Do I lose the duty officers that I "contribute" to a fleet project?

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
Or do these officers return upon completion of the project? I really don't understand the system.

    You lose them. Think of it as a permanent reassignment.

    I think of it as escorting them to the airlock without an EV suit myself

    There's massively repeatable quests to get more Doffs at your faction's academy (and Romulans can double dip for streams of new Doffs). After a while you'll just keep the green-and-better Doffs and ship the white ones off to your fleet's happy farm/forced labor camps as fast as you get them. Eventually your crew will be so well tuned you'll even start downgrading green Doffs to bunches of white Doffs so you can kick them off the ship productively.
