Need a little DemoRecord help

I have two issues right now with DemoRecord, which are making it difficult to use.
First, I've found that while I'm able to record a demo without a problem, the Gameclient executable will crash immediately into the "Cryptic" splash screen when I try playback. So far, I think I've traced this back to the fact that I have STO installed to both ARC and Steam. Frankly the only reason I have it installed to Steam is because I needed it to apply a Steam card to a Zen purchase. Otherwise I really only launch through ARC. I've tried deleting the Steam game files, but that didn't help. I have managed to work around it by recording my demos and then specifically playing them back through the Steam location GameClient, but I'd rather not. If anybody has seen a similar issue, and knows a good fix, let me know. Otherwise, I suppose I'm looking at completely purging and reinstalling STO from my system, using only ARC or Steam exclusively.

Second, has anybody got a list of specific VFX settings to disable while DemoRecording to give the cleaner look to game play? I've seen a few reddit threads or blogs mention it, but no real checklists per se. Any guidance there is much appreciated.
Thanks!

I havnt had this problem before, then again I havnt tried using demorecord in a while. I'll give it a try and just record a quick CEA because I vaguely recall hearing rumors it was going to be removed. Hoping that was just a bad dream. Off the bat though Im gonna give some basic advice that maybe you simple overlooked. Im assuming you've checked to see that the demorecord file is in the correct game directory? Like you're trying to open it using the Arc STO install but the demorecord is in the Steam Dir? Also Steam doesnt always delete everything so maybe try going into your Steam game install directory (you can find it by going to Steam->Settings->Downloads) and deleting all the STO files yourself.

Im not sure what you mean by "clean" but if you mean make it look more like a cinematic and not from a game with skill effects like Attack Patters constantly popping up then sorry im not sure. I've also been wanting an option to disable those. The only thing I can tell you is to disable the directional shield FX in the "basic" tab for the in-game options.

Good thoughts, thank you. Yeah, I'm looking for that more cinematic look. I've got the shield FX disabled, but it's still so dirty with all of the other FX.

Alright so I just did a quick CEA and the demorecord works fine. Maybe your files are out of date? Most of the time a demorecord wont work after a patch.

I'm having the same problem too, when I start up the recording thru Demo Launcher it immediately crashes, I was wondering if anyone could post a link to a Demo Launcher download that is reliable.

Do you also run both Steam and ARC? I'm about certain it has something to do with the game paths and a mix-up between Steam/Arc locations. Try changing the game location path in DemoLauncher to be whichever Steam/Arc location it's NOT using right now. That seems to work for me, but I have to always copy my Demo's into the Steam path and make sure my Steam install is updated even though I don't usually play it.
