Anybody Know Why There Has Been No News Updates Since Friday 1/30?

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
Just wondering what's going on. I also didn't get my lifetime membership zen, which is also strange. This forum is my main source of STO information, I hope someone can fill me in. Thanks.

    psst, that was Saturday not Friday. The Saturday giveaway included Sunday so it's only been a little over one day (Monday) with no new news.

    Not every day is packed with exciting news.

    There hasn't been a new announcement since the x3 Tier 4 ship one to my knowledge.

    It's as if their comms are out, perhaps they got hit by a photon torpedo with shields down and are floating helplessly.

    Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.

    Or Trendy hit the Romulan Ale a little too hard after having to wade through all the whining about the free stuff not being good enough. People demanding an apology because the 3 free T4 ships were the final giveaway instead of something more being offered Sunday. People whining because they only had 2 days to level up alts in an alt account to claim the ships. : SIGH :

    If it was a non-profit corporation, I could see why avoiding the "whining" would be warranted. As a for-profit company with duties to its customers, however- I think the lack of communication will be detrimental to its profits.

    Anyway, not going to get into this debate yet again- the horse has been flogged enough, and time will tell which side of the fence this will lean towards, all speculation aside.

    Things have definitely been more quiet than usual, lately. That doesn't mean the sky is falling, but it probably means "something". I'm guessing some big announcement is in the works.

    In my experience a lack of outward communication usually means a lot of thinking/planning/doing is taking place instead.
    Not a bad thing in the short term (in my opinion).

    Hmm... last week, we had:
    • The 6th Anniversary post from Ricossa
    • The new FE
    • The FE's rewards
    • The return of the Omega mini-game
    • The new lockbox
    • 4 ship announcements
    • The master key sale
    • The five/six-day giveaway

    It should be no surprise that this week is quiet. Not every week is full of news, or free stuff. Relax, everything is fine.

    I think it more has to do with the massive amount of stuff released last week.

    That being said... it's always wise to keep an eye on Tribble, and watch for new features (or, even, a new code branch).

    I would also point out that the universal console on the anniversary ship could be a harbinger to a pending ship pack release in a few weeks... like the Samsar was last year.

    Though you were clearly trying to be witty, it's little more than a music reference (and by no means intentionally melodramatic), since one of my favourite bands is called My Ruin... I've been a fan of the singer since they were leading Tura Satana back in the 90's...​​

    well tbh The consistent silence for the past well months since Delta rising until RIGHT BEFORE a features launch has made me well less excited and less willing to grind this game. I know that all the people who get up in arms when something doesn't come out when it was speculated or hinted out as a possibility to come out. Then attack the devs for lying when they have clearly stated that it could get delayed or plans could change. Sorry but those people have made it worse for those of us who like to look forward to things, even if they never come to be or are delayed, it's just nice to know that planning is indeed happening and not just a show good words of investment in the game.

    I know it's damned if they do damn if they don't situation, but it just irks me when People complain about things that come up. It's game development nothing is final. Not even the content that is already apart of the game. If it weren't for them I could at least have something to speculate on or be hopeful for. Currently the only thing I KNOW is coming is, more featured episode while these are great they don't excite me as much as systems. The only system i know is coming at some point is new specializations and revamp of skill system. Who know what happened to the idea of cruiser com array items or escort targeting computers or update to crafting allowing for the picking of mods..

    Seriously if you know what system features are 100% coming or even possibly in the future I'd love to hear them...

    Everything is heading this way though... Anyone who's ever worked customer service for a business would have surely encountered this attitude (do what I want, or you'll lose all your customers coz, reasons) more than they care to remember...

    Hell, even schools in the US are heading this way, if they don't submit to the 'feelings' of their supposedly oppressed minorities and special interest groups, 'it'll cost them'...

    Not surprised it's the usual stick used against Cryptic, when there's no rational reason for a particular request (demand usually), just threaten that all their customers will close their accounts (even if entirely baseless)...​​

    I agree with that. There's a reason the demand for leaks is so high and supplied since forever. But that's not new, ever since PWE took over (well before DR) the communication between devs/Cryptic/PWE and the players has been reduced to premade PR-speech segment and advertising blogs and only 48 hours before the event/release.

    But as you said, most of the times the threat is baseless and usually nothing happens at all. Because the customers want the service/the game - they don't really have alternatives that wouldn't cost them more effort than just rolling over. It's the same with STO - forum experts are certain this game and the company is doomed since shortly after it launched. So we're in year six of certain doom pig-2.gif​​

    Yeah, everyone kinda needs to chill. This time of year is usually quiet, 'cause there's back-to-back events that both span a month-plus. They're not going to release much at all except for those events. Basically, it's like a 2 month window of opportunity for all the teams to get things ready for the new year.

    Also, anyone who says STO is somehow lacking in communication with it's players... y'all need to go seek out other games and see how bad it can be. There are a ton of community-based games were the company is barely heard from, let alone ever responsive to the players. STO is in a good club of games with regular news and active personnel in the forums and community at large.
