Friendship Spam

captainkeatzcaptainkeatz Member Posts: 92 Arc User
Newest Gold/EC Spam scheme seems to include spamming friendship requests along with /tells, probably to circumvent chat restrictions. Could you guys change it, so accounts in n00b standing can't actually whisper anyone unless the friendship is accepted? Alternatively, give us a toggle to block friendship requests altogether, similar to the block against fleet invites.

Thanks for your time.

Go to your character's privacy settings. The options you want are there.

Unfortunately, I found out that even changing to Anonymous and preventing tells, does not stop the Friendship Request Spam. While the tells do get stopped, it does not stop the Friendship Request Spam and the resulting ingame email from the Gold Sellers.

Not true. You can set your privacy settings so only friend/fleet can send mail, too.

Than please explain the emails I received yesterday from gold sellers.

Re-check your settings. I have mine set to "Visible to friends only" and everything checked to friends/fleet and never hear a peep out of gold-spammers. Not in PM or mail. PM and mail are seperate settings.

As for friend requests, you have to /ignore them to stop those, though, I've never been spammed with one anywhere in the game. It would be nice to have a setting to turn those off, though.

It's also possible that very large popular channels are having their memberlist info being accessed and being used as one giant name address book due to a currently still unfixed exploit.

I did have mine set to "Visible to friends only" and was set to Anonymous. I created a new character today and noticed something interesting. On the list of characters in my area, there was a blank space where a character's name should be; though when I hovered the cursor over the blank space, name@handle showed up. I right-clicked and there was the option to send a private tell and send friendship request.

Ignoring the friendship requests work after the fact. If visible to friends only and anonymous are active, those should not be getting through anyway.

Keep in mind privacy settings are per character. You'll need to set yourself to invisible and only allow challenges from fleet/friends, and so on, for each character on your account. They really need to make privacy settings a single account-wide feature.

I've also seen rumors that if you're sent a friend request, the person sending it can send you a private message, and possibly mail, until you decline their request. I'm not sure if it's true but I've seen a lot of people mention it in game and on the forums in the 3+ years I've been playing this game.
