How do we stay "canon" without buying the Temporal Pack?

I've had access to the Connie since pre-purchase Beta, but how would we get access to the 2-5 Tier ships of that era without the Temporal pack? Are the freebie ships also going to be 23rd Century for the special leveling arc?

That's a good question, but presumably they'll have lesser versions of the T2-T5 craft in the pack given as freebies, like the leveling craft for the Romulan Faction.

Yes, I've been assuming (dangerous, I know...) that there will be free, faction specific ships as you rank up, just like there are with every other faction. We've already seen the starter ship, the question is, what ships will we get at Tiers 2-4? And will we get class-specific ship choices at each tier? TMP Cruiser is T2 and already in game, will that be a choice, or we still be in TOS timeline at that point?

I suspect the next blog involving ships will be announcing the leveling ships, and will answer these questions.

The temporal ships are hardly canon for the 23rd century.

it was actually said in the podcast that you don't need to buy the ship pack if you don't want to as you will get free ships as usual as you level up.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

They may also use the holo-emiter from mission "Night of the Comet", that changed players ship look to one from the past... that way we could still use our modern ships to do the special missions...

nice. I hope they expand upon the difference in the ships then so that I can get a better view of how worht it the pack could be.

You know they could just use the normal FED leveling ships but replace the costumes with TOS appropriate ones.

I suppose the T5 Kumari and D'kyr would also qualify - as pre-Federation designs still active in the 26th century, they're presumably also around in the TOS era.

Not quite. The T5 Kumari and D'kyr are retrofits of the Enterprise ships. They might look the same as the 22nd Century ships, but they are packed full of 25th Century technology which disqualifies them from being a pre-Federation design. The Andorian Light Escort ship would qualify, but it is the rarest STO ship since it requires purchasing a $200 pack from Neverwinter.

Of course, it is up to the OP to decide if they qualify or not for their game style. They could go for just TOS ships or include Enterprise ships and not care if the ship is full of 25th Century technology.

That's easy ... since the TOS-Stuff will probably end at Level 10 ... and you'll replay the same old stuff as "Temporal Agent" ... so just use the "Utilty Cruiser" or "T1 Connie" ... and you're set ... the real question would be why would you fly around in TOS Ships after LEvel ~10 ...

Eh, I'm aware of their purview - but in the context of AoY, they're no more anomalous than the T5 Ranger Class BC already advertised. It would not be unreasonable to assume that there were Kumari / D'kyr - hulled ships active in the TOS era if their hull designs were in service more than a century either side of that era.

    Easy, " Re-Write! "

    Happy I couldn't help. =3

No way it could be that simple!

Given that there is only 8 missions in the 'past' and then we are shunted to the current time period (as it stands now on tribble) the progression ships are canon to the period where the character is operating without having any new ones. The only things people will be missing by not buying the pack is if they choose to rerun the starter mission in an 'old era' t2 -t6' ship as they will not have any. At some point though I would not be surprised if we got a holo-emitter ship device to overlay an old style in case we do get to go 'home' at some point.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

if i can get into some of those missions on tribble it could make or break if i should consider any of these packs.

Will use the free ships, as only playing it for the "feel".

They're running the update already on Tribble? Is it Fed only (as some have claimed) or can you roll a Klink or Rom for the respective TOS faction?

Edit: OK so they haven't posted on Tribble yet. I really do wish Cryptic would stop giving us only a little tidbit of information and leaving us with a crapload of unanswered questions. Trek Anniversary or not, Blizzard's Overwatch is gonna be HUGE for this Summer, and Cryptic needs to give us players an informed good reason why we should be spending our time on STO during the Summer vacation.

they are running PART of it already for lifers... and its not "as some have claimed" it is starfleet only as Cryptic told everyone it was. Do make an effort to read the official sources of info

Because they are two completely different games? I don't get people who claim they substitute STO for WOW or vice versa, that doesn't make sense.

Not to whine, but STO is supposed to be Trek WoW. And for the update I was originally hoping that it would be a whole leveling arc set in the TOS vein. Now I hear we only get about 8 missions and the rest after that are same old 24th Century grinding bore? Not looking forward to that, and not enough motivation for me to buy a Temporal Pack.

That's however a completely different point pig-2.gif Now that makes sense. In the previous post however it sounded like you'd like a reason to play STO over WOW and that is hard to justify, because if you want WOW, sword and sorcery, you're going to play WOW and if you like Star Trek you probably play STO over WOW. I find it hard to think that people would play both equally and one or the other just because it comes with a bigger update as to me personally my current mood and preference of a scenario strongly influences what game I like to play.

Regarding the leveling, I'm a bit worried as well. Still, we don't see anything final on Tribble so, who knows.

Umm ... the only thing overwatch (the game he mentioned) and WoW (the game you mentioned) have in common is they are both developed by blizzard. I've only seen a little footage but I believe overwatch is a third person shooter multi-player game.

That said, I regularly rotate between STO, WoW, and SWTOR as I get burned out on one. Thankfully though, AoY and Legion (wows new expansion) are separated by a couple months, so there won't be any competition for my time
