply "uber" compared to all other Science Vessels, or because they insist on using the transformation mode. Don't. Fly it like a real Science Vessel, and it has everything you need for that. Except it's Tier 5. I can't recommend spending money on Tier 5 ship.

A semi-faction option for Tier 6 now is the Eternal. It's basically (purely mechanics-wise) the Tier 6 Vesta. If you are okay with flying a complete a non-standard design (people will call it a Fed ship, but really, it's just a 31st centry ship that doesn't fit any classic ship designs), that's your pick for Science Vessels.

But you are not limited to Science Vessels. Escorts, Cruisers and Raiders can work great. I would still recommend ships with science leaning or science enabled loadout options.

The T6 Kor is a great Bird of Prey, even if i BOPs don't quite fit in the current BFAW meta. You have incredible flexibility in loadout. Of course, the Ouroboros is probably still a bit better. It lacks Enhanced Battle Cloak, but it has Molecular Deconstruction.

Among the Escorts, I would probably recommend the Science Pilot Raptor. Incredibly fun to fly, a Science Lt.Cmdr option, and the best trait from the 3 ships. Alternatively, The Qa'tel has the option to be science-heavy.

The T6 Kurak has one of the best starship traits in the game, is maneuverable, and can be build surprisingly science heavy.

From the Command Vessels, you almost need the entire set - the Tactical (Ty'Gokor) one has a great trait for anyone that wants to use science powers, but it lacks the bridge officer seating to really utilize it fully - that would be the science one (Klinzhai).

Well I do have the Qa'Tel already and it has performed wonderfully on my Tacs so perhaps sticking to that might be a good idea, at the same time I have been eyeing the Kurak for a while and have it's predecessor which has also proven to be a good one. Plus they have the benefit of being proper Klingon vessels as opposed to the essentially federation 31st century ships.

Im a bit of a roleplayer, the ship has to make sense to me dammit lol. Still good suggestions there and the advice is much appreciated.

    Kar'fi Battle Carrier
    Fleet Kar'fi Battle Carrier
    Fleet Scourge Destroyer Retrofit
    Fleet Corsair Flight-deck Cruiser Retrofit
    Fleet Vo'quv Carrier
    Varanus Fleet Support Vessel
    Dyson
    Science Command Battlecruiser(T6)
Gorkon Science Battlecruiser(T6){Though this one is more Tac and Engi console oriented)
    Science Pilot Raptor(T6)

And other than the temporal and the regular version of the Corsair(which is mostly engi) and the Varanus. This is pretty much the KDF's selection of science ships.

Depending on your budget, the Lobi-store Paradox is also a very potent beast; better, if you also purchase the Rozhenko shuttle, it can take a Klingon skin and KDF only pets, which IMO makes it the closest thing to a KDF T6 science platform. Being designed to look evil, it has a much more Klingon vibe than the T6 temporal ships.

Would the Veteran Destroyers work well for a sci? Im a lifer and have those as an option

Yeah, the Veteran Destroyer is flexible enough to work for any class. It can slot up to 6 sci powers (but no secondary deflector) and the trait boosts torps, so it could be made very science-heavy.

I wouldn't invest into the Tier 5 one, unless you want the console. The Tier 6 gives you already access to both skins, so there is not much to gain. (unless you want to show your support for the KDF, I suppose.)
EDIT: Misread, I thought you were eying both, not that you had the Tier 5 already.

The Veteran Destroyer is a decent ship. Try it out. It's not like it costs you anything to claim if you are already a lifetime subscriber/Veteran. :) (Until you want the Fleet version.)

Kor is an awesome ship for Sci KDF. I use the T5U Fleet B'rel (very much unfinished) and it rips things apart through a combination of Sci Magicks and Torps. I would kill for that extra LtC slot the Kor has.

My main problem with the Kor is it is tiny and not all that cool looking compared to pretty much every other KDF ship out there ha ha

I fly a Temporal Sci-Kor Enhanced Battle Cloak Torpedo Bomber.

Stop worrying about what the SHIP looks like and start worrying about all the popcorn you're going to pop when combining Gravity Well III + Scramble Sensors I + Torpedo Spread III + {insert favorite Torpedo type here}. Oh and having Control Amplification really helps. ;)

To put it mildly, my Temp Sci-Kor is clearing one entire quarter of the map at a time when I feel like helping out the "poor DPSers" who can't manage all the spawns on their own (I spend most of my time closing rifts and activating satellites, since usually no one else does) during the Mirror Invasion Event.

A Temporal Sci-Kor can engage at long range, from cloak, with Science ... it can engage at medium range, from cloak, with Torpedoes ... and it can engage at point blank range, while staying cloaked, with Mines (I favor Nukara Web Mines, personally). You can use Pilot skills, if those are your "thing" and with the Temporal Specialization as your Primary, you've even got a "get out of death FREE!" card at Tier 5 that can literally save your cooked Targ bacon. In other words, you don't have to be a One Trick Pony, but can in a Sci-Kor "do it all" ... everything from knife fighting to playing keep away to doing hit and run. You can fight a patient battle in which your enemies can't even fight back effectively while you Mine them, if you want, or you can swoop in for the kill at the time and positioning of your choosing.

So when you say "not all that cool looking" I just smirk and think ... "they never even saw me coming, and there were no survivors" ... B)

Even if you think the ship is ugly, what it can DO is anything BUT ugly (except for the recipients of your largess).

Well, you know my vote is already in on the Kor. Whether or not I am coordinated enough to not do all that fancy stuff autumnturning is talking about.

Yeah. I've seen autumn's build in action and it is amazing. I just hope mine can be like that some day. Speaking of which I need to get back on the ball for organizing some Raider runs. Been slacking on that because of the event.

In MI I'm the same way. Of course all my chars use the Vorgon Heavy Escort, only T6 ship that I own. It just hilarious when I watch others having trouble with one or two rifts, and I'm over here trying to close one rift but have 3 or 4 more rifts worth of ships pounding on me. I could probably alleviate that by going back to cannons, instead of using a beam escort.

The main problem that most have in MI is that they don't know the easiest way to do it. There are two tactics.

The 3/2 split. Three ships go on way, two ships go the other. This allows on to draw fire while someone else closes rifts.

The 2/1/2 split. This puts 2 ships going left and right from star and the fifth heading for the station. Still gives you the draw fire ship and rift closer on each side. But it also gives you one at the station just in case you get a lot of rift spawns, in an area you have't got to yet.

Either way, you can run overlapping circles on this. Or have said ships cover one half of the board.

My Orion Sci officer only has 3 damaging sci abilities in her setup Grav Well I, Tykin's Rift I, and Feedback Pulse I. Its not the best setup. But as I don't actually have a Sci vessel KDF side. Work with what ya got.

My Orion Science captain has flown the free T5u DSD from the 2014 Anniversary Event for awhile before switching to the T5U B'rel / T6 Kor BoPs. More recently that captain has flown the T6 Gorkon Flagship which is a science oriented heavy cruiser and now the T6 Martok Flagship tactical oriented heavy cruiser.

The original plan was to flying both the Gorkon and Martok for their ship traits Checkmate and Super Charged Weapons, then switch back to the T6 Kor BoP. Checkmate improves torpedo damage and exotic damage when activating a control ability like gravity well. Super Charged Weapons increases energy weapon damage after launching a torpedo. Therefore, the combo of those two traits gives a nice overall damage boost.

However, I will likely switch over to the T6 Eternal science ship since I bought the 31st century bundle recently. I may eventually switch back to the T6 Kor though since BoPs are fun to fly.

If you can't deal with a quadrant yourself, you have no buisness in that difficulty of MI.

I don't know what the hell you are talking about since I have not mentioned MI in my post.
