Dilemma regarding AOY and starting a new toon

Now i'm probably one of those rare players in the game that has only ever had one toon that i've built up for 6 years. The other two factions have never really interested me....it would only mean me spending more money on zen anyway, so maybe it's a good thing that i've never delved into the ROM and KDF sides.

Anyway I know people seem to have a few issues with the whole AOY which i share, nevertheless i am excited to play the new faction/expansion as a TOS era experience will be too hard to ignore. But i am stuck on what toon to create...my current toon on holodeck i actually already roleplay him as a alien temporal agent from the future mirror universe. I wanted to create like TOS version of him but since he's an alien and that option isnt going to be avalible, i'm wondering what to create instead? I know this probably a non issue to most but i always liked the idea of creating a character that fits in with the current universe and storyline. Even if the alien option does change i can't even call him the same thing since you can't have same name twice on the server. Any ideas?

His brother perhaps? Trying to find the long lost older bro thats gone missing/Awol?

To better disguise himself even vs the deepest scans, he underwent /quantumsoemthing/-genetic reconfiguration to perfectly blend in?

If it's just the "TOS-Experience" you're loooking for, the solution is quite easy, just play the 6 new TOS-Missions ... enjoy ... and go back to your regular toon ... because after that the "TOS-Faction" basically turns into a regular FED ... replaying the same content, with the same ships etc ...

If you really want to play an "TOS-Alien" up to Level 60 however ... I guess the best solution would be creating a human i.E. and make use of some of the costumes with an helmet, to conceal your toons "true" identity, basically just pretending he is "Alien" ... that's about it ...

My TOS crew is going to consist of me, my wife, and my 3 kids. Boring, I know, but I already used my best gimmick on my Delta (that would be the Vorta in my sig).

This is from their initial announcement concerning the AOY expansion: "In addition to the ability to create a brand new Star Trek: The Original Series Starfleet captain, we will be introducing a new episode arc for players of every faction, the Temporal Initiative Resistance Reputation, a Temporal Operative Primary Specialization along with brand new Bridge Officer powers.

So...you don't have to create a brand new character at all and you will still get new content. By the way...I'm just like you, OP, but I play Klingon. I have a level 60 Klingon commander and I rarely play anything else. I have two other characters, a Federation and another Klingon, but I'm not on them much.

I wouldn't say "at all", since the first 6 TOS-Missions (including the "Temporal Agent - Event") are still "TOS-only" ... but he could still play these missions with a new toon from Level 1-10, and then go back to his regular toon to play the other "cross-faction" - stuff ...

PS : I guess the OP is mostly after the whole "TOS-Experience", not really that interested in anything else ... hence missing out on the KDF/Rom - Leveling Experience ... or any new "Cross-Faction-Stuff" for that matter (correct me if I'm wrong)

If this is indeed the case...this isn't good and this new AOY expansion is a total loss to players like me. Very disturbing. I'm not afraid to spend money on the game and do it regularly, but don't force me to create new characters to experience new content. I thought, based on their initial announcement, that existing players with existing characters would get something. But if what you're saying is true...not good.

"Something" (probably more Temporal-Na'kuhl-Stuff" + new "Temporal Reputation" etc) ... but not "everything" ...

My suggestion is make whichever choice you like the most. Human, Andorian, Vulcan, Tellarite. But make that the foundation/ancestor of your current character. And weave the story from there.

    It might work.

That's fine...but don't exclude me entirely if I don't feel like making a new character. That's just wrong. If they do something for existing characters, that's ok.

Honestly the stupidity of the race restrictions has killed any enthusiasm I had for AoY. I might do whatever "faction-agnostic" content is put out on my existing characters, but I'm not going to bother making a new character for the specific AoY stuff if I'm not allowed to make a character I want to actually play just because the same people who cheerfully filled ESD space with Krenim Time Ships and Romulan-Borg Cruisers and Tholian Carriers are now piously declaring their devotion to maintaining the purity of Trek.

I just thought of a gimmick idea I've always had but never used, that would fit in nicely with the "Temporal Agent" theme. Basically, at least one member of the crew from each series' ship. Depending on how you feel about canon, these could be main show characters with misspelled names, or just random unseen crew members from each ship, but either way they would be wearing the uniform from the ship/time period they are from.

There ARE more missions than just the 'SIX' quoted. Ignore that poster.

I always say I won't make a lot of toons but then I do. And can never bring myself to get rid of them. But they do come in handy for easy events like the current CC one for easy rewards.
  • johnnymo1johnnymo1 Member Posts: 697 Arc User
make one just for any bonus rewards like the delta recruits had, then just doff with it if you want

I'd say it won't be too hard creating the character you want. Remember the tech the Na'kuhl infiltrator used in one of the last missions? You could always pretend using the same tech.
So you create a human, vulcan, whatever in TOS and just play out like it's an alien in disguise. In my opinion this could also add some spice to your roleplaying - since you could create scenarios where that disguise is in danger to fail and ruin everything.

All my Toons are the same person. Atlantean that left earth for adventures and historical research of ancestry. Ended up with the KDF empire for a bit at the start (KDF arc up until Alpha” ) Moves to Virinat colony (Rom arc up until Turnabout) Joins Federation ( full fed arc minus wasteland) TOS Sub faction arc just goes back in time to do stuff.

Six, sixteen, sixty...whatever. Point is it's still just another origin story, no "TOS experience" beyond the initial episodes, so it's possible to just make an alt to play those episodes then go back to your regular toon without losing anything.

It does appear there's a lot of stuff in the expansion for old toons, too...but thats [REDACTED].
