I enter crafting material prices into a spreadsheet and it tells me if I should bother crafting the items, or sell the materials and buy the item. Alternatively, if something has a high enough markup, I'll craft that instead, sell it and use the profits to buy what I want.

I have a spreadsheet to track assets and character progress in areas that interest me.
I've got 12 maxed out toons and I use spreadsheets to track their progression through specialisation, to track mission related space and ground sets per toon, which masteries have been completed, reputation marks and elite marks and so on.
Although the number of my toons is modest, it's hard to keep track of which toon has done what and it's more time efficient to keep records. Also helps to focus gaming time.

Why do I think you are crazy? Because anyone who is willing to put that much effort into a game, has not understood the idea of a game.
