Playable Na'khul ships are too noisy

To get further in completing my Tier 6 Science Vessel collection, I considered getting the new Na'Khul Science Vessel. But to spare me buyer's remorse, I tried it first on Tribble (which still required buying it on Holodeck first, since it's currently not in the Tribble Lobi store). I found out that while it flies nicely and is very maneuverable (and battle cloak on science vessels is rare, ony the Rom Dyson Destroyers could do that before, and of course you can kinda fake the Science Vessel part on a Bird of Prey) and all - it's also extremely loud. The ship has a constant background sound that just turned me off. :(

I guess I won't unpack it on Holodeck and sell it on the Exchange in the end.

Mustrum "Hmm. Maybe I shouldn't post this, to not turn off potential buyers?" Ridcully

Thanks for the warning -- I was thinking of getting it for my Romulan science captain since there are no faction science ships and these are plasma-focused ships.

It's too bad the tutorial never goes over how to turn the sound off for this game. It makes everything much better.

I want to have sound. Audio feedback can also be important, and ambience sound is nice to get in the "mood". But I don't need it to be loud. Especially not if it's constant. If someone shoots at me with a nasty uber weapon, sure, play some noise. My ship is gliding through space?

As a Science Vessel, it's certainly excellent, and it plays more traditional than the Paradox or the Annorax. The one thing I can't get used to with those two is their low turn rate. But that's what makes them Dreadnaughts (and the exra weapon and the hangar bay), I suppose. Anyway, the Na'Khul Science Vessel competes with the Scryer in turn rate, and thus it's top notch in that regard. But the Annorax and Paradox are not as noisy. ;) (Which isn't to say that you'd be better getting those for your Romulan character. The Krenim Science Vessel might work out better if you have that unlcoked, even if it's fair calling those two ships a bit overpowered versions of science vessels... If you like well-turning SVs, they are just not much fun)

Good to know. I haven't tried them out yet (still tribble testing the skill revamp), but it reminds me of the Olaen's interior which had a constant static noise. Sure, it may be thematic with their insectoidness hive and all, but also over the top, and definitely not a bridge I'd want to hang out on. Don't recall if the static was located on the far wall or everywhere at equal volume. I sold it immediately without looking back. It's appearance wasn't my thing, pets don't give enough to make up for its loss in turn rate, set bonus with Narcine seems too passive for my linking, and the T5U Ar'Kif somehow is much more acceptable especially with its Rom battlecloak. Plus it was a Cryptic gift giveaway too minus the upgrade and fleet modules making the Jhuael that much more tempting.

I'd hang on to it anyways in case more people report this same problem and they fix it - it is a cross-faction lobi ship after all and not some KDF C-Store one, so there may be hope yet. Pricing on it has never dropped below 199M either that I've seen and it's still regarded as underpriced, so so much for the replies claiming no one will care for battlecloak while Cryptic boxes up KDF & Klingon factions in boxes and lobi stores. At this rate of power creep and balance neglect I'm fully expecting future science KDF & Rom to come with built-in enhanced battle cloak, but I digress.

When do ships ever make a sound beyond engines and weapons? That's weird... go under sound and disable the fx and you'll be good.

I got the Na'kuhl Raider. The sound is irritating to say the least. What a shame because it's an awesome ship. Cryptic please do something about this incredibly annoying sound that adds nothing to the game.

It makes a lovely organic sounding humming noise. I think it fits rather well with the ship personally and i love it. When you're in the heat of battle you don't notice it at all.

Is it a sound that would be overridden by the FX of a deflector/shield/engine? The new cosmetic slots might be a workaround, if so...

It's a pulsating hum from whatever powers the thing. It's got a weird spinning orb thing for an engine and I guess that makes the noise. It's meant to be futuristic as if the power is from tech we don't understand yet and I think the noise fits quite nicely.

I think some deflector noises might be just as loud, assimilated stuff makes a fair bit of noise.

Honestly I only really hear it when zoomed right in to my ship.

we call em darts because they are pointy. everytime i see that na'kuhl sci ship i think its a retro paint job on a wraith fighter.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

It would be nice if ship gear that emits sound had a "Disable audio" option in the same way that gear which changes appearance has "Disable visuals". That run-down, badly looped refrigerator noise that the Breen and the Sol Defense engines make can get old.

3 solid options now... this noisy one, the paradox, and the anniversary are all very good. Im using paradox... its hard to argue against another weapon slot as a romulan.

heard one of these buggers in sector space when I came out of an Argala run beside it... that IS obnoxiously loud

OMG I thought I was the only one? I named mine 'Wraith'

If only we had a shield with blue visuals...

    Try the Nukara (Tholian) shield.

It's nice but the red/orange shows through ALL shields even the Dyson has a hint of the bright colors underneath. They designed it this way on purpose and it is pretty cool from an art standpoint.

The sound is a bit irritating, that and there's virtually no customization options for the ship. Went with a Paradox over the Daemosh since battle cloak and the console can't compete with the extra weapon slot and the Paradox's trait. That and the 3 piece Temporal console set. I can deal with the lower turn rate, I got it up to near 40 with consoles, traits, and Engine power.

You would have thought it would be quieter what with it being a stealth ship and all? No point having a cloak if the enemy can hear you coming!

I bought the science version, but can't unbox it because of the overflow bug since the patch launched. I hope the noise isn't as bad as people are saying. Other than that the stats are better than my fleet dauntless: +2% more shields, 0.5 higher impulse modifier, more versatile boff seating, lower inertia, +2 turn rate, and a battle cloak.

You can actually hear the same sound when you approach one of those Na'Khul Red Alerts. The closer you are to your ship, the louder it is. I like to look at my ship from up close, so it's loud. If you zoom out for better situational awareness in combat, it might not be a such big deal.

Your right it is kind of obnoxious... i like the extra work they did to make them unique but a disable option would be nice.

It would be very nice if this sound was replaced with something a bit softer and less repetitive sounding, as a new and otherwise happy owner of a Na'Kuhl science vessel, it's my only complaint is how harsh that noise is on my vulpine ears.
  • nateham101#2745 nateham101 Member Posts: 420 Arc User
Too noisy and too ugly. Not worth the price and definitely not worth opening this worthless lock box over. If I want a decent science vessel, ill stick with my Annorax. If I want a decent raider craft, ill stick with my Baltim Heavy Raider and its 5 forward weapon slots. If I want a decent cruiser, ill stick with the T6 fleet arbiter or Tholian Dreadnought Cruiser.

Okay so I opened my Na'kuhl starship on Tribble and you have to be very zoomed in on your ship to hear the engine sound at all. Maybe it is because the science ship has only one engine, but it wasn't loud at all. You can't hear it when zoomed out even a little bit. I don't have a problem with it.

    @samt1996

At least they offered alternatives to the ships being discussed, and since the topic is about them being too loud, they are actually on topic.

Your post, on the other hand, offers no input to the discussion.

Guess whose opinion I value less right now? Hint: It isn't necessarily not yours.

    i opened my na'kuhl

there is a noise, louder as you zoom in closer, it's not that annoying as some make it out, can kinda think of it as a soft thrum.

in battle you don't even really hear it over everything else going off
