I decided to start a new Romulan toon. Put a purple mk II hyper impulse engine and 3 points in driver coils and OMG ? Its been close to 10 mins to travel halfway from the Romulan Flotilla to the Helix mission. I have 105 in engine power subsystem.
Am i doing something wrong here or is this a oversight on the Dev's part and the travel speed of a lower levelled toon with the sector map enlargement ?

At low levels, your destinations usually won't be all that far away from each other.
Good thing is that this leveling goes fast. In other games you have a veteran feature, you can skip the starting levels. Something we had with KDF when those started at level 20.
20-50k is still pocket change for anyone who plays this game even semi-regularly. Hell, it's nothing to me and I never play more than a week or two at a time before leaving for months.

yep, indeed this is really boring, and when you leave the flotilla, you appear near the sol system, so you have a long long long travel to do for reaching again the romulan area.
I did the exact same thing on Friday, decided to remake a Romulan liberated borg. I'd forgotten how Sloooooooooooow sector travel is at the lower levels. In fact I fell asleep during one trek last night!
Oh by the way, love that little cutie in your sig pic!
I only ask because you mention your purple mk II hyper impulse engine but didn't say about your warp core.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
(And no, doffing isn't the answer. At low level, there's almost none to do. And when you talk to your department heads - which is where I do most of my doffing - you stop moving.)
It is not a drag in the slightest, merely a few minutes to wait, giving you a break, a chance to drink, smoke or whatever. My point is, you don't spend that much time at low levels for it to be even considered an issue. With-in a week you're at 9.97 on a level 30+ toon. This is a case of instant-gratification being impatient!
This'll probably sound weird and granted, I find it slightly annoying every now and then, but for the most part, I consider it a feature.
Space is supposed to be huge and it's supposed to take time to cross the void
say it takes 5 mins to travel from one system to another to start a mission. Thats 5 mins of actual playing time that could be spent proactively playing and completing that mission instead its 5 mins of my play time wasted
