He played the part of Chekov ... Chekov is already in game .... and Mr. Yelchin probably never signed any contract with Cryptic to allow them to use his likeness.
Dear Perfect World Entertainment please make STO a character in honor of Anton Yelchin.
i see a problem with this, the Chekov played by Anton Yelchin and the Chekov played by Walter Koenig are actually the same character, from a movie perspective they had to use a different actor to play the role in the recent films as it was based on the characters coming together for the first time and they could obviously not use Walter Koenig as he would have been far too old to play the young Chekov.
in a game perspective we already know they are including the Chekov character played by Walter Koenig in the next expansion and the Chekov from the jj verse mission if he appears should look the same as Chekov from the ToS missions.
it would be highly unlikely for them to portray two versions of the same character modelled on different actors, the same would apply to any other characters you might meet in the jj verse missions.
it would also be disrespectful to use his image to for a totally different character.

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
as players can name their ships it is up to them to use this name if they think its a fitting tribute and providing the game allows its use I see no reason why not, if the devs feel its a fitting tribute to use this name on a NP ship that appears in a game mission that is up to them.

While the likeness rights issue is indeed a problem, I feel compelled to point out that with the inclusion of the Kelvin Timeline, we can indeed have both iterations of Chekov in-game with no story conflict.

so your basically saying its ok for the same person in an alternate realities to look totally different to each other.
in my opinion it is not but then again it doesn't matter what I think or you think its up to cryptic.
as far as I am concerned it will be tribute enough to have his name added to the ever growing list on the memorial.

I think Deferost Kelley or James Doohan didn't, either. I believe that this likeness right might no longer be relevant after the actor's death. Still, I think it might be too soon.

yet again if the devs feel its a fitting tribute to use this name in that way or any other that is up to them.
