So without knowing what the show will be about. Who would you like to see kick it off with a Cameo appearance?

If it could set a tone for the series similar to DS9 (a good, balanced blend of realism and optimism without too many extremes in either direction), I would opt for Avery Brooks.

    Well, depending on how they do it, we're either going to get someone from Enterprise or someone from Voyager, I'm guessing. That's if they hold true to tradition;
TNG; McCoy from TOS was in the "Encounter At Farpoint"
DS9; Picard from TNG was in "Emissary" (Not counting O'Brian, who was moving to DS9)
VOY; Both Quark and Odo from DS9 were in "Caretaker"
ENT; grey-area'd it; Zephram Cochrane from "First Contact" was in "Broken Bow".
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

I hope it is still set in the same universe, some time after voyager. But I wouldn't mind seeing an Admiral Picard. The show should be able to stand on it's own though. Like The Next generation, first episode had a cameo of DeForest kelley, but still stood on it's own. Still a great scene when Data is escorting him about the ship.
I also hope it goes back to being what Trek is about and not what the films are about.

Oh yeah, it HAS to have Jeffrey Combs in it in some capacity!

John de Lancie. Just have him appear as a perfectly ordinary Starfleet officer, going about his duties, then have him turn and smirk knowingly at the camera while none of the other characters are looking. No explainations, no further development; just that. B)

Haha, that would actually be kind of funny: Q trying out a new adventure--ordinary life! ;)

I feel like Zachary Quinto or Karl Urban should have been an option. I wouldn't have chosen either, of course, but still. I picked Avery Brooks because DS9 gets too little love, Sisko is underappreciated and underdepicted(?), he's got a great voice, and I hope the new show takes after DS9 in style and tone.

I'd like no one. I'd like this show to be a brand new entity without relying too much on what's gone on before

But this would only be a cameo, and would have anything to do with the series as a whole. Just a quick nod to the fans, and off you go.

Having a member of the last series kick off the new show was a quirk of the last regime. Why do things exactly like they did? Do things differently....create your own quirks.

Other -> Either no one at all, or Data. But not played by Brent Spiner, a new actor with the appropriate makeup. So we know Data is still around.

Data could be an interesting recurring character for the entire franchise - someone that doesn't age and can watch the history of the new Enterprises unfold - be it up close or from far away.

I voted Brookes, since it seems since TNG that last show cast member shows in Pilot, McCoy in "Encounter at Farpoint", and Picard in "Emissary", and Quark in "Caretaker".

Which seems to make my vote misplaced, since Voyager ended after DS9 did, logic dictates that Janeway or someone else from Voyager show up in the new shows Pilot, if it airs.

A bunch of mediocre TRIBBLE sandwiched between cameo appearances of what people used to like about Star Trek is what killed Enterprise, not to mention the entire franchise.

Don't wish for the cancerous formula that Brannon Braga and Rick Berman fed the franchise ~15 years ago.

    Wish for something original.

JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

What killed Enterprise was the notable lack of a Q.

Not just John DeLancie's Q per se, but also there was a general lack of superior/ transcendent beings testing/toying with the NX-01, despite humans being a novelty in the galaxy. In TOS we had the Metrons, Excalibans, Trelane, etc., but in Enterprise the most we had was a not-quite encounter with the Organians--they were examining humans but the humans never found out about it.

maybe they didn't want to keep going to the same well as every other series

    Guilty as charged.

Cameos are not the problem, they're a symptom of a problem. Pandering is okay is small doses, but when you start making a programming strategy around it, you have nothing.

If John DeLanicie is not available, there's always Keegan DeLancie who played Q jnr in Voyager

Humans were just a bunch of primitive nobodies then. Except for the Romulans who DID fully realize the extent of the future threat to their expansion plans, no one else believed in their future, so they probably didn't merit the attention. Even the Organians were just testing them as one of many subjects ("even" the Cardassians were a far bigger concern back then than humanit).

Depends on the era it's set in for there to be a cameo as DS-9 and Voyager pulled, so I'd say 'other'... Definitely not Shatner though, I can't stand the TRIBBLE... I'd rather it were Stephen Collins than Shatner... >_<
