So, you pulled something without any warning, notification, or replacement? And you follow this up with an apology which occurs well after the aforementioned event? You state a replacement is in the works but give no further details.

It's deja vu Terror Dome all over again isn't it?

Honestly guys, this place can be pretty toxic and hostile towards the Dev team a lot of times.
Has any of you ever given any serious thought as to why this state of affairs is ongoing?

Probably not. Too busy snickering up your sleeves at all of us. "Hey guys! Watch this! I'm gonna start a sh**storm on the forums!

    APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!

n other words, most foundry players didn't take the daily to begin with, and it wasn't fair for people who knew about the daily to earn more rewards doing the same content as people who didn't know the daily even existed.

Really? It's unfair for players who MAKE USE of what was included in the game for years that other players either didn't bother to look (or the Dev team didn't bother to include much about the Foundry in ANY STO new player tutorial)? Come on, next you'll be saying it's 'unfair' that some players have better gear then other players...<--- that's about the same logic as what you've posted above. If no one really knew of, or made use of this mission, this thread wouldn't exist.

Further - you don't think asking for them to list the removal of a mission in patch notes; is valid feedback (complaining as you called it); or that letting them know it took a couple of weeks to get any official response to a valid question or is:

"Hey, there used to be a mission that was available on a daily basis, but now it's gone...is this a bug?" again is 'complaining and not a valid question to want a response for?

That was the impression I got from the dev.

Equipment is a whole different thing. When you reach level 50 you get a tutorial that says "HEY! Check out the reputation system and here is how it works". And players can see right away there is all kinds of gear they can obtain. But when it comes to the foundry there is no tutorial mission explaining how things work, much less pointing out there is a daily mission they can take. Players who don't know about the daily mission for an extra bonus are at a slight disadvantage compared to people familiar with the game.

I'm guessing what they are planning to do is make the foundry daily similar to the daily bonus reputation marks. Any qualifying content that gets you bonus marks is awarded to all players who participate in that content, with nobody having to find out later they could have earned extra marks if they only knew there was a daily mission they had to accept.

They are designing the system to reward everybody equally, so those who are unfamiliar with the ins and outs of the game won't miss out on any bonus compared to people who have been here for years.

I still don't see why people are so upset over missing out on an extra 960 dil. That's super easy to get just about anywhere in the game.

Took you more than 2 weeks to come up with this BS?
  • bones1970bones1970 Member Posts: 953 Arc User
So... You remove a bonus mission for an unspecified time, on the basis of a plan to make that bonus added into rewards automatically at some equally unspecified point in the future?

    Sounds like great timing management.

This is how Cryptic works... Why not leave it in place and when your ready, change it, like normal people would do ???

It's funny that people say there was no notification, yet I've been saying in Zone for 2 weeks that it was offline because the foundry was having work done on it's assets etc. I found out thru the forum.

Wait, so we are now somehow evolved from no news/denial to : "HA-HA, no foundry rewards for you!"
....and everything is OK again on God's green earth?

Why just not put Officer Reports back until the new system is "hastily" put back in place few months/years down the road?

    Bad Bad Form.

You guys compile release notes every week. So this just slipped your mind? I get that you're human, but you didn't forget to implement the change did you?

And it took more than a week to mention it here.

These stealth changes have occurred before which is why there's a lack of trust.

I don't understand the logic in removing the old version before implementing the new system especially when the new version is currently in development. This isn't like exploration where there was substantial game content that you wanted to streamline. It was a wrapper mission, there's nothing gained but a TRIBBLE storm for removing it without mentioning it.

Well I know now, I'll stop looking for it. I look forward to your revamped Foundry system.
    So, 2 main problems here:

    1) no communication. I know you already apologized for this, but my question is *why* did it take so long to get this extremely vague answer?

    2) you shouldn't *remove* content until your replacement is ready. You said you are still iterating a reward revamp, which is fine. But until that is actually ready, there is no reason to rip out what people already have in game.

    This.

All nonsense. They removed it because they do not like rewarding players. They removed in space freighters from the game which increases the cost of building Fleet Projects, all claimed to be an accident. They removed the Officer Daily reward that has been in the game for 5 years. I find it hard to believe that players did not know how to locate the same mission that have been playing for 1,825 days. That reads like a new employee excuse.

By removing the mission, they introduced a new nerf for dilithium farming. A growing trend in the game since the game went Free to Play. Like with Exploration missions, they removed them to slow the rate at which people could gain resources in the game for construction projects (a nerf).

If they were really sincere, they would turn that feature back on.

I just think its funny that they have a similar apology page over on Neverwinter for doing the same " we took this away but forgot to tell you" kinda thing.

I don't believe that they will add any replacement at all. Cryptic tend to remove content than add anything. This s why I very rarely log on

I don't really think it's about 960 dil. You can get that anywhere. It's about the principle of the issue. Cryptic seems to have this belief that removing content makes the game better.
They have already set a precedent in this case. Remember when they removed the exploration star clusters? They told us it was because those mission weren't up to the standards of where the game was heading, and I'll buy that (let's face it; they were really poor). But, let us not forget that the exploration star clusters were a holdover from when Cryptic threw this game together in nine months after Perpetual took CBS's money and ran.
That does not, however, excuse the fact that Cryptic also told us that they would be looking into replacements for said exploration missions.
That was well over a year ago, and still no exploration. At all.
The so-called "exploration revamp" was clearly abandoned with little to no intention of ever picking it up again. This in turn (rightly or wrongly) informs the playerbase that Cryptic can and will remove content from the game hoping that people will just forget about in time while they work on next season's lock box because that content makes money and is idiot simple to develop. After all, why actually work to make the game better when you can just churn out the next shiny and call it a day?
    Shiny garbage is still garbage.
So where does this rant get us? In Cryptic's mind (and I use that term loosely), they already have in place a precedent whereby they can justify removing any content they wish on the basis of "It's not good enough anymore." This is a very slippery slope. Already, all we do is buzz around the same area and rerun the same three STF's over and over again. Seriously, when was the last time you saw anyone que up for Vicious Cycle?
    Let me be clear:

--Removing content does not benefit the health of the game--

Now then, that being said, if someone shows me irrefutable proof that this removed content will be replaced, I will happily shut my trap and enjoy delicious crow. Until then, I remain steadfast in my conclusions.

I must agree - I've been curious about some of the Foundry missions, and wanted to try my hand at making the odd one myself. However, it seems that now, only the spotlight missions will carry any kind of reward (a significant one though - time based, but if you spend ~30 minutes at a spotlight mission each day, you'll get a good 3k dilithium ore). It makes me wonder if ANY of the non-spotlight Foundry content will get much review.

Or is Cryptic planning to basically dismiss the entire Foundry? I'll grant them, some of it's content is -extremely- poor.

As others here are saying, why pull something when the replacement is barely on the drawing board? This makes no sense and, frankly, it needs putting back until you actually have a plan.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.

Suggest': Close game and open it when all season has been made...

If we follow your logic, you need to close now the game and open when ALL content is released

... Seriously, you need to let this mission in the game, and all other PvE / mission you have deleted for a revamp, and delete it only if the mission is actually revamped and works and ready to go [Live]!

Ok I have to say this. WILL YOU ALL PLEASE STOP WITH ALL THE COMPLAINING!?!?!?! All of the B.S. over less then a grand in dil that is part of what usually ends up a half a_ss job of a foundry mission that does not make sense. When there are far far more easy ones already in game that make you a whole lot more dil and are way easier in the first place. I am sick and tired every time a dev makes a mistake or GOD forbid they spot an exploit be for YOU. And when they smash it every one loses there minds. Do you guys think or even know what goes into making a game like this run? With daily attacks on there severs, with people like that jackass in the U.K. that tries to shut down the servers over things that have no baring on his ability to play a game that is free. For the last year I have been seeing people cry and moan and pee themselves of when the T6 flagships will get here. And when they do get here what happens? Every self entitled whiny little twerp went off like a tween on Christmas day who didn't get the siri IPhone whatever!!!

Funny thing is, They made the Exact Same "Mistake", over in the Never Winter forums as well.
Seems a bit odd to take something out of the game and Forget to tell the players, till almost a month later.

    absolutely well put.

I like the foundary, often better stories than the arcs. It is an important reason to stay on for many like me I'm sure as it gives us something to do.

In other words, most foundry players didn't take the daily to begin with, and it wasn't fair for people who knew about the daily to earn more rewards doing the same content as people who didn't know the daily even existed.

For all we know, maybe the reason they removed the daily before the new reward system is in place is because of an exploit being used by some people. Of course I doubt they would talk about it if that were the case.
For me, the evidence points toward this being due to an exploit of some kind. This particular Dev rarely posts - and when he does it is usually in relation to explaining/apologising for changes made as a result of unintended player behaviour/exploits.

From my observations of the way Cryptic/PWE handles these matters over the years, this particular method (referred to by some others as 'stealth nerfs') generally happens for one of two reasons. Either 1) human error (ie: the person writing the patchnotes forgot/wasn't told to include it. This is no biggie as we are all human and all make minor goof ups now and again), or 2) to quietly close a perceived exploit.

Reading between the lines of Mr Grey's post, his careful choice of wording does not indicate human error (ie: they accidentally took it down too fast/forgot to mention it), but instead apologises for a lack of transparency, suggesting the method used to implement this change/failure to mention it in the patchnotes was intentional. This leads me to suspect it was closing an exploit.

I have no clue as to what this apparent exploit was, nor would I break the rules by posting it if I did. But if there was one, I think coming clean and saying they did it for that reason would be good practice, and welcomed by players - lots of people are grumbling about the rising Zen/Dil rate, and if this is partially due to people exploiting, folks would welcome such action.

EDIT: I personally have no strong opinions about this change - I'm just reflecting upon the manner it was implemented. I don't use the Foundy (except to occasionally torture myself by playing some of the most terrible missions my friends have been able to dredge up), and presume that whatever they replace IOR with will work reasonably well.

You should work for city street planning, with this attitude when people crash becuase they are going the wrong way down a one way you'd remove the one way instead of marking it better. Seems to me a good option woulda been hey look over here foundry has a daily. Also what about the ones who know about the daily but don't care to use it? are they also at a disadvantage? And really what/who caused this "disadvantage"? the players for knowing about it? or the devs for not making a tutorial for the foundry? Regardless of the answer could we also have not tied the daily it to auto pickup with a qualifying mission? or pop up atleast offering it? or would you as an employer remove healthcare from all employees becuase 3 or 4 refused it?
also btw you asked why get upset over 960 dil? well it appears to concern the dev team that those disadvantaged aren't earning extra dil too.

It's fascinating, Investigate Officer Reports was originally the wrapper mission that rewarded you, as the individual mission didn't actually grant any reward. Do any three foundry missions get I think it was originally 1440 dilithium. Then when people were exploiting it by making 3-5 minute Foundry missions that were basically the exploration cluster killed this set of three enemies missions without story or travel time, they made a minimum time frame, something like at least 15 minutes.

Now this was a while ago, but if memory serves, the original Officer reports was a daily. It was then felt that that limited the rewards and thus the amount of Foundry missions that someone could run per day. So, they reduced it so that Officer Reports had a half hour timer. Soon after, the actual Foundry missions were altered so that they individually rewarded their dilithium based on the length of the mission. This removal of the wrapper mission makes sense, especially if you were to increase the payout of the individual foundry missions at the same time, then Investigate Officer Reports simply becomes redundant.

Like Tau Dewa Patrol. Once each patrol rewards on its own, then Mivek's mission becomes superfluous.

Um no. This isn't about the 960 dilithium as has been said before. It's because they "neglected" to tell us. This isn't a dilithium issue it's a trust issue.

There's no need for them to just remove it and not mention it. I don't even mind that they removed it, but it's a pain in the TRIBBLE when I'm looking through my journal trying to find it thinking that I'm suffering a glitch in my system. No, Cryptic just stealth nerfed something I use regularly. It's their game and their development, in the end they can and will do as they please, all I ask is that when they alter something that I use regularly they give proper notice. And it would be easier to believe it was an error if this message was on the friday after instead of the week after. It would be easier to believe if they hadn't done it before.

It's the same thing when they stopped giving engineering reports. Giving us less information isn't helping anything.
