Federation Alliance??

I wonder why Federation don't have the ability to choose ally since Romulan and Klingon only able to choose ally? I tried to find ally discussion and seem I can't find. Is it either people have no problem with it or no one asked about it? If Federation do have ability to choose ally then how come it didn't show up when I first join? Either they did or I forgot? If I forgot, then the ally I choose should've show their ships to buy at shipyard but they aren't. I only have one character and I decided not to play more than one character because it's not worth my time and also to buy zens for each character.

Sorry if this is not understandable, please pardon me for being not good at grammar. I didn't say "waste money" before word "zen" in the sentence. =]

The Alliance system was introduced in the first Expansion, Legacy of Romulus, as a way for Romulan players to gain access to lots of non-Romulan ships so the devs didn't have to design a whole new fleet for them. Fed and KDF players don't need the Alliance system because they already have lots of ships to choose from.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

True but what about battle cloak. Federation ships with cloak devices are not able to cloak while in combat. ON DS9 tv show, Defiant able to cloak while in battle (of course get damage when shield disabled - but they should've allow that in game play). With Defiant cloak device - so they could plant on all ships since ALL Klingon and Romulan have them all even shuttles. Make sense? Romulan did allied with Defiant so they should be able to ally in game play too.

The Alliance System was essentially a shortcut by Cryptic to get the Roms in earlier, IMO.

The Alliance System as psycoticvulcan said, was introduced with LOR which was Summer 2013. It mainly affected the Romulans because if we want to get technical, they're not quite a full faction while the KDF & Feds are.

The KDF & Feds have a fully independent selection of ships. The KDF have fewer ships than the Feds but still more than the Roms.

In addition are the art assets. Feds & KDF had their own artwork and models for facilities, especially Starbases. The Roms still don't. Even ship interiors with more options for KDF & Feds while Roms have only 2 interiors, Romulan and Scimitar/Reman, albeit the Rom interior is fabulously well done and the best in the game, IMO.

When there was more PVP going on in this game, the Alliance System caused a lot of hell, IMO, and greatly blurred the lines of Feds vs Klingons. Back then, there was a far more intense rivalry between predominantly KDF and Fed players. There were clearer, more passionate loyalties to the factions. You then had Warbirds operating on both sides because the RRW subfaction had to choose an alliance early on. You then had a bunch of battlecloaking ships on both sides and the identity of the factions started to fade. Warbirds were markedly, completely OP in 2013. Fed & KDF gameplay had caught up some in power creep since LOR but the raw offensive power and cloak advantages of Warbirds and the Rom subfaction is still a major advantage.

Even back in 2013 with LOR's release, I really did wish the Roms were a truly independent faction to stand on their own. I really despised the Alliance system since it subjected the Romulans to the Federation and Klingon Empires. I know I was not alone on this even back in '13.

I forgot to add, Federations does have mask signature but only in short time. Cloak don't. Cloak is for when hull health is low. good idea to use it so hull can get heal then back to combat. =]

I take it you're meaning Cloaks and not the SCI BOFF ability, "Mask Energy Signature" which anyone can use? Look in Star Trek and remember that Cloaks were not a core feature of Starfleet in the entirety of the franchise and runs counter to the theme of the organization and the Federation. Gene Rodenberry's "White Knights" did not go skulking around in the shadows and you saw Starfleet coming a mile away with those bright light grey, white colored ships. When Starfleet came for you, you knew.

Also, the only cloak type that allows you to use repair abilities are Enhanced Battle Cloaks. The only ships with that capability are: KDF B'Rel BOPs (T5, T6), Rom T'Varo (T5, T6), Rom Faeht (T6). EBC capability is an extremely rare benefit. Standard and Battle Cloak does not allow the use of repair abilities. You can "regenerate" hull when out of combat but that takes time when there's combat going on.

You can't close the thread on your own. Just let it go. Knowing the community the thread may very well take a life on its own :)
