This weeks before and after...

Am I the only one who saw this and thought that the before was actually much, much better in this case?

There have been a couple of them where I thought the before looked better then the after. I don't know though it is kind of hard to tell just from before/after shots. It will probably look better once it goes live and we see for ourselves.

Look at the backgrounds. They look more detailed than in the before. Aside from the light or brightness still a great improvement.

My biggest gripe is with the monitors that are now atrociously so bright a good part of their LCARS' colors and graphs are gone.

If it's like this for everything, Risa is gonna be unplayable unless you have real-life sunglasses.

Yeah... I dunno. I liked the dark atmosphere that came with the Romulan interiors. What I think looks good in some cases is really terrible on this one.

That being said, Risa wouldn't have as many light sources.

I like the depth that the new lighting adds, but I think that sometimes the vibrancy of color in the original images is preferable. However, I will reserve my final judgement until I can actually explore the spaces themselves, I think that once we get that 3-dimensional exploration of the maps we may find it to be much more appealing than a single image can make it appear.

no, I liked the new one, but there was WAY too much glare comin off the monitors. Thats happened in a couple of the before/after. Hopefully itll get a pass before its live

a lot of the glare/washed-out look in the after shots could be that cryptic employee's graphic settings

it will likely look different for those who don't have those specific settings

    Both are good and bad.

    Old:
Good - Its more darker and spooky. Monitors are better as they look more realistic with the glow.
Bad - Details in the back ground is not as good.

    New:
Good - The details are better and the light reflects on stuff is better.
Bad - Monitors too bright. I would hate to sit there for hours working on stuff.

The computer screens are so bright many of their details are completely washed out, otherwise after is much better

No, you're not. IMO the 'After' looks way worse (overlit, washed out, and it looks like no anti-Aliasing to speak of.)

The after definitely looks lower quality overall to me. The before just looks more real and crisp. Not a particularly good example this time.

The After always looks worse IMO. A video showing the difference between the before and after would be much better.

I am sure you're not the only one, but I cannot agree.

The "before" picture is dark and more artificial - there is some dark ambient light that has no source, leading to things like the desk being equally well lit, while the second allows the part of the desk that is beyond the glowing monitors being in shadows compared to the part that is exposed to the monitor light. In fact, in the After-Picture, all the consoles actually seem to produce light, and are not just looking as if whatever they are displaying is painted on.

I can only imagine how much more awesome it will be to walk actually through that scene and not just have a still.

I have to agree with the OP. The background is almost non-existent and it's way too bright. When I first saw this before/after shot I thought the "before" shot was the "after" shot and was impressed until I read which was which. Hopefully the details will be better and that we can tweak it ourselves for more detail.

The after picture isn't perfect--it could use some adjustment and tweaking in some areas, such as the bloom of the emissive texture on the monitors. But despite those issues, the after picture is still substantially better than the before picture by miles. The before picture is garbage.

welp tbh for this and previous I do notice "technical quality" improvement on the "after" shot - but I still liked the darker variants more :/

I have been impressed with HALF the after pictures, and Very Unimpressed with the other half. This is space we are talking about, not everything is going to look like a strip mall with it's lighting. Please keep this in mind as this last weeks put me off yet again, feels like it belongs on an old NES system more than my Computer. I have to ask why you fel like you need to change all the lighting when my Telaxian still has no lower body at all in Any Swimsuit...an issue I posted Lat Year. Priorities seem slightly missplaced at times.

No, I much prefer the before picture, detail like the floor is actually gone in the after picture and sadly, it feels like a strip mall now.

I mostly agree with you, but imo the monitors have the brightness set way too high, which results in them appearing washed out and undetailed compared to the before image.

Yup, I would like the Before to be a bit lighter, but really, it's alot better than the After. The After is all washed out.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

They shouldn't be wasting time on this when there are bugs that have been around for years that they refuse to acknowledge ( or if they do they ignore reports ), not to mention unfixed C-Store ships that a lot of customers buy with real cash.

It's not a waste of time, this is being done to bring STO's visuals up to par for its console release.
PC players getting this is a bonus.

I am sure that all the old Mission bugs they have been fixing recently are related to getting them up to snuff for the Consoles as well.
