Back during the 5th anniversary event, I had major computer problems that I couldn't fix...so imagine how I felt after managing to fix them only after the event was over. Made a kobali toon for it and everything, but alas...it was perhaps not meant to be. Now I know I'm not the only one with such a story, where they missed out on one ship or another, and I know they're going for the unique "I was there to get this ship" feeling...but it that isn't the end of the story for many such ships.
Many such event ships can get be bought on the zen store, from fleets of certain progression tiers, even the lobi store. And yet, the kobali samar is one of those ships that isn't getting such a return?
I would like to have the kobali samar, even if some people seem to think it's not that great of a ship. I eventually remade the kobali toon for the delta recruitment event, but it still doesn't have the ship I want for it. Everyone has a ship they feel is perfect or would be perfect for a specific captain, in the case of my alien/kobali captain...it's the samsar.
There is also the fact that those of us who lost out on the event, won't get to complete the kobali space set because the warp core is event ship only. I think I read somewhere they considered adding the kobali warp core and singularity warp drive to the lobi store sometime in the future to circumvent that problem, so perhaps that last point is moot. Either way, I know I wasn't the only one who missed out on such event ships due to one thing or another...especially if the reasons the prevented us from getting such things were beyond our control.
I don't care if it's 900 lobi, 3000 or so zen...100k-1M or so fleet credits and 10 fleet ship modules, I still want the kobali samsar for my alien/kobali captain. I really want them to bring it back, so I can have that perfect ship for a special toon.

Well I never... :P
3 years ago, if you didn't want a ship, there was no incentive to work for it, since all it would do is take up space. Thus i never considered trying for the breen or the risian ships.
But now, with admiralty and dry dock, the playing field has changed. Those ships suddenly have value even if you didnt want to personally fly them, so it almost makes me feel retro-actively short changed, because if i'd had the foresight to predict Admiralty i would TOTALLY have got all those ships back then.
^this
Most threads are asking for the sake of getting the console the Samsar comes with.
This one, they actually want the ship.
But in the end it is the same thing, because you cannot get the console without getting the ship.
I suppose one possible solution for those players for everyone is to make these ships available in the Lobi Store for something like 1,000 Lobi (since it is an Event ship). However, I am positive that idea has already been brought up before. But that goes against Cryptic "exclusivity" policy.
Well, they have put reward ships in the past into the Lobi store, the FE reward Obelisk Carrier, the 2014 Anniversary Ship..... so this policy isn't exactly something they have strictly adhered to,
Well, the concept of "exclusivity" for event ships is rather new and removing those "old" ships from the Lobi store would probably set off some forum rage.
Edit: I am against having to pay extra for the console's these event ships come with, and I stand by earlier statements I have made about not purchasing the big bundles for this reason.
Event periods run for about 6-8 weeks at most, require spending less than 3 minutes of your day for about 20 days to EARN your event ship. There are 3 events in a year with a different event ship each time. The event ship is EXCLUSIVE to THAT event of that season. Sorry if if that sounds tough but, if you snooze (I.E., out of the country, computer problems, didnt know STO existed, etc...) you loose. Real life lesson implemented here.
Better luck next time.
I am fortunate enough (read NOT privileged) to have been present and earned all 10 of the event ships offered since the 4th anniversary event.
As my life gets fuller i may not be as fortunate in the future but ill understand, i wasnt there. Sh☆t happens.
Allow me to let you in on a little secret: it's all about keeping you online and playing. The removal of last year's tokens, the exclusivity of the Event rewards, it's all so you'll come online and keep playing at set intervals throughout the year. And the more you are online (as the marketing mantra goes), the more likely you'll spend RL money. As simple as that. Offering the players a way to not be online for a while, in Geko's eyes, puts Cryptic at risk of losing you for ever (or for you to become disinterested). Sad, but true.
You snooze you lose? Life lesson? Who the hell wants that in a video game? Keep in mind that some people are paying for this service. They are customers, not fresh recruits in the Army. This particular thread was posted by a customer who was perfectly willing to jump through hoops for something that should have been given away, but was blocked from doing so by events beyond their control. Why should they suffer? I know that "the customer is always right" isn't very popular nowadays, but do you really think "the customer should suffer at every opportunity" is the way to go?
Your understanding of basic concepts is totally backwards.
Face it, the 'exclusivity' is really a crock... if Cryptic thinks they can get more players logged in for another event, they'll do it. And getting X ship 6 to 12+ months after it originally came out puts it behind the power creep curve anyway and most of the ships gotten during the original event are now sitting in dry-dock.
This echoes my opinion perfectly ... why do so many people demand this exclusive access to things? I mean seriously, why people care AT ALL if new or returning players have the chance to somehow grind out or otherwise obtain the same ship they have? I have the Kobali and the Krenim, and while I find the Krenim kinda "meh", the Kobali comes with both a trait and a console that are fairly effective "Oh S***!!!!" buttons if you can fit them into your build. I have no desire to deny anyone access to that, and would love to see a system that made them obtainable again.
So how do you serve Cryptic's interests and a customer's interest?
Here is one idea (which some might not like but which would get me to open my wallet). An event like the anniversary event but slightly shorter. You earn a certain amount of vouchers (lets say it is 800 and they are earned 40 at a time). All event ships are available for 800 vouchers + 1 "event module". 1 event module costs 2000 to 2500 zen.
Cryptic keeps players online and playing. Cryptic makes a few bucks selling zen. Customer gets an opportunity to obtain a previously unobtainable event ship of their choice.
The number and cost etc could be tweaked one way or the other.
The Samsar console as it is is good. But the boost it gives to the whole set of the Command Set is so innovative that people are actually pissed about it. You don't hear much about the Dyson Science set or even the current flagship set the 4th console ability is a "meh" and could easily be just over shadowed by the T5 consoles or just the plain Flagship set which gives decent bonuses but not that ground breaking.
But on the Case of the Command Battlecruiser's that god damn 4th bonus is really a big difference maker. 33% Weapons damage is not something to scuff about and the additional platforms and abilities of the platform is most welcome.
Granted most people would think those platforms are a "meh" or worthless but for some of us who actually dedicated on not just spamming the spacebar that is keybind, using those platform requires timing and skill to use.
You need to time the distance for the Phaser platform and mind the secs till it's fully deployed. You have to think if you are experiencing delay or lag before actually deploying it. Same goes for the 2 platforms but what sets an experienced CBC user from the rest is his/her awarness that BFAW of the opponent (PvP wise) has already been used and it's safe to deploy those platform.
On PvE those platforms are also life savers if you timed them correctly most specially against the Borg who drains your shield. Seriously aside from that the consoles themselves have nice passive traits and if you don't mind filling your 4 slots for engi on them (if you have the samsar's console) they are a good alternative and sometimes depending on what items you can access are even better.
I think the most people who are having problem with the Samsar right now are the returning players who have no idea what happened between the 3rd to 4th or even 5th Anniversary. Those who fell in love with the CBC's on first sight and had no idea about the "Exclusivity" thing and just bought the whole set are gonna be the victims here since.
In my case I listened to others about just buying the Presidio but I later found out that getting the other 2 (which btw is great IMHO) would get me a nice set. So I bought the other 2 individually and was going to wait for the Summer event to get the ship. Then Boom just before January started the announced the "Exclusivity" Shenanigans. That's 9k of Zen in the drain. Zen that isn't even bought by Dil. Seriously when i got back last year I went on a ship buying spree. Buying Fed ships like the Arbiter, Phantom, Yamato and the 3 CBC's all of them on full price since there wasn't a sale at that time. I was thinking of purchasing the Alita and Hestia but change my mind when they announced the "Exclusivity" and when the Dil exchange sky rocketed. this is because I had a feeling that this might affect the population of the game.
Yes I understand you want people to play the game but putting something that is actually good to something that is a one time thing and not even planning ahead or giving warning to new buyer or returning ones about the ship is kinda idiotic. What can't you guys give a fair warning pop-up when a person is about to buy a ship that has an actual important drawback? Seriously?
Lastly the way Cryptic did things, and if they actually brought it back for lobi with insane lobi price tag it will be meaningless to most. It's already hard for new players to even get into the game the way things are now most specially F2P players. I have some friends who are actually subs and some actually pays for ship but aren't subs like me who quit this game already because of the things going on in the game. What's worse is they quit because the friends they played with who happened to be F2P's quit and migrated to another game. There is a good chance that there are similar stories happening like that to other players as well.
So if Cryptic can do it for the Lockboxes I think they can also do it for the past ships. This time a real one last chance for this ships. I think more people would be happy with this rather than some snobbish elitists who think they are the only people that matters on this game who will rage. And this time after the event give a Pop-Up warning to those who will buy this ships with event ships tied with them Cryptic.
i have yet to see cryptic bring back retired content to the game in the years sto has been active. i doubt you will ever see them again. the zephy shotgun is another reward that will likely never return either.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
