Good thing I found this. I was confused at first as I had just quit the game after stacking up some doff jobs, and thought it had decided to patch one of the other two clients (the testing ones). I'm always willing to pre-patch now and save myself a headache trying to log in tomorrow.

Why would it be prepatching now? It doesn't release until the 12th.
Probably to make sure as many players as possible get the pre-patch and reduce the whinging about the huge patch and/or delays on launch day
Though I'm sure there will be plenty threads incoming that will require huge supplies of snacks and sundries!
Funny, mine didn't prepatch at all... only thing patching is the Tribble server, but I haven't actually patched that in at least a month and a half, so that's why.
you holy bat TRIBBLE guy. I was in the middle of counterpoint and the whole game just froze and locked up when they turned on pre PATCH. AND because the bug the makes my game crash every time i log off mean i won't even beable to get the prepatch done
I just realized...
I'm on vacation next week.
How convenient.

I thought launch day would be pretty quiet. What with 90% of players taking the week off waiting for the very few whales to spend 100's of dollars testing the new skill system. Then the rest of the players following the 1 cookie cutter build.
Or have we all forgotten the money grab update already?
FYI for those that don't know... DONT stop it, let it pre-patch... It helps during launch day...
it does help if you prepatch however you do not need to prepatch on the first day you can prepatch any time before the 11.5 update is released or not at all if you don't want to, it will just take you a little longer to install the update when it comes.
Took my computer half an hour to get through it. :P
you don't have to install the prepatch all in one go either, you can do a little each day but it is best to do it in one hit if you can providing you have the time.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

people that care about builds have been testing them to death on Tribble already. They will be good to go on launch day. Everyone else.. yeah, they'll probably just pick random stuff or wait for a build to be posted wherever. I don't think the first group are going to be spending big money on respecs, and I don't think the second group would either. If this is a "money grab update" to get us all to buy respecs it isn't going to work like that

Indeed. Pity that they do not seem to realize (or care about) it.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

Most games do this. So you won't have so many people at once trying to patch it. And possible cause many server crashes. Even in WoW they did this. Plus this will be easier on your next time to play. So you will wait a bit then start playing. Over waiting for hours for it specially during peak hours. This is handy on the large patches.

It's a bit like prepping your breakfast and stashing it in the fridge before going to sleep
With the pre-patch, we could say, technically, that S11.5 has been released Those who allow the launcher to do this will have the files beforehand; the game client is just not using them yet. This'll make the patch a snappy process (locally) and reduce server load on PWE/Cryptic's side.

The game should really prompt before it starts patching upon exit. When I exit a program I expect it to stop running.
I disagree. It's perfect this way: you don't have to wait for the whole patch to have downloaded when you're impatient, and just want to play right now; and then, when you obviously no longer want to play (exit), it does a part of the pre-fetching for you.

Unless I have something else to do that requires the resources being used or I have to go somewhere and need my computer. Continuing to run and initiating large downloads when told to quit is not appropriate behaviour for any software.
Couldn't wait for the daytime to do this, when no one is on? 9 pm to 2 am (EST) is prime playing time. Warships or Mech Warrior I guess - flips coin. Laters......

And now I'm officially nervous...
I say I'm nervous and the very next comment is "Hurrah!!!"

Is there a hidden fan dance emote the launcher can do to attract the goodness?

Pre patch usually occurs one week prior to a season or .5 season release. This has been the norm for many years now.

That's when you deposit money into a bank and it's in hard currency right?
Never-mind, that's precaching...
Prepatching is when you sow a patch onto a new blanket, just encase it incurs a future tear or burn.
