For every little thing in STO we get marks, dil and other things. But after many many months of doing R&D and bring all categories to lev 20, nothing happens...
Yeah there is no glorious crescendo when you reach lvl 20, like as when you max out a reputation.
But at lvl 15 is more significant because you unlock a trait and a a special crafting item recipe. Level 20 is just more to increase the rarity of your items.
Actually, what you get for L20 R&D is specific to the R&D system itself...
Keep the following in mind - for each "skill point" you're over the minimum to craft an item, you have an X% chance of "critting" said assignment and either getting extras of the item(s) being crafted, or automatic rarity increases.
And L20 crafting school = maximum chance of a crit.
Another perspective to look at is this: You now craft the exact same, every time you click "craft", as some dude who hung out at L15 and is burning +50 catalysts every project...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

this is not the point!
To reach lev 20 in each category is a very special moment and nothing happens. This is the point! I don´t care whats happen in lev 15 cause it´s not difficult to reach it.
Okay, you get a new accolade for each school you get to 20, a new title for each school you get to 20, and your crit chance is the highest it can possibly be for every crafting school in the game.
You get bragging rights, for what that's worth. I have a few R&D schools at 20, so I can't imagine what it must be like to get every single school to 20 on one character.
If you're looking for something more, I'm not sure what to tell you. Most players haven't gotten to where you are. It's been stated numerous times that anything over 15 is really considered overachieving. The schools are more or less 'done' at 15.
If you're looking for something more, I'm not sure what to tell you.
That´s why this message is for the devs (developement!) if they read it or not.
And I have no need to "bragging" because everyone can do it.
Then why the upset at the lack of anything special for hitting 20 in all schools?
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
Could it be that you're a greedy mo-fo character and the "achievement" alone, isn't enough for your EGO?

I haven't heard of any specific flashes on hitting maxed all reps >.>
and just before AoY I've did it
the only thing you get there is "flashy" per each rep school but nothing on hitting all so either op changed his mind in the middle of thread or I dunno
You should get a message. 'You cannot develop crafting skills in any school. You have reached the maximum, there is nothing more to learn. Go craft something and have fun with it'. Such a message is not much, but it would make me happy.
Yeah, I do think they need an update to the Crafting rewards. Nothing has really been "added" since the AEGIS system at level 15, and there's tons more they've added to the game in mechanics and systems since then.
Would be nice if they added a (or more than one) new set item to the batch, but I won't get my hopes up.
Perhaps even increase the crafting levels so there's more to aspire to.
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.
Oh don't worry OP. You can bet level 20 items and recipes will come at one point.
Probably when they've finished with the Crafting revamp (which is supposed to be under development afaik).
No dil, no expertise, traits ect there's enough in the game that rewards those things. i wouldn't mind though fixed item R&D packs for each level i hit 20 in. Beams for example 250 uncommon/common mats/100 Rubidium/Z-parts ect and 25 Radiogenic Particles
Otherwise, you really can't get upset when people answer the question you post in a publicly accessible forum.
Plus, the rewards (and by extension, lack of rewards) can be found in the STO Blogs as well as the Wiki and right here in the forums. Anyone who spent so much time filling out their R&D missions without doing enough real R&D to not be blindsided like you did got exactly what they deserved: Nothing. Except you didn't get nothing, but you just aren't happy with what you got.

I stopped at Lv15 on all of them. I rather craft around Mk V gear. Which around 90% of the time it comes out Epic. Then I upgrade it from there. Sometimes I even hit Ultra Epic doing this. Now I have good gear to use. I don't use catalyst on them, just upgrade. Plus crafting the lower level stuff is cheaper on the mats too. Or have to deal with expensive special Doffs.
This is why I have no reason to level past Lv15.

That would be nice. Actually, it could be a great reward: a Purple Specialist R&D Duty Officer for the category that you reach Level 20 in.
More likely a blue or green one. Cryptic has intentionally made the purple ones difficult to get with the randomization of the Research Lab Fleet Holding or make them available only through Lockboxes.

Actually they did add new items a while back. Large ship batteries, hypos, shield charges, and power cells. Along with other new ground and space consumable devices. I believe you need level 5 and level 10 in various crafting schools to unlock the recipes.
Edit: And a special shield. I don't recall without logging into the game, but a while back they did finally add a special shield that requires level 15 in R&D: Shields to craft. Originally there wasn't anything special there.
I too had recently got my final crafting school to level 20.
I don't care about getting any big dil reward or anything. But what sucks is, even at level 20 the chance to craft an ultra rare is abysmal.
Purple duty officer and two +50 catalysts (the highest catalysts you can get) and I get around a 44% critical chance for special items, like a TR-116B, to craft at ultra rare.
So to be honest, you only need to get crafting schools to level 15 to unlock the personal traits and recipes for special items. Because spending all that damn time getting them to 20 doesn't really do much.
I did 1 character one school to 20. I've long feared that they would add something superduperawesome for level 20, but at the time you could only do 1 mission a day and I just couldn't face the long cold months it would take. Sure, I'll regret it if they ever add something, however that ship she has sailed for me. The journey is just too long.

Speaking of crafting, last night I made the unhappy discovery that when you try to upgrade 23C equipment, at least some of it, it ends up as bound to character.
Bound to account I could probably see. But bound to character? Phooey.

Which ones?
I am considering upgrading the Type 3 Phaser Rifle... the one that does not have a mark level associated with it.
What do you get with lvl 20 in all schools? You get Title of Master in every category, you crit pretty much every time you make a tech upgrade so you double your output from the same input source whenever you make them...... and your crit chance on crafted items is high where you can easily pull off a ultra-rare without spending boosts.
My Fed eng is 20 in all schools and right now is making upgrades to fit out stiff on my AoY toon. Just recently crafted an ultra-rare omni AP beam for my AoY toon's ship (I have the Omni beam doff as well on this toon), and there is going to be tons of spare tech upgrades including some stacks of experimentals which will be going on the exchange for lots of ec during the upgrade event.
So, you have more ec making potential, and some accolade and bragging titles... what more does one need?
