[Rant] They give away federation T1 and T2 ships and everyone complains... They give away cross-faction skill points and everyone complains... They decide to give TWO DAYS to collect each free item and everyone complains...
I know I'm not the only one who is sick of the complaining, but holy shift! People, just shut up! No one but you cares that you missed the first few give aways... If you don't stay close enough to the game to get the annual giveaway, then you're not close enough to the game enough to use it...
Please understand that you will never be happy, and that Cryptic cannot and will not please everyone! Get over yourselves! [/Rant]

Your point is exactly what everyone needs. Don't apologize for speaking the truth, friend.
I think the OP may be referring to it not being added to this news section until late in the giveaway: http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/index
Currently it's showing only the third day giveaway and none of the previous items. But, as others pointed out, they just updated and reposted the same blog.
It had been announced from day 1 on the forums in the news section here though.
What they could have done was keep the previous items listed in the blog but have red text that says [Ended]. This way people could see what they missed without having to ask around, or look through comments in the official forum thread for the giveaway.
The Arc news section is a bit neglected. http://www.arcgames.com/en/arc-news/tag/arc-patch-notes They hardly ever post any patch notes for the Arc client. Latest notes at this time was posted Nov. 23, 2015, but there have been several updates to the client since then.
The Arc STO news page had giveaway 1 posted there on Thursday morning. Then they replaced it with giveaway 2 on Saturday morning. Then they replaced it with giveaway 3 today.
Basically, OP had to ignore the Arc main site and forums and facebook and twitter (and ArsTechnica STO thread and probably reddit and some other MMO news sites) for the last 4 days to only hear about it today.
I suppose it's a sort of semi-legitimate complaint that there is no "mystery giveaways coming soon!" pre-announcement weeks in advance for those that only show up once every few weeks.
OK. I don't know what the OP is talking about then as to which news site didn't have the info on day 1. I admit I almost never go to the Arc news site for STO and get all my news on the official forums here because Trendy is pretty good at keeping us informed about stuff.
Maybe it would help if the OP could be more specific as to which news site it was and post a link. All sources seem to point out that it had been posted since day 1 on the proper news sections. Perhaps the OP means he didn't get the email notification on day 1? I think I got it on day 1 but deleted it since I don't bother reading emails on STO and, as I said, get my news on the forums (checking here on a daily basis).
Edit: I bet that's what it was. Getting emails notifying us of special events and sales sometimes don't get to me until after it had already started. I can't remember exactly, but I think I got an email saying the anniversary event was here about a day or 2 after the event was already going.
This has been an issue for a really long time. I wish they would improve things for people who prefer the emails to get their STO news.
What emails? I only get news from the message board and launcher.

I got all three so no issue there. I get the reminders from their Twitter feed, but I will tell you that the different tweets each day stated that the new award was available but it ALWAYS linked back to the original Neil Falconer giveaway.
While not in this case per se, there have been inaccuracies and ambiguities in a number of News Blogs posted on the Arc website over the last year.
If this were an American Football game, there would be a fifteen yard penalty for 'piling on'. Enough already.

The link in the GNN News Announcement Thread does point you to the correct giveaway News Blog as it changed, unlike the link in the Twitter tweet. A couple of times there was a disconnect between the Arc Website Announcement News Blog and the GNN Announcements. Some things in Arc didn't have a corresponding GNN thread.

And anyone that tries to come up with an excuse to what he just said in the quoted post clearly is trying to come up with a reason for why their complaining is justified when in reality it is not.

Perhaps rather than editing the first blog in an event like this one, they need to post a new blog for each level.
First, this will avoid misconceptions like those that spawned this thread. Rather than look at the news page and seeing nothing but the latest day's offerings, they'd see the past posts as well.
Secondly, it would be a good reference to those who knew there was a giveaway, but missed a day and wanted to look at what they missed. I know we can look in the GNN section at the official thread, but like the blog, they recycle it and you have to wade through pages and pages of whining, thank yous and speculation about the next day's giveaway.

what is the point of seeing what was offered that you have missed, this would be quite cruel in actual fact like rubbing salt in a wound.
if players have missed a giveaway then I see nothing to be gained from saying this is what you could have got if you had been paying attention, its enough to know that they have missed items and this is plainly evident by the title of the latest post I.E. "First Contact Giveaway Day 3".
I really cant see how anyone can have misconceptions over this in the first place, I think its pretty self explanatory to anyone who actually reads what they are looking at instead of just giving the post a cursory look and filling in the blanks with their own imaginings.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Thank you everyone for one of the most entertaining threads I've read in a while. Still can't tell if the OP is trolling or not and that adds to the entertainment value, well done.
Some part of me feels as if we're only a few snarky posts away from a lock, but another part of me wants to get out the popcorn, kick back, and watch the show. Actually, those parts are the same.

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
its easy to miss an event if you don't check the news page daily, I nearly missed the last mirror event for that very reason due to my own complacency, luckily I only missed the first 2 days but it could have been a lot worse so I sure learned my lesson that day and make a point of checking the news every day now.
you cant blame cryptic for that though, its up to you to keep up with events by checking to see if anything is going on, if you miss out you only have yourself to blame.

It's been up in the launcher since they gave away Falconer, they've just recycled it (as noted by previous posters).
Besides, even if it weren't, how hard can it be to check the GNN subforum at least once a day to keep up with current events?
quite true, I see it there myself.
I don't rely on the chance of seeing whats on the launcher though its so easy to miss if you are not paying attention.
your better off having a quick peek at the news page before you launch sto, you are less likely to miss an important announcement if you check there first.

FYI, the main news feed still works in RSS - you can use that to get notified right away of any updates if coming to the website daily is too much for you to remember or you are too busy.
That's not right. OP requested someone specifically and personally reach out to him/her in order to advise him/her of the changes in STO.
Actually, they did not request this is any of their posts. They did say some things which would be better not to have said, but they never asked for someone to personally inform them.
