Starship registry number inquiry

1. Why does the ship registry number only allow you to start from 91002?
2. Is it based on the date 2409? If so how does that star date translate to registry?

Thank you in advance.

The first Belfast was commanded by Captain Ve'Kal Shon until its destruction in 2409. A new ship was commissioned bearing the same name and registry as special dispensation to then newly promoted Captain Edward XIII for his pivotal role during the renewed Dominion War.

Seems I recall reading somewhere that it was a restriction CBS insisted on in order to "reserve" possible registry numbers that they might want to use in the future. Don't know how much truth there is to that though.

    Why "reserve" like that though?
Is the earth going to open up and cave-in on itself if some dufus here creates NCC-1345 and 10 years from now they want to create a show with a NCC-1345 ship.

*come close i have a secret for you*
*whispers: no one is going to know or care*

And im sure it not going to restrict their production computers from making it.
*In the studio: ah, TRIBBLE Tom, guess what we can't make this registry number work, it appears Wanker#396120 over at STO dibs it already*

So 2409 would translate to NCC-92409?

So you can't pick a number used for a canon ship.

Same reason why it won't let you name a ship Enterprise.

I'm just happy I can finally use the proper 4-digit registry number on my TOS Fed ship and my Kelvin Connie. A 5 or 6-digit number just wouldn't look right on them.

There's gonna be a mess of ships with the number 1701... :|

i wouldnt be surprised if they block the hero ship registries, but it would be nice to give a galaxy or intrepid a 7***** registry to give it that older ship feel, even the Mirandas too

^ I thought NCC-1701 was off limits (only allowed for the Enterprise). I used NCC-1702 for my Kelvin Connie (USS Columbia).

They might lock out certain registry numbers, specifically those of known hero ships like Enterprise, Voyager, and Defiant, just like we can't use those names. So I'd expect to see 11701 to try and get around it like spelling Enterprise with a z instead of an s.

Nope, registries like that are locked out, just like certain names.
We already have that registry range on TOS ships and the new Kelvin Connie, Cryptic is just extending it to the rest of the federation ships now.

I'm glad they fixed it. Now I can do my numbers more accurate to what I was going for.

Example - USS Casinghead NCC 92047 will now be NCC 2047

USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350

Me too. As my main ship was the USS Lexington, I would like for her to have the proper registry number of 1709-A. As it is now, its 91709-A.

I'm currently flying the USS Exeter, the KT Connie version with proper registry number. Just kinda adds something to the feel IMO having the right registry number if you're flying an actual named ship.

    Why "reserve" like that though?

Because that's what the people who own the Star Trek intellectual property wanted to do. They determined that 2409-era ships would have this specific registry number availability.

The NX-91001 was a ship back in the day that was used to help promote the game, and then it quietly disappeared into the ether, never to be seen or heard from again. That's why it starts out at 91002, since the NX-91001 is still technically off-limits even though we know next to nothing about what that particular ship has been up to.

I hated the 9 in front of it. It really bugged me on wanting it right. I even had an Excelsior I called the Hood. And was using the number from the one from TNG/DS9, but the "9" was messing it up. This was also one of my AOY choices. And still maybe it.

This change to registry numbers opens up some possibilities for some of my fed ships that are from earlier eras. I'm glad CBS changed their mind about NCC number availability.

Or as some people on the STO forums will interpret it: "LOL CRYPTIC LIED ABOUT WHAT CBS SAID LOLOLOLOL GOTCHA"

Oh, forgive me. It appears my ignorance is showing...

Honestly I've never tried to use that number on any of my ships so I didn't know it was locked.

    Good to know, though. :)

Glad to see that the registries have been opened up. Now, if we can just get the shuttle registries to read ####-# or ####/# :)
