Earlier today, our executive producer Steve Ricossa(aka Salami Inferno) held an AMA(ask me anything) on reddit. Here are all of his comments for anyone interested:

The AMA was a lot of fun to follow yesterday, but there was nothing super revealing or landmark in terms of new information. There was the usual commentary and praise for the good stuff, with the usual ‘why can’t I have…‘ lines, plus some fun banter between STO staff members. Giraffes were scandalized. We found out his personal favorite game is Call of Duty. He knows how to make sausage (Wild Boar Bratwurst) And his nickname came from his youth (but no details – begin the wild speculation).
Not all questions were answered, due to the volume and time available. I know I appreciated all of his responses, and was thankful he took the time to respond to my question.
And I’ve done my best NOT to read too much between the lines.
Interesting tidbits I came away with:
I’ve done my best to organize like-themed questions and answers. I have not edited Salami’s responses. Questions have been edited to reduce space. If I have taken something out of context, please correct me in the comments below.

"Scrapped" is such a strong word, that really shocked me. I thought it had been pulled and was under review or being evaluated.
Honestly I find the removal of content like this quite unfair.
One significant question was painfully missing: why AMA at reddit and not on the STO forum?
Borticus talks about specs, and commando, at around 0:46:45 in this interview http://priorityonepodcast.com/po247/

Fudge the forums. I hate how they turn their nose here. But i guess the reason is because the malcontents and foaming at the mouth rabid players, haters, trollers, flamers chase them away making it a hostile environment.
Doing something like that on the forums would be a nightmare of spam and troll posts. Reddit is perfect for it because the users can skip the junk posted by others.
No, we have mods who handle that kind of thing. The reason they do things like this is NOT because the official forums can't handle it, but because they like to promote STO on various media sites. @pwlaughingtrendy has said this before.

Hmm... Well that's disappointing. Maybe one day.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
Even doing screened questions, they aren't saying anything at all, and don't much need to either, didn't all the complainers quit with all the Delta Rising nerfs anyway?
Whoever is still around certainly will stay no matter what, no point in these shenanigans
When I saw that mention, I immediately thought of you. Seems like you've been vocal enough to get some attention.
As for some of the other points, a possibility of melee weps animations being redone sometime end 2016 is about as close to never as we can officially get. It doesn't bode well for Mekleths, etc.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
Is that attitude the cause or the effect? Something to think about.
Rivalry between reddit and STO aside, in my opinion it reflects poorly on the developer to do these interactions outside their own forum.
Edit: quoted wrong post so corrected the quote.
My major guess would be the format of things. The forums here, being forums with a linear conversation flow, aren't well suited at all for an AMA. Reddit's conversation threads are. It's one of the reasons Reddit has a huge few AMA subreddits.

Question: Will event awards such as the current Mirror Invasion gun be made account wide unlocks like the event ships?
His answer: There are no plans for that right now, but that could change.
I take it to mean they are at least considering it.
It probably will happen at some point. Ever since he said on the forums that our special event ships were being made account-wide unlocks people have been requesting the various items and doffs from other special events to also be made account-wide. The special items that come from the Crystalline Entity and mirror universe event were all obtained through event reputation projects so the system can track what we actually earned in the past, like our event ships. So it shouldn't be that difficult to pull off. I'm expecting it to happen eventually.
Edit: Also in that post he said "Yep!" to another question that user had in regards to if the featured episode rerun will ever come back. I'm looking forward to that because I have delta recruits and others that I want the shard of possibilities, cane, and breen/reman boffs for.
More tidbits:
Nothing concrete about bringing back Memory Alpha, but apparently a lot of devs want it back.
Q: How likely is it to get a T6 Nova?
A: It's possible.
So yeah, not a confirmation at all. It probably will come eventually though. Never give up hope. It is something I would like myself because it's a cute little ship. I actually have a T5 Fleet Nova but haven't gotten around to ever using it once LOL.
The Omega Fed carrier is coming "sooner than you think".

And here he implies heavily a T6 Nova is coming.

OOOOOOH!
Question: Will we see a greater diversity in the types of ships added in the future, namely with an increasing presence of science vessels?
Answer: Yes, you will see a larger variety of ships over the coming year.
This could mean more science ships for Romulans and KDF after all.
@ddesjardins posted above "*No additional lifetime perks after 1000 days."
This is misleading.

Question: related gold users, there is a plan to keep the reward incoming (1100 days, and go on)?
Answer: 1,000 is the max we're planning to hit.
What Steve Ricossa meant is that 1,000 days will be the max required for any veteran rewards. It doesn't mean they aren't going to add any new rewards later. Just wanted to clarify that.

A big hint that stuff from the upcoming new Star Trek TV series will make it into the game.

*sigh* This one breaks my spirit a little.
The question was basically about hangar pets getting nerfed with Delta Rising and how much the AI sucks (such as pets not responding to commands very well).
His answer: I'm a huge carrier player, so pet AI is something near and dear to me. This is something that's always being iterated on in small ways, so hopefully you see positive improvements as releases make it to the community.
In other words, the head honcho loves carriers but there is no certainty of ever getting hangar pets fixed. It's just a standard "never-say-never" type of response. This isn't very reassuring. My elite Yellowstone Runabouts on my T6 Gal-X are stupid in the mirror universe event, always going off to the other side of the friggen starbase instead of staying with me. As well as having trouble keeping up when I'm flying across the map, even when I'm just at full throttle and not full impulse. Separated saucers are extremely slow moving and keep up with my ship even worse than hangar pets, and they don't seem to attack very often, as well as pets, saucers, and other similar stuff (like the Aquarius launched from Odyssey ships) dying too easily.

Q: 2) KDF/Rom T6 science love pls?
A: A bunch of answers down there about this. One day!
So another hint that more KDF/Rom science ships are coming eventually.
Also he indicates here they have plans to get players back into the PvE queues. That's a good sign, as long as whatever they do works.

SaliInferno: The Skant will see the light of day someday!
Oooooh!
Cryptic doing "community" events outside the forums is a way to reach out to more of the community and to expand the community than just using the forums. And pretty much every time something like this happens, it will also be referred to in the forums, so you will probably never actually miss anything.
Now, you can feel free to think that the forums are special and anyone outside it is not worth being talked to, but I think Cryptic will never agree with you.
And AMAs really seem a Reddit thing. Probably because of the special thread structure they have there, where you can spawn basically entirely threads from individual posts. So the Question and the Answer will be always immediately next to each other, an a follow-up discussion can happen there, but if you're ont interested, you can just go to the next question. This format has its advantages for the AMA thingies, but I find it terrible for other types of forum conversations.
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
The "promoting on other communities" angle could have flown IF the development team ever bothered to do similar direct interactions with the community HERE as well. However, the official forum frequently seems to be the last place where any interaction takes place.
Even a simple forum tool such as the development tracker has not been added/fixed yet.
Overall it is a matter of priorities and i feel the development team prioritizes other forums/media over their own forum which IMO reflects poorly on them.
I agree however that we really need that frigging Dev Tracker. It was a great loss of the new forums. Why even bother with new forum software if one of the most useful features is simply missing.
I believe the phrase "wishful thinking" applies.
Post on reddit and it will reach the official forum as well while posting on the official forum will not reach reddit? Are you serious?

I miss the days of Dan Stahl, sure 50% plus was always wishful thinking that he put out, but at least he was all over the forums and site itself and hell even in the game.
I get the reason for it, but at the same time, they should find a way to be here more too, in any capacity. Minus Geko until he apologizes for what he said in the test forums awhile back, people that were around for that know what I am talking about.
Sure our forums can be pretty snotty, but its a 2 way street as proven.

I really do hope they start doing FE reruns and making items account-unlocks. That's about the only thing that will get me to spend more time in this game rather than in others with friendlier account-sharing between alts.
