From 5am-2pm? Is there more than just what was mentioned in the patch notes?

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
From 5am to 2pm that the server is down for mait is pretty big for what the update notes are saying. Even with trying to "improve server stability" that most games also include in mait. The downtime doesn't really make up for that.

So why such a long downtime?

    They are doing network maintenance in addition to the normal game maintenance.

    they are also implementing a vast update across everything they own and they musta hit a snag implimenting the new system

    Having been on a team that does network maintenance and upgrades, some things are not as cut and dry as they appear to be when you plan them out on virtual paper. Something usually comes up, and, depending on the nature of the issue, can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days to resolve ( the days one is an extreme issue, but when someone doesn't tell you about a legacy network bypassing the DMZ inside your B2 and hitting B1 directly....).

    I'd rather they take the time and do it right. Two days of downtime to remove latency issues would be a gem! Now, lets do the same for the game client :) PLEASE!

    I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

    Well they managed to introduce the connection issues the patch notes said the extended downtime was supposed to cure.

    I am guessing the line "•Platform-Wide Networking Update" covers most of the extra down time.

    When I think about everything we've been through together,

    maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

     and if that journey takes a little longer,

    so we can do something we all believe in,

     I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
